Strengths: It is the industry standard. It uses the most familiar software of the graphing calculators.
Weakness: No serious cons. It's a bit bulky, but really no bigger than others that do the same thing.
I wish that the USB cable were included instead of being an optional purchase. The teachers all require this calculator but truth be told, other graphing calculators do the same thing and feature the same functions.

Manual is a little mass, but helpful.
I was comparing this with ti-89, but this one is good enough for me because I dont need to use it as a Mathmatica.
I don't need to link this one to computer, because I am not doing those kind of "data transfer". However, those who need to transfer data from PC will need additional cable, or silver edition.

TopStrengths: looks nice, pretty fast
Weakness: expensive, ti has monopolized my school so everyone has this calculator
this calculator is satisfactory, but that, at best. It really has no advantages over other generic calculators besides the fact that teachers only know how to use this calculator. Thats the only real advantage i see in using this calculator.

TopStrengths: Required for algebra classes in our school district - clear, easy to read display
Weakness: bulky and heavy
This calculator is great for kids taking algebra and my son's textbook actually helps teach the kids how to use the calculator because their examples show specific key sequences - in other words, it is the calculator on which the textbook is based. All that being said, I think a requirement for an 8th grader to buy a $100 calculator is excessive but, if that's what your school requires, this calculator looks like it will last us through most of high school.

Strengths: Ti fuctionality is already used in my classroom so learning was easy. A comprehensive manual and batteries are included.
Weakness: Additional apps require a cable to download that is not included with the calculator.
Purchased for advanced algebra/pre-calculus class. Enjoy its capability to perform advanced statistics and financial calculations and display the results. The flexibility to add TI-83 Plus software applications and additional functionality requires a cable that I plan to purcase as an added accessory.

TopStrengths: Handy in complicated math calculation; recommended/required by many math courses
Weakness: HUGE, but not too heavy; Takes 4 AAA batteries!
TI-82 or TI-83 is required by our math course. My instructor personally recommends this one over TI-82, so it must be a little better or more convenient. The thickness of the instruction book can be kind of overwhelming though.

This was a replacement TI-83 Plus, my first one got stolen, so even tho it says I've owned it for 30 Days I've actually had one for about 1.5 years now. :)

TopStrengths: Good calculator. Its usage is built into the math book, so it makes it easier for kids to use. It should take my kids through college. Extras on other models are gravy.
Weakness: Not as much memory or features as TI-84 Plus or TI-83/TI-84 Silver Plus, but you can live without them. I feel the price is inflated due to monopoly created by its integration into text books.
I wanted to buy the TI-84, or the Silver Edition of either calculator as they all have more features, but I got a great price on this calculator at Staples.com ($70 after rebate without the Price Grabber bonus). The TI-83 Plus is really all my kids need for school, and this calculator should suffice all their needs through High School, and probably college. I didn't have anywhere as near a nice calculator when I went through college and I was a Math Major. I recommend this unless you can get a great sale price on the better models.

This is a very useful graphic calculator for high school student. It helps me everytime I'm on a test.It has lots of functions like games,graph,etc..You can also download games from the internet and play during the boring math class.Highly recommanded.

TopStrengths: It is made by the well known company Texas Instrument, and I am sure they will back up any one of their products!!!
Weakness: The calculator is a bit bulky and can be hard to remove the plastic cover.
Maybe it's just me but I find the manual a bit too technical and hard to navigate through. It would help those of us who are not as technical minded to put the instructions into laymans terms.

TopStrengths: enough Math functions for a 10th grade student
Weakness: the display is hard to view
It is a very durable calculator. It has been in my backpack for a little more than a month now, it still looks like a new one. It has the most versatile and self-explanatory features of any other calculators that I used to have. In addition to the extra bonus features (like the periodic and help programs) being able to personalize my calculator makes it a little more me, and less of an obligatory tool. However, i really wish i have the money for the TI-84. The display is way cooler and the keyboard is better....

