Strengths:

Very easy to use. Touch-screen viewfinder is very bright.

Weaknesses:

No manual focus ring. Low resolution for photos.

Posted Jan 29, 2005 - This is the camcorder to get if you want something that is easy to use. It is very easy to record videos and take pictures. The manual is also provides clear instructions. Most of the options are found in the menus of the touch-screen viewfinder. However, for those who do not want to worry about these options, there is also an easy mode to limit the selectable options. The viewfinder is also amazingly clear and bright. There is also an option to adjust the picture so that images are clearer in low-light environments. This is not a camera to get if you like lots of control and options as there is no manual focus ring and the menu options can be hard to access with the touch screen. Also the resolution for still images is only 1 MP.

Posted Sep 5, 2005 - It has the most of the function that minidv should own. If you need a tiny size dv, it will be suitable for you. For using about 1 year, I haven't found any shortcoming of it. I am very proud of having this small guy.

Strengths:

This camcorder is excellent in its features, has a touch-panel screen, great battery life, compact and small fits in a palm of your hand, best of all it looks awesome!

Weaknesses:

Only 1.0 Megapixel for still pictures. Software provided by Sony is a little bit hard to use. (I would suggest the Pinnacle Systems Studio 9 for Video Editing and transfering)

Posted Nov 30, 2004 - I guess the most important thing to me was size, as I wanted to make sure the camera was with me as often as possible. Having a small camcorder REALLY increases its utilisation, as it's not much of a bother to bring it with you to most places. I felt it would have been a pity to spend all that cash on something and yet not fully utilise it. I have had it for 2 months and have since used up 5 miniDV tapes. It helps also that it is simple to use. Good for the point-and-shoot users as well as the slightly more technically inclined, if you are one that seeks a more professional and high performance camcorder, this may be too simple. However, for those who are seeking a recreational camcorder, look no further!

Very small, very light. Amazing nightshot mode.

Weaknesses:

The sony software comes with the camcorder is sock. Don't know how to download video from mini dv tape.

Posted Oct 13, 2004 - This is my first mini dv camcorder. It is very small, very light and so easy to carry. The best thing is you can just touch its screen to choose some functions from the menu. Very convenient! The nightshot function is amazing, too. I can easily recorde something even in a dark room without any light. But the software given by Sony is sock. After reading the software manual for 2 hours, still have no idea how to transfer video from mini DV tape to my computer. I guess I need to buy a better software.
