Posted 1 year ago - I have been looking for several months for a chair that is comfortable and provides adequate lower-back support (and looks good at my desk). This is it!
Comfort: Chair has a wide and fairly deep seat made of very comfortable leather (not sure it's real leather, but that does not matter to me).
Mesh back allows for airflow which is great if you plan to use it in a room that tends to be warm. The back is also "ergonomically shaped" and I can attest that it is the most comfortable office chair I've sat in under $900.
Adjustability: The arms are height-adjustable (raise about 3"); the chair has a pneumatic height adjustment (like most office chairs) of about 4"; the back has a tilt lock (on the pneumatic height-adjustment lever--again like most office chairs), but also has a TILT TENSION adjustment dial under the front, which is hard to find on a chair under $200. With the tension adjustment, you can increase the tension on the back to match your height and weight so that you can allow it to tilt a bit without adding muscle strain.
Durability: I would urge potential buyers to check the 90+ reviews at staples.com. This is their highest-rated chair, and for good reason--it has features and comfort you won't likely find on any chair under $500, let alone $200. The only possible detractions are that perhaps 4 of the 90+ reviewers there noted that the stitching on the back (where the leather stretches around the metal--aluminum, I suspect--frame bars) began to come loose after anywhere from 6 months to 3 years. It seems, though, that Global has excellent customer service, and I think a 4% defect rate is quite good for this price range.
Other reviewers have used the chair for 4 years and have had no problems at all. Given the low price, great features, and top-notch comfort and support for my lower back, I'll take the 4% risk any day.
If you're tall and have chronic lower back pain, you really ought to go to your nearest Staples and try it out!
