The VideoStudio 11 Plus Video Editing and DVD Authoring Software for Windows from Corel Ulead is a good way to get started editing your home movies and burning them onto DVD for the whole family to enjoy. VideoStudio 11 Plus is good to edit both standard-definition and good-definition video, author DVDs with 5.1 Dolby Digital audio, and even export video for the iPod, PSP and other mobile devices. minimize

4 Star Review VS 11 plus

Strengths:

Easy and reliable

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Nov 19, 2007 - Really easy to use software - reminds of constantly crashing pinnacle - has not crashed on me so far - this editing software has most (well?) of the features of pro softwares in very compact and easy to use package. Would recommend to beginner to a pro - gives you tons of options and solutions - did I mention it's easy to use! :)

1 Star Review Worked fine then quit permanently

Strengths:

Had all the features needed including Dolby audio capture, very good user interface, trouble-free video capture and editing for a few days before it quit. (See below)

Weaknesses:

Inability to capture audio stream from a USB video audio capture device - must connect audio separately through a sound card Line input. Wrong display of audio source even then, showing CD Input.

Posted Feb 11, 2008 - I enjoyed the trial version of 11 Plus for 5 days and was about to purchase it. Then it quit starting, which was not fixed by reinstalling it. A second reinstall after a complete scrub of all Ulead keys from the registry still didn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t work. Corel offers no way of email contact despite a website link that seems to suggest that. Their FAQs omit this problem, which I see has been experienced by others. One user said they cured this by reinstalling XP SP2, which I refuse to do for defective software. Thank goodness I held off on paying for this! If Corel ever hears about this problem and fixes it, I would try the 30-day free trial again (for all 30 days).

4 Star Review Easy to Use. Many Features

Strengths:

Easy to use. Converts video efficiently

Weaknesses:

Cannot read .rmvb format, and .tp HPTV file. No Divx. Don't feel much improvement over Version 10.

Posted Nov 14, 2007 - Yes the software lists many new features over version 10. But for my use I don't feel that way. The output format is similar to ver.10 though it has many fancy names like iPod or Zune. But no Divx, or Xv?. I got it for $20 after rebate.

4 Star Review Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus - Great video editing solution!

Strengths:

Imports videos, images, audio quickly; easy to use; inexpensive; will meet most needs.

Weaknesses:

Seems to crash once in a while, a few things not easy (like rearranging titles and audio).

Posted Oct 18, 2007 - This program does crash for me once in a while on xp--not sure why. But it is a good program otherwise: Quick to import videos, images, audio from almost any source and also quick to create AVIs, WMVs, DVD menus, more. Interface is easy to navigate. Some tasks not as easy as hoped to accompish though--like rearranging titles and audio. A few limitations can be annoying too, like no way to have title items fade in or out at different times. But overall, for the inexpensive price ($50 on sale at amazon), this is a fantastic video editing program packed with many useful features that will keep you putting out nice video projects.

5 Star Review A must-have video edit software

Strengths:

easy to use and as powerful as its competitor

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Oct 31, 2007 - I had used Vegas Movie Studio Platinum from Sony,Corel was much better and easier to use. Sony's software I just found too difficult and confusing, but quickly picked up VideoStudio. The ability to create 5.1 sound and the compability to ITunes add a plus to this product. It gives you the option of a straight dv transfer. Within a few clicks you will have a finished product with menus. Is it that cool?

4 Star Review Good video editor

Strengths:

Easy video editing. 5.1 surround, MPEG-4, and HD support. Supports for many devices.

Weaknesses:

None so far.

Posted Feb 28, 2008 - VideoStudio 11 Plus is an easy video editor. It has support for many popular video, audio, and image formats, such as Dolby Digital 5.1 sourround, MPEG-4, and HDV support. It also allow creating output of such formats. VideoStudio 11 Plus has the anti-shake function for the shaky home videos. It also have built-in DVD authoring that allow users to transfer videos to DVD-Video. Device support for VideoStudio 11 Plus is great. It support almost all the devices recognized by Windows. Though there might be some devices not supported by it, but no such problem has occurred yet. VideoStudio 11 Plus is a good video editor that offers good support and functions and can be purchased at fairly good price. It even comes with WinDVD player software.

5 Star Review Handles high-def beautifully!

Strengths:

Reads and writes high-def, even to ordinary DVD-Rs

Weaknesses:

Don't forget to download update and power pack

Posted Nov 28, 2007 - I have been using VideoStudio for years, but I hadn't gotten around to upgrading from version 10 until a friend who is a small-time video producer was desperate. His very expensive Mac program running on his very expensive Mac could not reliably bring in HDV footage from his very expensive high-def video camera. The various "experts" suggested various expensive fixes, all of them bogus. (The problem is a known bug with no fix.) I loaded VideoStudio 11 Plus on a Windows computer, downloaded and installed the latest update and power pack, then calmly began to bring in the HDV footage--flawlessly. He is now asking Apple et al. some very pointed questions about how a program that (after rebate) is 25x cheaper, on a computer that is 5x cheaper, can get the job done when the expensive stuff can't. VideoStudio 11 Plus also had no difficulty bringing in my own high-def in MP4 format from a Sanyo HD1. VideoStudio 11 Plus advertises that it can write high-def, in either Blu-Ray or HD-DVD format, to an ordinary DVD-R which will then be readable at full resolution on a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player. That's amazing if true--I need to try that.

