Posted Sep 16, 2006 - After having a issue with Norton not letting me re-install to my PC because I upgraded the system and it then said I installed to many times, I opted for something else. Norton Tech Support told me Id have to buy a new license. However the EULA clearly states I'm entitled to put it on one PC and even states in the lower remarks sections that a user can change ownership and remove and give to another for remainder AFTER written permission is given. However, I'm still the original owner and don't need that permission. Symantec has gone down hill severely and Norton DOES NOT CATCH THE VIRUSES LIKE IT USE TOO. It slows down your system and does a half way job on everything. Its just eye candy these days. At lease McAffee monitors your system activities and knows what belongs and what doesn't. This is your safest bet and at a cheaper price.

Posted Mar 11, 2006 - I had used Norton's for many years, so when the 30 day trial of NIS 2005 my new computer (running XP Media Center) expired, I bought the upgrade to 2006. Not only could I not get it installed properly (it would install, but then would not open or complete setup and registration), but with a month's worth of tech support,AND the Geek squad working on it for 2 days to the same end, I gave up and called tech support to find out what the problem was. As previous posts have stated, the support is terse and difficult to understand. I was assured that this program was compatible. When I reiterated that two sets of professionals and myself could NOT make it work, they were apologetic, but was told to call McAffee to make sure the trial I had received installed on my computer was completely removed, as they could be conflicting. I thought it ludicrous to have to contact someone else's company to make Nortons work, but I did it, and the support staff at McAffee were professional and assisted me in completely removing the trial from the registry. Having had good experience with Nortons in the past, I decided maybe it was a glitch in the new program that would be worked out eventually, I ended up giving NIS to someone who was not running Media Center, and purchasing plain old Antivirus. Same thing happened. I returned it for a refund. Figuring that the safest and most compatible thing I could do was to simply renew the license on what came on my computer. But once I had downloaded it, I couldn't activate it either, as I could no longer open the program once it was downloaded. It was a complete nightmare. I will be trying PC-Cillin. I will be wasting no more time or loyalty on a company that obviously cares very little about trying to keep people happy.
