i bought this product to use with a BASIC stamp and it does work, but so far only with a pc. i own a mac and i couldn't find a driver for os x. the company's website offers a driver for mac(most likely not os x), but the link does not work. i have an email into the technical support, but after a while searching for a driver, i doubt it will work with os x.

TopStrengths: Simple to use. "Just Works" once set up.
Weakness: Mac OS X driver needs to be downloaded separately.
This, like most of these USB to serial adaptors, works under Mac OS X with the Prolific device driver. This is not included, but can be downloaded from the IOgear website.
Once I got the driver installed, it worked very well. When you plug it in, devices appear in /dev/ that work as you'd expect serial devices to work. I've only tried it with programs that I wrote, but friends have with GPS software and other things that are widely used.
I didn't try it at a baud rate higher than 19.2k because the devices I'm talking to won't go any faster, but I imagine it will go faster. (It says in the manual it'll do 500kbps.)
Overall, I'm very pleased, but without the driver, it'd be useless, and it can be tricky to find.

Easy to install! Work Great!!!! Up to date driver can be downloaded from tech.prolific.com.tw.... Multiple of these devices can be used with the same driver

Weakness: No driver for XP. I spent about 2 hours, on hold to hawking tech support. and dealing with dell tech support.
I finally installed the w2000 driver in desperation, and it s "kinda works" -
computer freezes when using hyperterminal. yuk.
dont buy this item. buy something from a manufacturer who is willing to write a driver for xp.
I am also angry because the tech support for hawking lied to me on the phone and said "the driver was included in XP" Not True.

TopI also have Dell Inspiron 9300 + Win XP media center edition and it worked in my machine!!
Strengths: No trouble so far. Easy to use. very helpful.
Weakness: None so far.
I use this for my mobile handset game loading / unloading stuff by data cable. I got a new laptop and i found no serial port there. I need this port as some of the data cables for some mobile handsets still use serial mode of transfer and need serial port. This adapter has proven very useful to me.
No trouble so far!!!
And also got very cheap for $25 from Buy.com.

I got it and it works with Windows XP without any problem. Even on the box said that it works with Windows XP. No problem at all. Anyway, I did the driver update as the reviewer below suggested. Thanks.
