Buy a different brand. Texas Instruments refuses to stand behind their defective products. Texas Instruments employs some of the most ignorant, rude, and insulting people on the planet. Since they will not stand behind their cheapest defective calculators, you can be sure they will never stand behind this one!!

TopMost of their stuff is now made in China, so maybe they have outsourced customer service too.
Strengths: Fast speed and nice functions.

Since I am in the higher math, I really needed a graphing calculator. So we saved up some money and got this.... and it helps so much! I don't really have anything to compare it too.... it is good for people in algebra and up though. and just fun to mess around with.

TopStrengths: Fast calculations, excellent graphing, many useful techniques to solve problems can be saved.
Weakness: Screen should be a bit bigger.
I bought this calculator for my business statictics class and found this device to be able to do so many calculations which would've been very tedious to do by hand. The graphing is also very nicely done. Many different type of programs can be stored on this calculator which are very useful for many different subjects such as maths, physics, chemistry, etc...
Overall i am very pleased with this calculator and would recommend it to anyone.

We purchased this for my daughter's 9th grade algebra class. So far, it has fulfilled all her school needs and she'll probably use it all through high school. It has great computer interface with many options we haven't even tried yet.

I got this calculator to replace my Ti-83+. This add USB support to my calculator. Wow, usb, it also happens that the connector on the calculator is the same as the one found on the psp. So if u need a calculator and u got a psp this calculator will give u that cable u need for your psp. That aside this calculator despite being able to connect to your windows or mac os x pc lacks the ability to edit code on the computer itself. Also the usb connectivity isn't supported under linux. The final drawback to this calculator is the lack of key features like RPN. Overall this calculator is decent in the end but just isn't perfect.

About the only difference between the TI-84 plus and the TI-83 plus is the processing speed and available memory and RAM. It could be a lot smaller considering how small other electronics are that have way more memory and speed than this. If you're planning to buy the 83+ and are planning to get a usb cable anyway, which is $20, you could get the 84+ for about $25 more but it includes the cable which takes it down to only about $5 more than the 83+.

TopStrengths: Bigger(more memory) and faster than the TI-83 Plus. Has more functions than the TI-83 Plus. Includes a USB Port which enables communictaons between TI-84 Plus and the computer.
Weakness: None discovered.
The TI-84 Plus has been a great tool for school. It has a lot of memory and functions. It is fast. I can hook it up to another TI-84 Plus calculator for communication purposes. I can also hook it up to my computer.

TopStrengths: Great calculator, easy to use, lots of apps available.
Weakness: Connectivity software less than foolproof, easy set up on WinXP computer, problems on Win2K computer.
I bought this for my son, who needed it for 8th grade Math. It's a good machine, easy to use, but I wish I'd spent a bit more for the Silver edition, with it's greater memory.
Setup on Win XP was a breeze, taking no more than 2 minutes to set-up link to computer, upgrade OS and download & install a few games. But with the Win2K computer, we're still fighting, and the TI site is down for maintenance, so not much help!
But I'm sure we'll work it out. I certainly have no regrets about buying this. Wish they had them around when I was in school!

Not bad..
Strengths: PC Interface
Weakness: Over Priced
I never really like TI calculators before. The only reason I bought this one was because it's what my daughter's school requires. It's overprice IMO although you can get it cheaper with the right deal.
My daughter likes it and she learned using it pretty fast. She is a 7th grader.
I tried connecting it to the PC and it worked fine though the documentation was not good in that area.
