4 Star Review n95 Cell Phone (GSM, Bluetooth, 5MP, 160MB, microSD)

Strengths:

Lots of connection Options, Bluetooth, GPRS, EDGE, WiFi,Quad-band, UTMS(Europe). Email client. Easily syncs with Office 2007.

Weaknesses:

No high speed for US, only Europe. However, US G3 is rare. No touch screen.

Posted Jul 6, 2007 - Mine came with a 1GB mini-SD card. (Not all of the vendors sell it with this card). I bought a 2GB micro-SD card with a mini adapter and use that. Connections: I have used the N95 as an EDGE (GPRS) modem for my laptop to access the net through the T-Mobile network. I surf with it as stand-alone device both Wifi (Home Network, T-Mobile Hotspots) and and EDGE (GPRS on T-mobile t-Zones). When it is used as a modem the battery goes quickly so you need to plug it in some kind of an outlet be it car (DC) or regular AC. Applications: I installed F-Secure Mobile Security. Yes, you will need a firewall and virus protection if you surf the net stand-alone (not used as a laptop modem). Think of it as a computer that can be used as a phone. There are viruses that use text messages to do their dirty deed. There aren't as many viruses yet, but they will come. I downloaded Google Maps even though it has a built in GPS. More on that later. I downloaded the tailored GMAIL for it even though it has a pop application. I like being able to sync Mobile Bookmarks from my PC to the phone. That is, you can define bookmarks in IE or Firefox and move them to the phone bookmarks. Makes surfing easier. I have tailored my phone Google Homepage with the local weather, etc. Easy to check on what's playing at the local movie theaters while on the go. I really like and need the PC Sync for Outlook. It does not sync email with the built-in application. But, it can use any Symbian 60 app. The GPS IS SLOW to find your position. But it does do so. It has a built in mapping application which is OK. However, the special Google maps that you can download does a better job of mapping your trip. I also bought for my 2 adult sons a Nokia n73 (for the Carl Zeiss lens but no Wifi) and the Nokia N80 (so-so camera but has Wifi) since he has a great camera already. They are MUCH cheaper than the N95 and the N80 with all the connectivity options does everything I need to do. I was suckered by the 5 meg camera which I have YET to even read how to use and the GPS which is OK if you don't know where you are. I was really loving this phone until I saw an iPhone. The larger screen and more importantly, the TOUCH SCREEN are to die for. I am sure Nokia will eventually come out with a similar screen with all the capability of the N95 eventually. When they do, I will buy it!!!

5 Star Review iphone killer, no doubt about it.

Strengths:

Camera,Video recorder,WiFi,GPS,call quality(It's still a phone remember). Full web browser.

Weaknesses:

Only supports European and Asian 3g and 3.5g networks not U.S 3g. Though this is not a fault of the, just the fact that Att and T-mobile are behind the European cell providers.

Posted Jul 2, 2007 - The most important thing you have to do when you get this phone is update the firmware. The latest firmware is Version 11.0.0.26. Version 12.0.0.13 should be out in July or August. Either version will do wonders for the phone. Almost any complaint you might read about on the web is dealt with with the firmare update. Only the first few batches of N95's had loose sliders and hissing from the earphone. I must have got a newer one, because I have not dealt with any of those issues. 5 megapixel camera is by far the best looking camera on any phone in the world(iphone only 2 megapixels and takes lousy shots in low light. N95 has full flash). 30 Fps dvd quality video recorder actually is legit(iphone no video recorder). Gps works well takes a few seconds to hook up to the satellite. Not quite as quick as a TomTom, but everybit as effective once the link is made(iphone no Gps). Full web browser using open source(sorry iphone users that's not exclusive to you)Capable of 3g and 3.5g in Europe and Asia. To bad the U.S 3g networks are so behind the rest of the world that this phone doesn't support it. Remember this is not an officially released U.S phone. Does support the Edge network or if you travel around the world you can use the faster 3 and 3.5g.(iphone just plain lacks 3g support on any network).Built in wifi is quick and painless. Spots every available network as well as my laptop. Will support up to 4gb micro sd cards. Sandisk also announced 6 and 8gb micro sd cards to be released this year. Yes the N95 will support.(N95 will soon match the storage capabilities of the iphone)Multimedia experience is the best of any phone out there. Supports flash and divx. Nokia pc suite can automatically take huge divx movies and compress them down to smaller file sizes more appropiate for the smaller screen of a cell phone. Or you can leave the file size the same, your choice. Full support for MMS messaging(iphone none) The N95 like the iphone does not support flash through their web browsers. So youtube and myspace users beware, your videos wont load. Now apple did reach an agreement to have youtube convert the video to mp4 standard for use on the iphone. Not all the videos are supported, just the most popular. Guess who else did the same,Nokia. Once again not an iphone exclusive. The best part about the N95 is that all the apps available are open source and I'm sure one is being worked on now that will support flash through the web browser. Like I said the N95 does have a standalone Flash 2.0 player. iphone users have to wait for Apple and Apple only to develope for the iphone. I hate to rip on the iphone, it does have a pretty touch screen, but it's the Paris Hilton of phones. The N95 is flat out the most capable of phones available in the world today. The iphone is the next step for phones in the U.S, but still about 3 steps behind the N95. The king of phones in the world.

