Problems with Avic-N2

Strengths:

Nice functionality, bypass so you can watch dvd's, input nav while driving

Weaknesses:

Stereo quit working after 2 years

Posted Sep 18, 2007 - It was a very nice stereo, with all the touch screen options, i really enjoyed it. After approximately 2 years, some of the buttons on the bottom stopped working, but I could still use all functions with the touchscreen, and the track skip, tuning knob. Then All the buttons and that knob quit working. So I had to fully rely on touch screen for all stereo functions, except the volume knob. Then, 2 weeks after that, the volume knob stopped working and the touchscreen went out!! I had to use stereo from memory, where all the buttons were on the screen. Then If I closed the screen, sometimes it wouldnt open. Finally the screen quit working too. I took it to my Authorized Pioneer installation center, Al&Eds, they told me its an inner stereo problem, and I had to send it to Pioneer to be fixed, and it would cost me about $200 dollars. Which sucks because I bought it for 1800 dollars and now after 2 years I have to pay 200 dollars to fix it, what will happen in another 2 years?

pioneer avic-n2

Strengths:

easy to use. very nice system

Weaknesses:

cannot play dvd while on navi mode.

Posted Mar 11, 2006 - you get your money's worth from this navigation. the price was way cheaper than other's. will shop again on this site definitely. i recommend this product to anybody who wants to have an all in one navi, cd. dvd, mp3.

No Map Upgrades

No Map Upgrades for 3 years.

Posted Jan 17, 2006 - I bought the AVIC90dvd in 2002. Pioneer as of Jan 2006 has no map upgrades for this unit. There are so many new roads and exits that have been built that do not show on my 3 year old maps. Call pioneer parts and you will see no maps upgrades. Check their website no map upgrades available. Their old map upgrades run $275. for a new CD.

pioneer navigation

Strengths:

Nav traffic has been very helpful

Weaknesses:

cannot access the restaurant guides while in motion

Posted Jan 2, 2006 - We purchased this right before a long xmas trip in the car and it was extremly helpful on the ride there and back. I wasnt told however when it was installed that I would need to purchas the navtraffic and xm radio but when I did it made it alot easier.

Avic-N2 Review

Strengths:

Fold out screen, very accurate, major functions work well

Weaknesses:

Minor functions (ie. scrolling through map) not so intuitive, can't play CD and use the DVD map at the same time, limited controls with iPod

Posted Oct 20, 2005 - Overall the Avic-N2 succeeds with the major functionalities. The GPS is spot on and the DVD's displays excellent picture quality. Minor functionalities such as scrolling through a map is quite cumbersome and less intuitive. For instance to scroll in the map, you need to tap the screen first to go to scroll mode and then touch the screen to the direction which you want to scroll. I couldn't see why they don't used the joystick button on the right corner for this. Touching the screen to scroll is so cumbersome, I always over scroll my destination. Also with the iPod adaptor there is no way to search through your Playlist, you would need to go through each playlist until you get to the album you want. Minor details aside the GPS works great. I took a trip to Maine the first week after I installed it and I never got lost. It gives you great confidence to drive in foreign territory because you don't have to wonder whether or not you've missed a turn, etc... I found the phone number search very handy, I was able to find restaurants by just typing their phone number in. I'll probably get the multi-disk changer in the future because it's impossible to use the GPS and play CD at the same time even though you can store 65MB of your route but once you stray off your route the Nav would require to read from disk again which means you'll need to pop out your CD and re-insert your DVD map. The price is pretty high but I think the funcitionality justifies the cost.

Superior GPS than any other factory installed GPS

Strengths:

THIS SYSTEM IS SUPERIOR TO PROBABLY ALL FACTORY INSTALLED GPS' -THIS UNIT PROVIDES ALL THE HIGH TECH TRIP COMPUTER,VEHICLE MAINTENANCE,GPS FUNCTIONS,DVD MOVIE PLAYER,BACK-UP CAMERA AND ADVANCED RADIO DATA SERVICES TO AUTOMATICALLY RE-ROUTE AROUND ANY A

Weaknesses:

the system does take time getting use too the controls for the system is more for an advanced user. The touch screen makes things easier, but isnt the best touch screen technology by far compared to the Panasonic CQ-VD7001U dvd in dash screen.
