5 Star Review Budget-friendly, Semi-decent Calculator

Strengths:

Decent features, solar powered, good layout

Weaknesses:

Nothing advanced - no graphing or matrix solving

Posted Feb 11, 2008 - First off, you can't beat the price. I paid ~$7 for this thing when it was on sale. I mainly purchased it because some college professors won't allow the more advanced TI-84s and TI-89s. For a little more money than the standard scientific calculator, this thing is quite the value. The display makes it easier to read equations and expressions than the more advanced (and more expensive) TI-83 and TI-84 (though it can't beat the TI-89's "pretty print" feature). The button layout allows the user easy access to the most used math functions. I would recommend this calculator for both college students and high school students.

5 Star Review Great Calculator

Strengths:

4-line display, solar/battery powered, easy to use, inexpensive

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Nov 3, 2007 - This is a great scientific calculator! I am not allowed to use my Ti-89 Titanium for a lot of my exams so I picked up this calculator for less than $15. The keys are placed in almost exactly the same spot as they were on the TI-30x. However, the Ti-30xs functions like a graphing calculator where one writes out the entire formula and presses enter to get the answer instead of having the calculator automatically provide an answer everytime you perform an additional operation. The main difference between the TI-30x and this calculator is the multiView display. Although the dislay is only 4 lines long, it is possible to scroll up a lot more than 4 lines to see previous equations/answers. The solar/battery power also helps the processing speed. My old TI-36x was only solar powered and it produced answers a lot slower than this calculator.

5 Star Review Amazing Cheap Calculator

Strengths:

Price, rich features, solar power, fraction/mixed number conversion

Weaknesses:

Slightly complicated manual for advanced functions, no unit conversion

Posted May 11, 2008 - This is one great calculator for its price. It can do most scientific and algebraic functions, though it lacks unit conversion, which is a weakness since it is marketed as a school scientific. At the same time it can display proper function notation and convert to and from mixed numbers. The calculator can take roots of any power and has dedicated buttons for squaring a number and raising it to the -1 power. The four-line display is nearly identical to that of the advanced graphing calculators. Its size allows for the whole function or math expression to be displayed. Once the calculation has been performed, both the expression and the result are displayed. If you can find it on sale, like I did, buy it without hesitation because it is worth every penny!

5 Star Review Multiline Display / Solar Assist / Entry level scientific / no graphing

Strengths:

Extended battery life with solar assist. Entry level scientific calculator. Good value for price

Weaknesses:

Does not support graphing

Posted Nov 24, 2007 - This is a great entry / intermediate level calculator with a mutliline display that supports the display of symbols. Even better, with solar power assist, the battery life is extended. Would be even better value for the money if it had graphing capability, but how much can you expect for such a low price