5 Star Review much better than Iphone

Strengths:

5-megapixel digital camera with Carl Zeiss Optics DVD quality video GPS

Weaknesses:

price

Posted Jul 11, 2007 - The N95, in my opinion, is the most amazing phone ever made. iPhone? Doesn't even come close to what this baby can do. With it's built in GPS, 5MP Carl Zeiss digital camera, DVD like video, and the amazingly sleek look, I wouldn't use any other phone. I do have some negatives with it though, so this isn't all roses. I don't like how when I slide it down for the media controls and it switches to landscape that it doesn't switch back to profile when I slide it back. I also don't like that it doesn't work on American 3G (or HSDPA). Over seas, of course, this isn't an issue. Things that I like: -The layout of the front keys is a vast improvement over the N80 and the N73. -The number buttons really stand out and let you feel for what number you mean to push. -The image on the screen is brilliant and beautiful. -The quality of the camera is BREATH TAKING!

4 Star Review N95 Smart phone

Strengths:

Innovative two way sliding, DVD quality video recording, 5-megapixel camera, 3D loudspeakers, internal GPS, TV output

Weaknesses:

Short battery life, no 3G support in US yet, need to pay for additional GPS services, screen still to small for web surfing. high price tag

Posted Jun 27, 2007 - This is my first Nokia phone in years and I have to said this is one of the most feature-packed smart phone I ever had. It does feel a bit weird using this Symbian 9.2 S60 series Operation System because my last phone was a PDA w/ Windows Mobile 6. This is simply a must have for phone lovers

4 Star Review N95 The MacGyver of phones

Strengths:

Feature packed, good camera quality, loud speakers

Weaknesses:

Slow menu screens, slow camera lag, GPS, no querty

Posted May 16, 2007 - This is a feature packed phone with something for everybody in it. As seen in other reviews as well as mine, the menus are slow, big camera shutter lag, GPS spotty and no querty makes texting cumbersome. The slider doesn't have a quality fit and feel and seems loose. The music player is good as well as the WIFI, although you are still limited to loading a webpage on a 2.6" screen. Phone pricey but price coming down quickly. The stereo speakers rival any pocket radio on the market. Despite the limitations, this is a great phone and worth the money.

5 Star Review Comments for Nokia N95 Smart Phone

Strengths:

it is like a computer

Weaknesses:

Battery cannot last too long

Posted Dec 15, 2007 - It's an amazing product. How can they make a smart phone like this that has so many functions. Forget about GPS, Mp3, Digital Cameras. You only need this guy. It is enough for you to go to anywhere. Remember one important thing! Try to have multiple chargers and batteries.

Weaknesses:

Posted Oct 30, 2007 - Definitely an all inclusive phone! If you\'re looking for a portable computer, this is it. Quad band increases its use in other countries. Download other programs into this great phone and increase its use together with the other programs already in unit.
