Simple digital video and still image recording is here with the DCR-DVD92 DVD Handycam camcorder. It?s simple because Sony has created a camcorder with easy-to-use features, and you can record directly onto DVD. Features such as Super SteadyShot Image Stabilization compensates for camera ?shake" and makes it easy to record smoother video. It?s also easy to capture distant objects with 20X optical zoom and 800X digital zoom.Though easy-to-use, the DCR-DVD92 is fully capable of capturing difficult shots. With Super NightShot Plus infrared system, you can record even in low light situations. The 2.5" LCD screen provides image clarity and easily rotates to give you the best possible viewing angle. The DCR-DVD92 also comes with additional LCD touch screen controls for extra convenience. Could digital video and digital still image recording be any easier? minimize

4 Star Review DCR-DVD92

Strengths:

Lightweight, easy to use good picture quality. The touchscreen is very convienent. Good picture quality in darkness with nightshot. Good sound during recording.

Weaknesses:

No built in lens cap. Can't take pictures while recording a movie. You have to switch to the camera mode.

Posted Jan 9, 2006 - This is the first DVD camcorder I have owned. I haved learned if you format the DVD into the "VR" format you can import the videos you record directly to your hard drive using Nero by Ahead. This software will import your "VR" videos onto your hardrive. If your smart you will buy the DVD-RW and then import your videos using Nero and re-format the disc and use it again. This way you don't have to keep buying discs. I can get about 30-35 minutes of video off of one disc. I am very happy with this purchase. We have used it at Disneyland in many lkight conditions and it has performed well.

3 Star Review Great at First - But Be Careful!

Strengths:

Ease of use, touch screen controls, disc recording

Weaknesses:

Very fragile, expensive to fix

Posted May 9, 2006 - I've had this camera for almost a year, and just had to go buy a replacement. In the beginning this was a great camera - I'm no camcorder guru and use my cameras for family gatherings, parties, kids things, etc. I don't need anything too technical and was looking for ease of use. Being able to record directly to a DVD was wonderful! However, as I learned after googling the problem of "disc access" I learned that it's common for the laser to get bumped out of whack and stop and/or randomly stop being able to read/write. This is incredibly irritating - and also cost me some sentimentally important footage. After finding out that I would have to send it into Sony and it may/may not be fixable - but if it was it would be VERY expensive - I opted to avoid this problem entirely and popped for a new JVC hard drive camcorder. I also found that the faulty laser had burned my existing disc so we can't even use another source to get the video from it. No disc issues any more - the expense of the new camera is worth the sanity. For those looking for an easy to use camera and being able to get over the whole "Sony" name thing - you may want to consider an alternative.

5 Star ReviewThis is one of the best DVD camcorder out there fo ...

Strengths:

20X zoom, easy to use, good picture quality, super night shot, and the convinience of DVD.

Weaknesses:

no build in lens cap, 3 inch DVDs are expensive, no editing software, no USB port, and DVDs record only 30 minutes of video.

Posted Jun 18, 2005 - This is one of the best DVD camcorder out there for the price. I have been waiting for Sony’s new 2005 DVD camcorder product line since last year! I didn’t want the hassle of uploading the video to my computer first and the burn into a DVD. How many of us have the time to do so? With DVD 92 all you need to watch video is pop the DVD into you DVD player and if you want to copy it in regular DVD just burn it with a DVD burner, it is that simple! I love the convenience of this DVD camcorder! I am satisfied with the handling and picture quality. With Easy mode, taking video is very simple and 20X optical zoom works very efficiently. Before I bought this one, I also consider DVD 203 model. DVD 203 has some extra features like remote control, 1 mega pixel still image, UPS port, editing software, but it also has only 12X zoom and it is $100 more than DVD 92. I can go on and on … However, overall I am very happy with my DVD 92.

4 Star Review Sony DCR-DVD92

Strengths:

Outstanding optical zoom. Shoots very clear in night mode, even in total darkness.

Weaknesses:

There is no way to connect this camera to the computer. The camera shoots still pictures and saves them to the DVD, I prefer memory cards. The camera doesn't come with any editing software.

Posted Jul 18, 2005 - I am happy with the camera. The zoom and night shoot were two of the most important features I looked at when shopping for a camera. Both of these features work better than I expected. The video is crisp and clear, even when my hand is shaking, its barely noticable. The lack of a USB/Firewire port is the only major flaw I can see. You can finalize the DVD and copy it to your computer but I'm a big fan of pulgging the camera right in. The camera also captures still images to the DVD. I'm not sure how I feel about this feature. Its nice to have plenty of room to take stills but once again being able to plug the camera into a computer to download the pictures would be a lot easier.

5 Star Review Answer to most reviews - Excellent camcorder - If you use an editing software

Strengths:

20x optical zoom, very good night shot even in complete darkness, lightweight and easy to use touchscreen

Weaknesses:

Sony didn't provide an editing software, so I had to spend many time until I found an appropriate one.

