?iPod? is a lineup of digital audio players from Apple Computer, Inc. Despite the light weight and compact size ? most iPods are pocket size ? the Hard Disk Drive can hold up to 10,000 songs downloaded from a computer. Pioneer's CD-IB100 iPod adapter permits direct control and playback of iPod through our ?iPod Adapter Ready? headunits. if you know how to work it, it works great

Started Dec 27, 2005

Strengths: no loss in sound quality, no CD's to tote around

Weaknesses: if you have my deck, or one of the many that it was not built for, the interface is just GARBAGE.

when i installed this, i was terribly dissapointed at the interface. others have been saying that the functions such as "pause" and "fast foward" and "8 character titles" were what made it so horrible. this is not what dissapointed me. if you are searching for an artist or album from your ENTIRE collection, good luck. when you are browsing, the delay between each artist is literally almost 2 seconds. it takes me a rediculous amount of time just to reach the 'B' artists. there is no way to continue listening to your music while browsing, as it forces you to listen to each artist you are browsing through. USELESS, i'd rather burn 300 cds.

luckily another reviewer here found the key to using this, and that is to browse using your actual ipod. the technique he describes saves the hardware, without this technique, this adapter is UNUSABLE.

overall, the sound quality is great. it works fine if you dodge the interface and use your ipod, but you shouldn't have to do that.

i am going to give this a middle of the road rating, as it does what I wanted to, and really nothing more.

I'm using a CD-IB100 with a Pioneer double-DIN stereo with no touch-screen and while it has all of the interface problems people are mentioning - there are work-arounds.

The complaint you have about it not being useful for skipping through many artists or albums, while a valid one, can be easily remedied by creating custom playlists on your iPod and picking only through them on the Pioneer.

Personally, I want to interact with my iPod as little as possible while driving. I bought one because it holds so much music in one place. I'd just juggle music CDs if I didn't mind having to mess with things every time I wanted to hear a different album. So I make up a handful of iPod playlists of "mixes" of my favorite songs and use those in the car. If I get bored with one, fine. Delete it back at home and make a fresh one in iTunes.
