Not Worth the List Price
Can boost some weak FM stations. Easy to install. Looks cool.
No help with AM at all. No better than simple Dipole FM antenna unless you tweak using the "Pin Dot" system. Overpriced.
Posted Mar 14, 2006 - I managed to get a new one of these for $11.00 on EBay. I'm so glad that I did not pay the $59.00 list price (Circuit City) that the unit typically sells for. I have a good tuner (Yamaha TX 950) which has a nice signal strength meter, and dual antenna inputs. I was able to do a direct comparrison with this Terk unit and a simple Dipole antenna that I bought from Radio Shack for $5.00. On the hands-off Wideband mode for FM the $5.00 dipole beat the Terk on every station. The only way to make the Terk beat the Dipole was to crank up the gain, and use the frequency selector to boost a specific frequency. This feature did prove useful for some very weak stations, and helped me justify the $11.00 I paid for the Terk. The Terk is absolutely worthless with AM. In fact, I could not pick up any AM stations with the Terk (including local stations). I hooked up the simple loop antenna that came with the tuner, and it does 110% better than the Terk. I wouldn't recommend spending more than $15 for one of these. You will probably be better off with the $5.00 dipole antenna from Radio Shack. I plan to put a FM antenna in my attic, which is what I should have done from the start. You will probably see my used Terk on EBay soon.
