4 Star Review Yamaha ST5 Silent Brass Performance Studio Performance Studio

marcinczyk - (January 17, 2007) This product is really cool! Everytime I use it I find new effects to play with. No longer do I have to try to schedule horn players to jam with - this is a horn sectional in a box. I saw a trumpet player using it on stage during the summer and had to have it. He was playing a melody and it sounded like a baritone sax was in the band playing a harmony to the melody. I imagine there are better units out there, but not as compact and not for the price I paid.

4 Star Review Denis Wick Cup Mute

annad08 - (February 23, 2008) I love it! I bought it because I needed one especially before my Senior Trumpet Recital. I love the fact that you can move the cup to close the trumpet bell or leave it open a little. For those of you who think by taking the cup off makes a good straight mute, it doesnt. Buy a V- mute or another DW mute.

bearoff - (March 31, 2007) Follow the instructions and you can not miss. Really keeps others from being disturbed allowing the music player a chance to study their art form. The student has the volume control so they can get a feel for the sound of the notes they are playing through the headphones. Makes practice pleasant for the entire neighborhood.

1 Star Review Miraphone Sousaphone Gig Bag

rslegon - (12/05/2008) No one in their write mind would buy a gig bag thats this expensive without detailed photos. I went to the miraphone website (a german based brass-instrument company) and they don't even make sousaphones, nor list gig bags for sousaphone on their english site. I am assuming this is a regular tuba gig bag, not a sousaphone gig bag. But alas with no photo... I am shopping around for a sousaphone gig bag and am leaning towards the protec one 'cause at least I can see detailed photos and information about its composition and pricing.

2 Star Review performs as advertised but a slight disappointment

DaveInMass - (12/04/2008) I have been using this mute for years (without the electronics) when practicing at night or at other times when I do not wish to disturb others. However the resistance the mute generates alters the "feel" of playing compared to the resistance of your instrument during performance, so I do not recommend it for regular practice. Also the mute changes the playing characteristics of the instrument in the high register. The microphone "pickup" in the mute is also not particularly high quality, so the mute is not recommended for applications where you want to mic your horn (recording, amplification, effects processing, etc.) The caveat to this review is that mine is an older model and Yamaha may have improved on the product, but I've based my comments partially on feedback from my section-mates who have used more recent models of the product and had similar experiences.
