1 Star Review McAfee just does not work, it failed me

does not protect, more complicated than Norton

Posted Feb 23, 2008 - After years using Norton without problems I changed to McAfee for 2008.All had been well for 2 months until my computer somehow became infected seriously with adware, malware, spyware.It became so bad that I was virtually unable to use the computer. My McAfee software despite being up to date did not protect me. I had to download a spyware and an adware programme to remove 100+ infections, quite a few maked as critical probles. Even this did not comletely cure the problem with VUNDO infections still present and i have to download a specific tool to remove these. What is the use of stotal security software if it does not work. I am returning to NORTON

Strengths:

easy install and it works

consumes resources

Posted Jan 31, 2008 - If you spend a lot of time online, you will benefit protection and security provided by this software. Installation is easy with simple to follow instructions. However, this software seems to consume a lot of system resources. It also slows down the startup process of the computer. But, I guess it is just doing its job protecting the computer.

Effective, easy to use, inexpensive

Posted Jan 30, 2008 - I've used a great deal of security software over the years, and as far as commercial products go, I like Mcafee the best, and this latest Total Protection suite strengthens their position. While it can be a bit obtrusive, at least you know it is actively working to protect your machine.

1 Star Review Looks good, but doesn't act that way

Strengths:

Lots of security features, very obvious good or bad icons for status.

Weaknesses:

Gets in the way too much.

Posted Dec 28, 2007 - As the name "Total Protection" implies, this program covers everything. Looks like it makes the machine pretty secure, too. Of course, total protection comes with a price... like the old sci-fi story "With Folded Hands", McAfee appears to be trying to protect me from myself. McAfee slows down applications significantly, blocks wireless Internet by default, blocks me from viewing my network. Thanks, but no thanks, McAfee. Maybe if I didn't actually have to use my computer.

Posted Dec 18, 2007 - I Installed Mcafee Total Protection 2007 on my Windows Vista PC. Once I installed it, the problems began I then was unable to connect to the internet. It disabled all my browsers a from accessing the internet..When I uninstall it every thing was normal again I was able to access internet and everything was working fine.When I reinstalled it again - same problems cropped up .I finally uninstall it and switched to ZoneAlarm.

Posted Oct 21, 2007 - Total Protection 2007 is all-in-one solution, and considering all the elements included in the pacage I can't complain about the price. It offers all the security features I need, and even those I don't think I need as well(like spam protection). One thing that makes me hesitate to give five stars is that when I turn on all the elements, it occupies too much resources of my system. When I turn off couple of them, it gets better, but still the system slows down. Other than this I'm satisfied with it.

Posted Oct 2, 2007 - I really like this software. It's provide a full protection for your computer (virus, spyware,...). It's really easy to install and use. It take up some RAM from your computer so make sure the computer has enough memory. Other than that, the software is really good for personal use (home or small business). Highly recomended.

Posted Sep 28, 2007 - McAfee total protection needs to be thoroughly reviewed by the company to ensure that the product is fit for purpose. At the moment, Total Protection is simply a very expensive piece of software prop! I was not impressed the pop ups during loading and now my computer seems to be at a crawl, who wants that?? Stay away from this until they get their kinks worked out.

Posted Oct 4, 2007 - After trying several security programs I finally settled down on McAfee. The installation is easy all it's features works well.It is vista compatible Works great for Vista.This product can be customized completely. It can be set to find and install updates automatically.I'm very pleased with the thoroughness of the protection it offers and the customization capabilities. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone whose system meets its minimum requirements.

Posted Sep 27, 2007 - I just bought this one yesterday and was fairly satisfied with the results so far. It;s very easy to install. I had no problem loading it on the laptop that i just bought same day at staples and it seemed to run smoothly. I noticed a little bit of lag in my computer's performance,maybe because i have window vista but not horrible. It is a complete security package and for a one computer home, it would be sufficient

Posted Sep 26, 2007 - The software seems really robust and appears to work really well. The download takes quite a bit of time, and does seem to slow down the computer a lot. But it does seem reliable and seems to work really well and protects the computer from any threats or changes.

Posted Sep 25, 2007 - I bought this one earlier this year and was fairly satisfied with the results. I had no problem loading it on to one of my computers and it seemed to run smoothly. I noticed a little bit of lag in my computer's performance, but not horrible. My only complaint is that this version only covers one computer which is my own fault. It is a complete security package and for a one computer home, it would be sufficient.

Posted Sep 24, 2007 - I'm using a WinXP SP2 computer with 2gigs of RAM, and this is another McAfee product that doesn't live up to the good memories I had of its older products. Total Protection 2007 really seems to slow down the computer and I ended up trying to disable more of the software options than use them. It does *kinda* work but I wouldn't buy this product again. I think McAfee should reevaluate what made their older software successful and try incorporating that back into their newer line.
