Strengths:Good calculator. Its usage is built into the math book, so it makes it easier for kids to use. It should take my kids through college. Extras on other models are gravy.
Weaknesses:Not as much memory or features as TI-84 Plus or TI-83/TI-84 Silver Plus, but you can live without them. I feel the price is inflated due to monopoly created by its integration into text books.
Posted Sep 11, 2004 - I wanted to buy the TI-84, or the Silver Edition of either calculator as they all have more features, but I got a great price on this calculator at Staples.com ($70 after rebate without the Price Grabber bonus). The TI-83 Plus is really all my kids need for school, and this calculator should suffice all their needs through High School, and probably college. I didn't have anywhere as near a nice calculator when I went through college and I was a Math Major. I recommend this unless you can get a great sale price on the better models.
