The AG-DVX100B is the most recent version of the Panasonic 24-frame standard definition video camera. When initially introduced, the AG-DVX100 (pre-A model) was the first small video camcorder to offer film-like 24-frame per second recording. High-end shoulder mount cameras offer film-speed recording, but the operation of one of these cameras requires a large production crew and oodles of money. This model comes with added gamma correction and other cine' picture-look settings than the first model. minimize

5 Star Review This is a great camera. The 25p mode is extremely useful for professionals.

Strengths:

Both 25p and 50i mode available. Easy standalone and multicamera use. Affordable pricing.

Weaknesses:

No variable framerate for slowmotion stuff like AG-HVX200.

Posted Jan 26, 2007 - I use two of these cameras in my company 040-itv for all TV and DVD productions. Using both 50i and 25p depending on the desired effect. Motion, resolution and brightness differ depending on the selected mode. I also use the wide angle conversion lens on one camera. So I can get even closer to the object. Compared to most consumer models this camera hardly displays any noise artifacts. Even during low lux shooting. The automatic presets look great, but everything can also be manually adjusted and saved for easy access. I like the multi-camera features. They make it easy for one person to operate two cameras. The pricing is simply amazing.

4 Star Review GREAT camera for independent film / industrial

Strengths:

excellent "film" look in 24p, easy to to use, lots of features, very cost effective price

Weaknesses:

sort of cheap, plastic body; lens not very flexible; weak OEM battery

Posted Jul 5, 2006 - This is an EXCELLENT camera value for people wanting a relatively inexpensive camera but professional look; the 24p mode offers video that looks like film, and holds up on the big screen if you're projecting a project, but particularly looks great on a TV monitor. For much less than the cost of a regular camera rental for a long shoot, you can get your own camera with a real quality look that everyone's talking about. I just shot a short film on this camera and am very happy with the results. Because of the price, some of the drawbacks are a kind of cheap plastic body, and non-interchangable lens that's difficult to hand adjust the focus, but those are just minor problems, considering the look you get. As long as you light your shots as carefully as you'd light a film shoot, you're going to be very happy with what you see on screen. I'd totally reccommend this camera, but keep in mind you'll probably want to buy a battery with a longer life and a good case for it.

5 Star Review Panasonic DVX 100B

Strengths:

24 fps capability. incredible auto-focus. Great in low light situations. Very light and balanced weight. Great product for the price.

Weaknesses:

Ten times zoom isn't enough for some situations.

Posted May 22, 2006 - The Panasonic DVX100B is the best camera I have used to date. I can honestly say that it is much stonger than the panasonics original dvx100 which was a good camera as well but the Panasonic Dvx100B definitely is much stronger in areas of white balancing auto features. To be honest I could see a quality difference with the cameras. I love this camera and I highly recommend it. The auto focus alone will blow you away. People will sware you racked focus manually in many situations. Very balanced color saturation. I give this camera and A plus....

5 Star Review Excellent camera

Strengths:

Great progressive scan - filmic emulation.

Weaknesses:

Isn't high definition.

Posted Jan 11, 2008 - I just received this camera in the mail - can't wait to start using it. After doing some research, I had gathered that the consensus opinion of those in the industry is that this is the best you can do if you're looking to shoot in standard def. I couldn't afford to make the leap to hi def at this time, but am very pleased with what this camera can do - user friendliness and the quality of the progressive scan to emulate a filmic look. I also understand that a number of indie films have been shot on this camera in the last couple years. So, if you haven't got the cash yet to jump into the hi def arena, this is the camera for you.

5 Star Review Great camera for professionals

Strengths:

White balance, great focus & long lasting battery.

Weaknesses:

On-camera mic is fair. Want to get high-quality mic to attach on camera.

Posted Jul 24, 2006 - This is a perfect camera for professionals, especially when you have to film on the go and don't have a lot of time for set-up. The auto-focus is amazing, its fast and crisp. The camera is easy to use. I highly recommend this camera.

5 Star Review DV camcorder newbie.

Strengths:

Shoots well in various lighting condtions, even low light. Very easy to use.

Weaknesses:

Has a hard time accurately reproducing different shades of red.

Posted Apr 1, 2007 - I had not used a DV camcorder before so I spent time researching. The Panasonic DVX 100 line received positive reviews from the professional camera operators I talked to. Furthermore, the DVX 100B received glowing product reviews from several tech websites. I have been very pleased with this camera. It has several automatic functions that make it easy to operate for newbies like myself. The auto tracking white balance works nicely. Auto focus seems dead on. It even suggests neutral density filter settings. The colors are vibrant, and the image quality is fantastic. (Red is the only problematic color - see above comment.) Overall a brilliant product.

5 Star Review Great Camera for those Interested in Taking the Videography to the Next Level

Strengths:

Great Layout of controls, wonderful balance, this unit shipped with a book dedicated entirely to successfully using it and getting the most from its features (The DVX Book)

Weaknesses:

Nothing worth mentioning

Posted Jan 25, 2006 - This is a really great camera to purchase if you are thinking of taking your skill set to the next level. I have upgraded from a PS-GV400 and have been happy with my Panasonic video cameras. I did a lot of research before purchasing this camera and was impressed at the many video clips I watched and their cinematic look. The AG-DVX100 has an established and positive history, currently in its third interation (AG-DVX100, AG-DVX100A, and AG-DVX100B).
