5 Star Review Terk HDTVa - Awesome Reception

Strengths:

Quick setup; Point it in the direction of your broadcast towers and you're ready to go, no adjusting;

Weaknesses:

A little better design with the base would be nice; The antenna wire tucks in underneath and it's not that secure; Not sure how much the amplifier helps; It does a tremendous job without it.

Posted Mar 10, 2007 - I live in North Chili, NY, approximately 10.5 miles from the broadcast towers at Cobbs Hill, Rochester, NY. I am a Directv customer and have this antenna connected to my Zenith HD-SAT520 high def receiver. This receiver is able to integrate over the air signals with its existing Directv channel line-up and that really makes things easy. Let me start by saying that this antenna works flawlessly. Before purchasing the Terk HDTVa, I was using a nice set of rabbit ears. The rabbit ears did an okay job, but I found myself constantly having to adjust the positioning. The rabbit ears also had a problem pulling in a couple of the HD stations when the weather conditions were less than perfect. (That never happens in Rochester, NY does it? Ha!) Anyway, those days are long gone. I hooked this Terk up, pointed it towards the location of the towers and that was all she wrote. I am amazed by the signal strength and picture quality this little guy is able to produce. I have never had to reposition it. Once it "locks in," there is nothing to worry about. Every station comes in crystal clear and it doesn't matter what the weather is like. I highly recommend this antenna. Hope this review helps someone.

5 Star Review Wonderful!

Strengths:

Able to get stations not previously available

Weaknesses:

Takes up alot of room if rabbit ears are extended, not real stable

Posted 1 year ago - I love this antenna. I've tried several others, but this one blows them away. I get more channels, clearer, and it's easier to set up. I don't even have the rabbit ears extended. It works great without them. It looks nice on the table or shelf, too.

5 Star Review Terk HDTVA amplified HDTV antenna

Strengths:

Weaknesses:

Posted Jan 8, 2006 - I tried three different models of RCA antennas and one Jessens. RCA 301 captured 7 stations. Other RCA were bad. Jessen captured 8 stations. Terk HDTVA captured 22 stations. I like this.

5 Star Review Good Reception, Poor Amplification

Strengths:

Very good reception, Decently priced

Weaknesses:

Amplification doesn't seem to improve reception, Fixed cable

Posted Feb 25, 2006 - This is definitely the best antenna that I've tried and owned. I've tried about four now, and most of the others were from Radio Shack. After getting a new HDTV, I wanted to watch programs over the air, because I didn't want to pay for cable shows that I wouldn't watch. I went from having bad analong reception to having a decent digital reception. This is a completely day and night difference, the analog reception was fuzzy and grainy, and we never for a clean signal. With digital reception, you either get it or you don't, there is no grey area. And if you get it, it's crystal clear, better than cable. Luckily, we live in Brooklyn, so I live just 5 miles away from all the broadcasting towers in Manhattan, and we get all the channels with this antenna. With my old $30 antenna from radio shack, I would only be able to get 3/4 of the channels (missing were FOX and CBS). Now, with this antenna, I get them all! I'm minorly disappointed in two ways: 1) poor amplification, doesn't seem to work 2) fixed cable, I wanted to use my monster cable with gold connectors but couldn't. These are minor issues, but overall I'm pleased to have crystal clear reception for free.

4 Star Review TREK HTDVa Indoor HDTV antenna

Strengths:

Greate reception. Powered antenna

Weaknesses:

Base Not Stable

Posted Nov 17, 2005 - It gets great reception. I first tried the Zenith antenna which gets wonderful reviews, but only got about 70% signal on most of HDTV channels. Then I bought this antenna thinking giving it a try and found it produces much better results than Zenith. Almost all channels are above 90%. The only complain I have is that the base is too light. The whole thing is top heavy and it very easily gets tipped over.

4 Star Review TERK HDTVA INDOOR HDTV ANTENNA

Strengths:

Great reception

Weaknesses:

Ugly

Posted Jan 30, 2006 - I have had this antenna for about a week. When I first bought my TV, I also bought a Philips antenna. I only received two stations on it. I then went out and bought this antenna and what a difference. Per the www.antennaweb.org website, I needed a BLUE antenna to reach the channels I needed. The farthest channel I can get is about 52 miles away at approximately 60% signal. Don't let that scare you as that is still a clear picture. I recommend this to anyone (If you can get over the ugliness of it.) :-)

4 Star Review Terkish Delight

Strengths:

Easy to install; good; much better reception than the unamplified antenna that we were previously using.

Weaknesses:

Dipoles are very long

Posted Nov 11, 2005 - Very fast service; I received the package the day after it was ordered. Set-up was very simple: just put everything together. i was immediately very impressed by the quality of reception of several channels. However, the antenna is directional; you will probably have to change the orientation for each channel that you select.

4 Star Review Terk HDTV antenna.

Strengths:

Easy to install. Good at catching HDTV signal in the area. With the amplifier, my TV was able to catch HDTV signals from ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS and UPN.

Weaknesses:

The cable come with the antenna is too short. Therefore, it is difficult for me to regulate the wires behind the TV stand. The signals received for ordinary channels are not impressive.