Posted Dec 29, 2005 - This camcorder gives an awesome video picture quality. the still picture are just an extra feature, with low quality, not recommended using it. most of the user reviews were about the missing editing software. Well, I had the same problem, until I found NeroVision Express of AHEAD NERO. I was shooting since July 2005 in many many trips with this exellent camcorder. When I come home, I take as much as 3 or 4 mini-DVDs and convert them one by one into Nero format movie MPEG4. Then, I use the NeroVision software to input the 1.5 or 2 hours of movie titles into one long movie, adding subtitles of place names in many different shapes and colors. I even make a title including a slideshow of my still camera pictures with music. Also, I add music to the title menu. Important: I recommend to open and close the DVD door before a new trip shooting. This way, the device will start a new title, and it will be more convinient when you edit the whole movie. After finishing the titles editing, I burn it into one 1.5 or 2 hours of DVD. The results looks like a professional work. In the beginning, my laptop was stuck with the huge amount of video, but I added more memory and now it runs perfect. Hope this information will help to most users.

4 Star Review Handycam DCR_DVD92 DVD Digital Camcorder

Strengths:

Lightweight, easry to use, great outside picture quality, great for the price

Weaknesses:

indoors or lowlight picture quality not as good

Posted Oct 20, 2005 - We've had our camcorder for a little over 2 months and it's been great. It's lightweight and fits easily into a small purse or fanny pack. When recording outside the picture quality is fantastic. The picture quality lessens when using it indoors or in low light. The zoom and other features are easy to use. It's convienent recording to a DVD that can be played on a DVD player. It's a little annoying that every time you stop and start the camcorder; it begins a new chapter. So instead of being able to record our family reunion in just one chapter, we have seven little chapters of different activities. Overall, it's a great camcorder and a fantastic price for what you get.

2 Star Review Poor picture quality

Strengths:

Esay to use

Weaknesses:

poor picture quality, expensive dvds and 25 min recording time.

Posted Sep 3, 2005 - After using this camera for 2 weeks I hated it. Ok it is user friendly but picture quality was preety bad on a big screen tv. Soooo I took it back and decided to buy jvc-gz-mg50 which is the first HDD camcorder so I do not need to mass withe tapes or dvds it is smaller . And I paid just $130 more.

3 Star Review Looking for software to edit the video

Strengths:

Touchscreen LCD menu, Zoom, Compact, Reasonably Priced, Effects

Weaknesses:

Poor Still picture quality, poor video quality on large TV, No editing software

Posted Oct 9, 2005 - I've had my DCR-DVD92 for nearly 2 months and have enjoyed using it. However I am now at a place where I would like to edit the video on my computer and have had no luck in being able to do so. Has anyone been able to find an effective editing software? Would appreciate any suggestions, becuase otherwise I may be stuck with having to pre-produce my videos before I make them to avoid having the down time or goofs on the DVD's I make. If I could find an editing software, I would be very satisfied with the product.

2 Star Review DVD 92

Strengths:

Small, sleek, ok quality

Weaknesses:

DVD cannot be used for anything else

Posted Nov 21, 2005 - These DVDs cannot be viewed on the Computer because of the sony format. It defeats the pupose of why I bought this camcorder. Otherwise just keep buying $7 dvds and record on them!!! just is expensive!!! Other that that the camcorder performs well. The picture quality is not the best but is ok.

2 Star Review Handycam DCR - DVD92

Strengths:

The Sony DCR-DVD92 is reasonably priced for a DVD camcorder and features a 20X zoom lens.

Weaknesses:

Unless you want to puchase sony's own video editing software, forget it. Cannot connect to PC direct. video quality was disappointing.

Posted Aug 20, 2005 - If you want to make a home movie that plays straight from DVD its OK, great price. Personally I like to edit scenes, ad music etc. I have owned the camera for 12 hours and have decided to take back and exchange for better model. Cannot find editing software that is compatible with this unit. I have tried windows movie make, Pinnacle Studio 9.4, Sonic Studio Deluxe all to no avail. Overall very disappointed.

Strengths:

Handy, easy to use. Wonderful performance.

Weaknesses:

Not a great still digital camera.

Posted Jun 28, 2005 - I have been using it regularly for 2 weeks with excellent results. Before this, I had mini DV camcorder. But this is so cool. Such a handy device. Versatility is another advantage as it can record ot different DVD media. Comes with reassurance form a company which has enormous experience in video electronics.

Posted May 10, 2005 - Very easy to use. I was worried about the duration of battery but with a FP50, I will have 2.5 hours. That's enough. I like the optical zoom. It gives me flexible to take pics for far scenes.

4 Star Review Sony Handycam DCR-DVD92

Strengths:

Touch-screen operation provides easy recording. Infolithium battery provides how much recording time left until battery is exhausted.

Weaknesses:

Instead of built-in lens cover, the cover is dangling by a string. The current 8cm DVD-R disc can only record 30 mins worth of footage.

Posted Aug 25, 2005 - Generally a very good DVD camcorder given the price, picture quality, and the ease of recording. It is very light-weight-good for any occasions. Zoom quality is also fabulous.
