sergedy2k - (August 02, 2004) The best boombox I've ever had. Got everything I need in a single box. Great sound quality. Yet unbeatable combo. I spent some good time browsing websites in hope to find a portable unit that plays mp3, CD-R, CD-WR, has a radio set, cassette player, remote control. I don't think any other manufacturers offer anything similar at the momenet. This is your best pick!

dixie600mhz - (April 17, 2005) The sound quality from this boombox is the best I've heard from anything apart from a full blown home system. We use it for pool parties and everyone always comments on how good the sound is from just a boombox. The unit isn't as weatherproof as I thought it would be. The cd tray/lid is a bit clunky and is relatively open to the elements. Also, the back of the system has large cooling vents cut into the case that makes it very fragile around moisture. When I read up on this system I thought it was JVC's attempt at a more rugged boombox. It is not, although it looks like it is. The sound quality really is something else though and you just have to trade the bad for the good.

wlhastings - (September 03, 2004) I'm taking the unit back after owning it for several hours. My main reason it's not for me is the sound quality. I own the panasonic portable mp3/cd player and one feature that I like is that it keeps your place on the disk when you turn the unit off (as long as you don't open the cover). The RX-D29 does not do this. I have to navigate through albums and cuts every time I turn on the unit (the CD I was playing was a CD-R with 153 cuts organized in 66 albums). I also wish the unit had an 1/8-inch stereo input jack. Admittedly, I wanted the cassette player mostly so I could use a cd cassette adapter to act as a line input. I would take the 1/8-inch jack instead of the tape playe

stancanyon - (09/14/2008) I've had about four of these for various locations and liked them a lot...in a small room the sound is great....There IS a Mono setting for the tuner, people should read the directions.. My units have had a tough life in construction areas and still want to work, but the busted antennae and sawdust in the control buttons (but not the CD player, strangely enough, have caused me to retire all but one, and now they cost a lot!
Fresco01 - (08/08/2008) A friend bought this boombox and the CD player also stopped working after using it a few times. I also tried to use the cassette player and it did not work at all. Sony should recall this item and return everybody's money.
jamman1333 - (03/21/2008) I searched hundreds of boxes before I chose this JVC. My choice was based on the recommendations of other PriceGrabber users - and they were right! It is superb. I hear my CD's better than on my large Sony component stereo, and it has brought back to life boxes of old tapes(some irreplaceable!). The lack of equalizer seems not to matter - I can hear all ranges on all types of music... and I listen to everything from Maroon 5 to Charlie Parker to Shostakovitch. My best story is of an old Chicago song (on cassette, BTW) that ends with a toilet flush...well, my cat(who has a thing for toilets) was so convinced that it was the real thing that he jumped up on the table and tried to scratch at the boombox. That's clarity. I look forward to years of 'cookout music' and more with this beautiful piece of stereo equipment.
