5 Star Review McAfee Total Protection is good

Strengths:

Protects the system, automatic updates, easy disabling of features

Weaknesses:

Consumes memory. Slows computer startup

Posted Dec 13, 2007 - Though this slows down the start up of laptop, this product is easily the best. Automatic updates of the engine keeps your machine in good condition. The disabling and/or enabling of individual apps within the security center is easy and smooth. I find Site Advisor very useful too.. shows me the good and bad websites and I have not noticed any speed difference in Internet Explorer or Firefox after installing it. In short, great protection.. its true when they say its Total Protection.. I just hope the next updates consume less of memory ! but worth the money

5 Star Review Good alternative to Norton

Strengths:

Usually can be found cheaper than Norton if you look around. Seems less resource intensive.

Weaknesses:

None really.

Posted Jan 20, 2008 - I picked this up because it was a good deal in comparison to a similar Norton product. It feels as though my machine isn't bogged down much by it. Interface is pretty intuitive, and I feel satisfied with my purchase. I would recommend.

4 Star Review McAfee total protection

Strengths:

good

Weaknesses:

Scanning is a bit slow.

Posted Nov 21, 2007 - This product is good. It works best with Windows Vista. It offers great protection, but there are a few things I don't like, like the firewall. Scanning is a bit slow. I also have free products like AVG, Avast, Cyberdefender, and Windows Defender from Microsoft. Overall I would recommend this McAfee total protection.

4 Star Review very nice software

Strengths:

powerful function

Weaknesses:

pop-up frequently

Posted Dec 13, 2007 - It's a 12 functional software and always updated. It can be installed very easily. Asking for the permission for clearance of cokies, threatens, and viruses. most industry prefer to use them.

4 Star Review Decent software, good virus protection

Strengths:

Detailed info about websites, good virus protection, runs well with Vista.

Weaknesses:

Installation can be troublesome if you have other virus software. Must remove those first.

Posted Dec 13, 2007 - The installation process allowed me to only install the features I wanted which was good so as not to use resources on unneeded processes. I did not install the firewall because I already have one. The installation required me to register the software and also allowed me to opt out of notification options to upgrade or purchase other software. Scanning can be a little slow but not terribly so. It works well with Vista and seems to provide good protection. Overall I would recommend this product.

4 Star Review Very good product

Strengths:

Wireless protection

Weaknesses:

None I can think of.

Posted Dec 15, 2007 - I had the Total Protection 2007 and was satisfied with it. I like the fact that it has wireless internet protection. There is no difficulties in installation and usage. And I feel I got enough protection. Scanning takes quite a while but I have tried Norton and it takes about the same time, if not longer. I got the 3-user bundle this time and my father (overseas) is able to download a version of a different language and use it under the same account. I\'m happy with this software.

4 Star Review Decent Software

Strengths:

various security programs under one umbrella

Weaknesses:

eats CPU and memory

Posted Dec 18, 2007 - Earlier, I used to be Mcafee fan however its no longer that great now. It is a high priced software with different security programs kept together. The goo part is that all those programs are under one umbrella and hence work in co-ordination without any conflict. Basic antivirus does its job. Alerts can be annoying sometimes. It does eat lots of CPU and memory and slows computer like anything while scanning. I now prefer Trend Micro products compared to McAfee.

4 Star Review very good pc protection

Strengths:

very user friendly, instant updates, pc is well protected from viruses, spam, hackers etc.

Weaknesses:

occasionally slows down my pc

Posted Dec 18, 2007 - Since I bought my PC 3 years ago it came with the McAfee protection package and I was very pleased with the performance. My friends and other family members have different internet security provider and we compare it with McAfee and we think McAfee is at par with Bit Guard, Kasperski and Norton but for the price we are getting for McAfee after rebate ,this is the best deal in the market.

4 Star Review works well for me

Strengths:

3 licences to protect the desktop and laptops at home

Weaknesses:

consume lots of cpu cycles

Posted Dec 22, 2007 - Honestly there is no suprise here. The software does the job but it slows down the machine. As always, the newer version is always slower than the older version. It is supposed to be more powerful though.

