Great Calculator

Strengths: Keys have good springs in them. My previous calculator did not, which sometimes lead to errors in entering data. Solar powered.. Multiple memories.

Weakness: None that I've found.

This replaced a cheaper and smaller solar TI calculator, but the extra cost is well worth it. This is a quality calculator, both in appearance and function. I would buy this one again.

TI 36X SOLAR - The BEST Scientific Calculator

Strengths: Easy to use, works nearly everywhere. Handles fractions easily. Excellent quick reference card.

Weakness: Will NOT operate without direct overhead lighting.

Simply the best. This is the standard for scientific calculators and is often the required calculator for several standardized tests, particularly the FE and PE exams.

Just wish the device was a little more rugged, especially the cover. The cover is not impact resistant. So be careful when storing in a backpack, etc.

But you get what you pay for...

More than enough for student and professional

Strengths: Many advanced functions for the price.

Weakness: None

After having used HP's RPN for many years it took me just a short while to get used to regular notation again. This calculator will take you from the student ranks to the professionals still leaving room to grow.

Decent Calculator

Strengths: Nice keypad, clear display

Weakness: Only 1 line display, bulky design

I bought this calculator because it was required for one of my classes. I was used to the 30xii which had a 2 line display so you could enter in long problems and do it all in one step. With the 36x, you must do each part separately so it is very time consuming especially when you are trying to work fast during an exam.

Best calculator for the price

Strengths: solar powered (does not require batteries), pretty clear display -visible even with night light, backspace to erase digits, 3 memory registers, good features for the price, attractive appearance

Weakness: no programming, no financial functions

Comparable caltulators of HP or Casio cost at least 50% more. TI is a trustable brand. I think this model is the best scientific calculator for the money I paid ($15.99 + tax). And I really like metallic appearance. I can live without programming and graphical functionalities. But it would be nice if this calculator also would have financial functions (very handy). But I checked another TI model which in addition has financial stuff (TI-34II), and it is double powered (solar & battery). I prefered to go with pure solar calculator.

Great

Strengths: many useful functions, low cost and nice buttons

Weakness: require enough light to power up

I am a statistics student and I have been using this TI-36X for more than 4 years. My usage is mainly on its statistical functions for my homework and tests, which had many complicated calculations. It carries all the functions I needed and never has problem taking care of them. This calculator also comes with 3 memories, which is very useful in statistical calculations. Another nice feature I love is its sensitive buttons, which are more comfortable than those of other brands.
The only weakness is it requires enough light to power up. But I think it is only a minor problem, since you won’t use it at the corner of a room without any light very often!
I am buying this TI-36X as a gift to my sister, who is an accountant. I believe she will love it as much as I do.

Texas Instruments TI36XSOLAR Solar Scientific...

Strengths: Many functions, low cost, no batts req'd.

Weakness: One little design flaw...see below.

Full function scientific calculator at a bargain price. A great value. Purchased for my middle school student to perform algebraic and trigonometric calculations; but is powerful enough to take to college. The only design flaw was discovered about ten minutes into ownership. The plastic cover that snaps onto the front and back has a little handle at the top to pry the cover off of the calculator. As you grab the handle and pry the cover off the back, there's no problem; however, if you grab the handle and pry the cover off the front, the plastic lens that covers the display and photoelectric cell may pop off. That lens is only held in place by an adhesive, no screws or fixtures. SOLUTION: After pressing the lens back into place, I took a razor knife and cut the handle off the top edge of the cover. Then instructed my son to always pry from the bottom of the cover, not the top. It's a great calculator, and we plan on using it for many years to come. Highly recommended.

Texas Instruments TI36XSOLAR Solar Scientific...

Strengths: All the functions you could ever hope for and more!, compact, solar-powered, case protects screen and buttons

Weakness: power up time requires lots of light and is a tad slow, cover on the newer model is a little hard to take off and put on

i have used the same TI-36x for over 13 years, since before i even entered high school. It's not a graphing calculator, but i used it for everything, preferring it over my other graphing calculators even. It simply does everything. One of the buttons on my old one stopped working not so long ago (thanks no doubt to my baby girl trying to eat everything) and i bought the new TI-36x. It's got a new body style, but the same great functions. My work takes me into a rather complex labratory from time to time and i noticed that they also use the TI-36x there. This is quite simply the best all around calculator. The only thing i've noticed is that the case is a little hard to take off and put back on, it's very tight, but i imagine after a while it will loosen up, and it's takes a bit more light and a little longer to power on. But that could be just because my apartment has very poor light.

Texas Instruments TI36XSOLAR Solar Scientific...

Strengths: solar powered with many functions. also looks nice

Weakness: slow?

I used to use the TI-30Xa which had all the functions that are required and others that are helpful for calculations done in my chemistry and physics courses (we are not allowed to use graphing/programmable calculators). It worked great until it ran out of batteries during an exam... so as I was walkin in a office supply store, I came across the TI-36X Solar. The calculator looked really nice but the solar powered part was what caught my eye. I looked at the price tag and decided to come home and check pricegrabber for a lower price. After purchasing the calculator I noticed that the cove was actually a clip on cover and not a sliding cover. Now it would be a little more risky for me to use my mid-test reminder notes which I used to put on the sliding cover on my old calculator. And also it is about a millisecond slower than the battery operated calculator. Other than that, this calculator was a good buy.

Texas Instruments TI-36X Solar Scientific Calculator

Strengths: Price for what you get Quality Functions Solar Product labeling says specifically what it does

Weakness: None

I got this caculator for my daughter that needed an advanced calculator for Algebra II and Chem. She had the explorer calculator and it did not have the advanced functions needed for the higher math. We were not ready to spend a lot of money. This calculator doesn't graph but it is more than enough machine for what she needs. I know this will sound funny but she really likes the way it looks too. I guess that matters to a 14 year old?