4 Star Review Corel does it right for once.

Strengths:

Fast (I have a good set-up). Does what it says.

Weaknesses:

This is my first foray into (home) video editing, and have not found any so far.

Posted Nov 28, 2007 - At it's price point, you would be silly to overlook this software package, especially if you take rebates into consideration; Corel do pay up on these if you fill in the rebates correctly. Unlike some other software titles that Corel have taken over buy buying smaller companies out, this one has no major flaws. I would write a longer review on the software itself, but really haven't got into anything too technical yet. From the features I have used, it comes recommended! :)

5 Star Review Great Video Editing Software

Strengths:

Powerful video editing, DVD authoring, and even HD DVD authoring.

Weaknesses:

Takes a little while to get a hang of the software (like any other software).

Posted Nov 23, 2007 - This software allows you to capture video and photos from camcorders, VHS tapes, personal DVDs, and digital cameras. You can then add professional effects to your captured files and then produce a DVD. It helps to have a powerful machine when editing videos, or else you might be disappointed in the speed of the software. Other than that, an excellent software choice.

4 Star Review Plus and Minus

Strengths:

Supports HD Full featured.

Weaknesses:

Learning curve could be steep.

Posted Nov 10, 2007 - Long term I'd really like a faster machine for this software though my computer ran it OK. Maybe I'm just impatient. :) It can take a while and a lot of trying things to get the hang of this program for somebody without much editing experience. I like the ease of converting directly from DV to a DVD. Makes it easier to store video without having to store tapes when I can't get to working with the tape soon. Reportedly the support has much improved since the program is now supported by Corel. In the past I've had poor support when I've had a problem (all too many) with earlier version.

5 Star Review All-in-one Video Editing

Strengths:

Easy to use wizard, lot of extras

Weaknesses:

Not found anything so far

Posted Nov 8, 2007 - I already have a different video editing software and so when this VideoStudio 11 Plus was on sale I was little skeptical whether to buy it. I read the reviews of the product and decided to buy it. When the product arrived I found so easy to install and also easy to use the application. Did few recording using DV-to-Direct wizard and few edits. Will explore more on coming days. It's definitely a recommandable product for video extraction and editing.

4 Star Review Very good

Strengths:

Easy to use interface, wide variety of input and output formats

Weaknesses:

Commercial detection could be better

Posted Oct 20, 2007 - It works well for editing various kinds of video. This version offers more High Definition formats than the previous one. For MPEG2 videos, it is smart enough to not re-encode them when you edit commercials out. This makes the rebuild time much faster. The commercial detection does not work too well for me when editing TV shows recorded on the PC though. I ended up just skipping forward with the nice feature they have for that in the editor.

3 Star Review Quite an improved VideoStudio (V11)

Strengths:

This version is quite easier to use compared to an older VideoStudio I also own. Results are impressive

Weaknesses:

Configuring tuner card and controlling stations are still flaky and need much improvement and handling multiple tuner cards on the same machine is more of a pain. No support for ATSC on my tuner card.

Posted Oct 19, 2007 - Appearance of the UI and the results are good. Works fine with video inputs but Ulead/Corel still have a long way to go in improving interface and controls of tuner cards. The price was right for another intermediate release

5 Star Review Good by definition

Strengths:

Performs very well indeed Simple to use

Weaknesses:

Not a huge step up from the previous version

Posted Oct 17, 2007 - If you've splurged lots of money on an AVCHD High Def camera, this program provides excellent support for high-definition cameras and HD-DVD writers. Considering the size of the files involved, the proxy editing engine handles cutting HD video with aplomb. Of course, with the camcorders themselves costing the GNP of a small country, you may find this isn't high on your list of priorities. If you're not prepared to part with the cash required for the Plus version of VideoStudio 11 because of your more modest editing needs, then it's worth considering the standard edition. You lose some neat features, including surround sound, HD and h.264 MP4 support, and some overlay effects, but the core of the program and its efficiency for editing remain. Our main problem with VideoStudio 11 Plus is that while all the new additions are worthwhile and appreciated, it's hardly a quantum leap over the previous version. If you've already bought last year's VideoStudio 10 Plus, only the MPEG optimiser will immediately leap out as a genuinely new feature. Having said that, it's another very strong release and set aside from its admittedly recent predecessor, VideoStudio 11 Plus is both a powerful and a user-friendly way to add some spice to your home videos.