4 Star Review Great security software.

Strengths:

Smaller footprint than competitors (takes up less hard drive space); also works on Windows 2000, unlike competitors.

Weaknesses:

The interface is kind of confusing at first because you have all these security features before you. Takes a while to understand what it all means.

Posted Jan 2, 2008 - McAfee Total Protection includes antivirus, antispyware, antiphishing, and antirootkit protection, and wireless security. It takes up less hard drive space than Norton and MS Live OneCare. It also works on Windows 2000, if anyone out there cares. It didn\\\\\\\'t seem to bog down my Pentium 4 system much. The interface is kind of confusing at first because you have all these security features before you. It takes a while to understand what it all means. I would recommend it as I am satisfied with my purchase.

4 Star Review Mcafee total protection 2008, not a bad one

Strengths:

It is a all in one protection. Less expensive.

Weaknesses:

Since it is a all in one, so there is a problem of the resource usage. It is often causing system slow if you turn on all the features for protection.

Posted Feb 15, 2008 - Overall it is not bad. I know it is not the one everyone likes it but for the sake of security it works quite well for protecting your family computers and it is for 3 PCs. Definitely you can turn off some of the features to alleviate the computer load and you should be happy for bothof the protection and computer speed. Anyway, it is a big brand name and you should not need to worry about the security issues on your computers. This is important and this is the reason you get it. If your computer is too old you may have to spend little fortune to upgrade it to get your system speed.

3 Star Review Total Protection For Your Computer

Strengths:

12-in-1 Prevention and Protection. Good price for what it has to offer.

Weaknesses:

It slows the computer down.

Posted Jan 25, 2008 - Overall, McAfee Total Protection is a decent product. It is affordable, offers a lot of protection and is easy to use and install. The only downside is that I have noticed that it does slow my computer down a little bit, especially when first starting it up. Sometimes, webpages are slow to load, which didn't seem to happen before installing the software.

3 Star Review Provides peace of mind, but at a cost

Strengths:

Lots of integrated security tools providing compatability.

Weaknesses:

Major resource hog - CPU and memory.

Posted Dec 20, 2007 - Tested on XP. The plethora of tools is great, especially for the price. The fact that they're all "in" one program is nice too, as it consolidates status icons and they all work together happily. Running all 12 things at once however does require a lot of memory and CPU power. I suggest turning some features off, as they're included in basic Windows tools anyway. The biggest thing this product provides is antivirus, and that's really the only thing I find this to be useful for (when looking at performance anyway). The backup utility is nice too "set it and forget it!", but also utilizes a good deal of hard-drive space. Overall, I'd recommend this for someone who just wants to click 'Install' once and be done with it all. It's easy to use and does what it says - just be prepared for a slowdown with almost everything else you do.

3 Star Review McAfee works OK

Strengths:

Works OK. Probably not as good as Norton but it doesn't have Nortons faults with delaying or stopping computer opertations either. No virus has ever gotten by, in the 3 year I used McAfee.

Weaknesses:

Tech support is from India now, used to be the USA or UK so that is not very good now, but OK.

Posted Feb 20, 2008 - McAfee rebate vendor is always trying not to pay the rebates. Each time for the last 3 years they have rejected it for some reason that made no sense. But when you make a complaint, they will end up paying it, like they should have in the first place. I like the product and it has a Maintenance section for the computer, called McAfee QuickClean. Will take out the files that you don’t need and clean up the lost file fragments, the registry, cookies and ActiveX files you don’t need, plus others. So that is nice to run once a month.

3 Star Review McAfee Total Protection 2008

Strengths:

ok

Weaknesses:

may has problems with installation

Posted Feb 27, 2008 - I installed McAfee Total Protection 2008 to make a try when boring with bulky Norton Antivirus. I have Spybot Search and Destroy in system and McAfee won't run the installation well until I removed Spybot S&D. You have the option to choose which feature to install which was nice to save some disk. I like Site Advisor Plus which gives lots information on sites. The protection is good so far.