Posted Feb 21, 2006 - Overall, it is a great buy for HDTV owners. With modest spending on this item, they will be able to enjoy the clear pictures of HD without paying cable or satelite providers.

4 Star Review Works pretty well

Strengths:

pays for itself in 4 months - better signal than I was paying Timewarner 12.99 a month for.

Weaknesses:

none - however it is very directional, ie must be pointed at the tower producing the signal.

Posted Jan 22, 2006 - I tried the Terk tv5 and it worked pretty well - however I had to rotate it a bit which I found annoying. I purchased this one because all of my HD signals are within 10 miles and all located in the same location - this is very directional. I would highly recomend that you purchase the TV5 if you expect to pick up signals in more than 1 direction. Go to antennaweb.org and type in your address - it tells you exactly where the signals are comming from. I highly recomend both - my brother in law had better results with the Terk TV5 than this, he lives 15 miles in a different direction.

3 Star Review Terk HDTVa Indoor VERSUS Terk HDTV Slim ProfileAntenna

Strengths:

Easy to install, able to pick up a few extra channels.

Weaknesses:

Not great looking, dipoles are too long, directional (must point to a tower)

Posted Mar 5, 2006 - I live in Sunnyside/Glen Park in San Francisco. Terk HDTVa Indoor is better than my rabbit ear antenna. I was able to pick up approximately 12 channels. I went and replaced the Terk Indoors with the Terk HDTV Slim Profile Antenna (box looking antenna) today. I was able to pick up 29 channels. I have not installed it on the roof yet due to a storm. However, I can imagine I can pick up more and sharper channels with no interference. The outdoor antenna was $100 more than the indoor antenna, however it's worth it for the extra channels. You can try to find it on the internet for about $90 + S/H. I highly recommend the outdoors antenna, even if you have to climb to the attic or roof.

2 Star Review Nothing Special

Strengths:

A bit clearer reception on only one channel

Weaknesses:

Turning on the amplifier bosterdoes nothing. Larger and uglier than most antennas.

Posted Feb 24, 2006 - I bought a $3.99 butterfly antenna at radio shack because and I find that the Butterfly one seems to work the bestin my area. I am in a small city about 25 miles alway from a major city and near mountains, so the broadcasts are from further away. The Terk antenna did get one channel better on HDTV. Otherwise mostof the non HDTV regular UHF and VHF suffered. I do not have cable so I totally rely on the broadcast signals. For this reason this antenna is not that good for me. I guess if you have cable or a dish, then as an extra antenna just for HDTV the terk could be useful. Still then get the cheaper terk model or the Zienith one without the amplifier because the amplifier in the terk seems to do nothing at all. When I turn on the amplifier switch I see no change or improvement. I have had other amplified antennas and when I would turn the switch on on those older ones, there would always be a noticle change (sometimes for the better sometimes for the worse). On my older RCA amplified model there a dial to adjust the amplification which helped a lot. There is no dial on the terk. So for me the non-amplified cheapest butterfly style antenna seems to work the best. So I am dissapointed over all and also this Terk antenna is very large and ugly

2 Star Review TERK HDTVA INDOOR HDTV ANTENNA

Strengths:

LOOKS PRETTY

Weaknesses:

WEAK SIGNAL

Posted Dec 18, 2005 - I RECEIVED THIS PRODUCT FROM THE COMPANY AND THEIR PACKING IS VERY GOOD. HOWEVER, THE TERK HDTVA INDOOR HDTV ANTENNA IS NOT THAT GREAT AS WHAT THEY ARE CLAIMING. I ONLY RECEIVED A FEW CHANNEL AND ACTUALLY CHANNEL 13 IS CLEAR ENOUGH BUT THE OTHER CHANNEL LIKE CHANNEL 11 AND CHANNEL 2 IS FUZZY. I TRY TO FINE TUNE FROM THE TV SET AND STILL DID NOT IMPROVED. SO, IF IS FOR THE LOOK OF THE ANTENNA THEN THIS IS A GREAT LOOKING ANTENNA, BUT IF IS THE QUALITY OF RECEPTION THEN I THINK YOU SHOULD LOOK FOR ANOTHER ONE.

Strengths:

Weaknesses:

Posted Oct 9, 2006 - This antenna is a piece of crap! the only channels I received in HD were the spanish channels and I don't even speak spanish...I re-connected my old non HD antenna and got back some english speaking channels...the antenna is inexpensive but still it isn't worth your money.

1 Star Review Terk Indoor HDTV Antenna

Strengths:

None whatsoever except looks

Weaknesses:

Everything - Does not balance well, very direction oriented, occupies a lot of space (LxWxH), appearance of ghosts etc

Posted May 8, 2008 - My old set of rabbit ears purchased for $7.97 five years ago works much better and catches more channels. This is a complete waste of money. First of all it is very hard to balance with the cord, dipoles extended and main antenna installed. The few channels I got was very direction oriented. Had to face the broadcast towers. If you move then you lose other channels. Needs a electric power source constantly. Amplifier does nothing. However I aligned the antenna almost all channels had ghosts. After two days, I donated the antenna and went back to my good old rabbit ears. Would never recommend at all.
