Posted Oct 6, 2007 - After trying several security programs I finally settled down on McAfee. The installation is easy all it's features works well.It is vista compatible Works great for Vista.This product can be customized completely. It can be set to find and install updates automatically.I'm very pleased with the thoroughness of the protection it offers and the customization capabilities. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone whose system meets its minimum requirements.

Strengths:

3 computer install, inexpensive, effective

Weaknesses:

Slows down computer

Posted Jan 30, 2008 - This software is ideal for a small office or a multi-computer home, where you can buy this one piece of software to secure your entire network. It is also easy to use, and seems reasonably effective. While it does slow down the computer a bit, it is a small price to pay to ensure security.

3 Star Review Gobbles up a lot of memory and processor resources

Strengths:

Slows down the computer.

Posted Dec 19, 2007 - The total protection 3 user is a good thing to have for a small office type setting. It is very easy to install. If you have any issues in the installation, it is better to reinstall than to call customer service for help. The biggest drawback to this is that it slows down the machine very badly. You would think that you have a virus on your system. This program spawns many processed and gobbles up a lot of memory. Overall it is a good thing to have if you take into consideration of the risk of virus versus the slowdown of the machine.

3 Star Review A complete suite of security tools

Strengths:

McAfee Total Protection provides antivirus, antiphishing, antispyware, and antirootkit protection, plus wireless security.

Weaknesses:

don't bother if you have other anti-virus software installed before - including Mcafee products!

Posted Dec 10, 2007 - I have a system with older version of Mcafee anti-Virus. Total protection's installation messed up the system so bad I had to do a repair of OS. It was OK after that. Wireless security tools are nice to have and Microsoft's Windows Live OneCare and Symantec Norton 360 don't have them. McAfee Wireless Protection can help changed your router's SSID, or enabled WEP or WPA encryption to make it harder for attackers to eavesdrop on your wireless sessions. Performance is definitely an issue. It has too many processes running. sometimes the computer is so slow I think it got a virus or something.

Posted Oct 31, 2007 - Nice complete package from Mcafee and great for my moms computer. Since I am always concerned that she will be duped on the net I think this provide complete protection from antivirus, hacker, spam etc. Would recommend if you want peace of mind.

Posted Oct 22, 2007 - With total protection I have all the tools I want in one package. I love how we can ban IP addresses trying to hack into my computer. A little expensive, but I recommend this..

Posted Oct 2, 2007 - this is a really good software with a full protection for your computer (home/business). It's quite easy to use and install. The software includes lots of features and extra functions. The plus part is you can use up to three computers with this software. It's definitely recomended for personal use.

Strengths:

Cheap software when you purchase with rebates

Customer service is lacking

Posted Sep 28, 2007 - This software will not load properly no matter how much I try. The online help is no help at all it. It gives you a few suggestions that all boil down to please try to re-install. McAfee has a section devoted to the removal of their software but so far all the suggestions have not worked and I refuse to pay for customer service. I have never had such a horrid experience with a software from a "reputable" company in a long time. I will never buy this McAfee product again.

Posted Sep 27, 2007 - I just got a new laptop and this yesterday at staples . i believe McAfee Total Protection 2007 to do a great job of protecting your PC. McAfee is always running and gobbling up your processing power, and i can't control it. and it makes my computer a little bit slower i guess. Maybe it could be my window vista. But i still highly recommend to buy this product

Posted Sep 26, 2007 - This software runs really slowly and seems to really bog down the computer even more when it's doing the download. Otherwise, it seems to be pretty good at alerting us when there is a problem or the possibility of a problem. Seems to work well and does okay when it's not downloading.

Easy to install and setup.

Weaknesses:

Seems to slow down my computer quite a bit.

Posted Sep 25, 2007 - This was very easy to install, and I like the mcaffee brand name, but it caused my computer to slow considerably. The autoupdates are nice, but cause the computer to almost seem to hang, but you can never be too careful with all the viruses and other things out there.

Slows down my PC more than most SpyWare

Posted Sep 25, 2007 - As with most McAfee products, you can expect McAfee Total Protection 2007 to do a great job of protecting your PC. The software comes with protection from viruses, spam, spyware, and everything else you'd expect from a similar program. It also has great utilities for PC maintenance--I especially like the backup and restore functions. Unfortunately, McAfee is always running in the background, gobbling up your processing power, and there's nothing you can do about it. Additionally, it won't let you install until you uninstall any competing products (AVG, SpyBot, etc.). I like the protection this software gives my computer, but I hate the way it acts like an uber-virus in and of itself. Good to get and put on your granny's PC to keep her from getting viruses. Horrible to put on your tricked out gaming machine.

Slowed my computer WAY down

Posted Sep 25, 2007 - I was initially lured to this product because I could use it on all three of my computers. I didn't have any problems loading the software but it seems to be eating into my RAM. My computers are not reacting as quickly as they had prior to loading this product on. It covers all the bases but I'm not satisfied with my how my computers are running now. We'll see how long I keep it on them. I have turned off a lot more options than I am using in an effort to speed up my systems. I guess I could buy more RAM.

Strengths:

McAfee name and multiple programs as part of a software suite

Weaknesses:

Another McAfee product that hogs resources and has questionable performance

Posted Sep 24, 2007 - I'm using a WinXP SP2 computer with 2gigs of RAM, and this is another McAfee product that doesn't live up to the good memories I had of its older products. I've got a couple computers and tried this three user pack on one. Total Protection 2007 really seems to slow down the computer and I ended up trying to disable more of the software options than use them. It does *kinda* work but I wouldn't buy this product again. I think McAfee should reevaluate what made their older software successful and try incorporating that back into their newer line.
