Strengths:Looks,iTunes and included 512MB card (on Cingular), Speakerphone is excellent, can watch movies if you know how to do it.
Charges from Mini-USB cable
Battery is pretty good.
Weaknesses:File/iTunes transfer is painfully slow.
Phonebook is not the best.
Camera should be better at this price.
Requires a adapter to use regular headphones
Posted Apr 30, 2006 - I personally hate clamshell phones, which was the only reason I did not buy a razr...So when I saw the SLVR came out (which is essentially the razr with a better screen, itunes, and no-flip) I had to get it. (especially when best buy had it for $129).
This phone is beautiful and just as functional.
iTunes:
It has iTunes, which was not a selling point for me but more of a bonus. iTunes is limited to 100 songs, which is not a big deal since it takes FOREVER to transfer songs, Even though the transfer is USB 1.1, it seems even slower, possibly due to the slow write speeds of trans-flash.
Speaker:
The Speakerphone works so great, i use it all the time...I was originally going to buy a bluetooth headset for the car, but I simply use the speakerphone.
I also find myself (and everyone else) in the gym listining to music witout headphones...
..only down side is the speaker is on the back, so you have to lay the screen side down if you want to hear the speaker the best.
Multimedia:
Contrary to what Motorola might say, you can watch full length movies on this thing. You simply have to encode with MPEG4 (64bit) at 176x 144 / mono/ and 15fps
The movies come out to be around 50mb for 2hrs...the only thing is that you should break them up since there is no way to fast-forward or rewind.
You can also add your own ringtones..either using the PhoneTools (for $30) which is easy to use, but limits the ring to 64kbps (which sounds ok)..you can do it manually and set the ring upto 192kpbs and your ring will sound like sombody has a boombox nearby.
Everything else:
The battery is not bad at all...I've watched 1 hour of video, listen to iTunes (thru speaker) for an hour, and talked around 30 mins and it used two bars..but make sure you set the brightness to around 3 or less.
It seems like it will scratch easily, but I've had it for a month and everything I thought was a scratch seems to wipe away...But I still use the leather pouch($10) when I go to the gym simply for the clip.
I also find myself constantly wiping the screen after use.
the phonebooks is pretty bad, but you can do all the entry using the Phonetools program.
the camera is pretty weak for this price of a camera, but you can store almost unlimited pictures given the tfcard.
And it would of been nice if there was a simple 3.5mm headset jack on the phone.
One quick note about Motorola's choice to go with Mini-USB...this is awesome. How many times have you been down to 1 bar and no charger in sight. All you need to find is a Mini-USB cable (which many devices including blackberries use) and a computer with XP (since it has the drivers and will not charge without being recognized..according to Motorola)