My son was required to purchase this calculator for his eighth grade algebra. He was able to learn the functions without any problems. I'm glad I had to invest in a great calculator that will last him thoughout his school years.

Weakness: Isn't good for calculus! There is no USP port for expansion...hardwear wears down easily
I have taken many math courses and have found this calculator to be quite useful. It does provide the essentials needed for most basic high school math courses, but lacks with upper level courses. For basic math and sciences, this calculator is for you! However, if you plan on going further, try the TI-89 Titanium edition. Although it is more expensive, it will be a better investment!!
FYI- this calcultor is widely accepted on most all standardized tests, but that is because it cannot perform complex functions.

TopStrengths: Great for advanced algebra and pre-calculus type jobs. Works great for a high school student... especially for the SAT/ACT test. This calculator even has the capabilites for certain math programs.
Weakness: A little old, but still functions very, very nicely.
Great calculator, should be a high school must have, for classes, test. Many programs can be downloaded for math classes, which makes it a must have. It is more than a computer it is more of a mini computer.

This calculator is cheaper than others of its kind and the only difference is the amount of memory it can store. Almost all teachers have it so they can help you with it and it fulfills all the high school graphing calculator neeeds

Weakness: the manual it's a bit difficult
Now, I have a question and I need someone's help, I accidentally press the 2nd function bottom and the navigation key that points up (↑) and it immediately turn off and now it won't turn on.
I seriously need help with this, if anyone can help me I'll really appreciate it.

TopStrengths: u can play games on it and easy 2 use i don't no where u people got ur cal but my came with the cable.
Weakness: sucks at negatives if u don't believe me try doing a few negative problems like -5+10 three times
as i said the the cal is great, but don't use it for negatives. and i sometimes play that games in class but not 2 often because i don't wanna get my grades low

Weakness: the only problem i have is that it is so hard to download games. i have to go bye a special cable just do download them and it is kind of a pain!
Like i said, i just think you should make it a little easier to get games on the calculators. But i sure do love this calculator and don't know what i would to with out it.

Weakness: It's big?!!
So I began taking classes that required this kind of calculator in 9th grade. This calculator uses regular AA batteries which you can find anywhere. This was a great help whenever I did my Trig, Pre-Calc, Calc homework and it was useful in all my college courses. The only problem is that I became dependent on the calculator for answers. When using this calculator try doing the problem yourself first and then use the calculator to check your answers.

TopStrengths: Does most trigonomic, geometry and algebra needs with out a problem. Great battery life. Many features.
Weakness: A solar cell could improve. Limited ability to solve multi-variable equations and calculus problems.
I have been using this calculator for many years now. It still amazes me how many features it has as I still discover new ones. The one main lack I did find though was that I does not have great support for solving multi-variable equations nor calculus derivatives, integrals, or limits. If you are planning to study a math or science related field I highly recommend buying another higher model such as the TI-89. A solar cell for aux power this day in age would also be a nice feature to add. Overall though this is a great basic calculator for high school or a basic college student.

Weakness: A bit large
Texas Instruments calculators are well known by both students and educators. When calculators are allowed in a test, often the teachers will say "TI-83plus or equivalent". So you don't have to buy this model, but it makes it easy if you have a long list of stuff to buy and just want to get it done.

TopStrengths: It can Graph, WOW! The best thing is the many different study cards. (though I can't figure out how to delete them when I have too many)
Weakness: Sold Seperately, a term I'm starting to hate. The USB cable does not come with the already expensive calculator.
The Manual doesn't even begin to explain how to work this calculator. I would actually not recommend this calculator because it is a nuisance. I can make graphs, and multiply easier in my head. The calculator is very confusing and you can easily get annoyed with the many different functions. I'll stick to my noggin from now on!

This has the been the iron horse of all calculators for the basic features a student would need, and now with the all the colors they come in it even makes it more exciting for the kids. All the features for high school students and intro courses for the college student as well.
