Earth is under siege by an alien race. The Strogg are cybernetic warriors?a mechanical frame with decaying body parts, stabilized by flesh and consumed in a systematic annihilation of other species and civilizations. In a desperate attempt to survive a Strogg attack on Earth, an armada of Earth's finest warriors is sent to take the battle to the Strogg home planet. 3 Star Review If it's not broken, don't fix it

Strengths:

Single player a lot better, smooth gameplay

Weaknesses:

Pseudo-weakness: multiplayer has few changes

Posted Jun 21, 2007 - If you liked Quake games in the past, you won't be disappointed. In fact, iD has added a fairly entertaining single player campaign. Still, I enjoyed the FEAR and Doom 3 a bit more than Quake's single player. I really bought this game for the multiplayer since a bunch of my friends play. Great, cheap alternative to Unreal Tournament. Oh, some of the multiplayer maps are the same from before - great if you liked them, not so great if you're looking for novelty.

4 Star Review Fun and addictive

Strengths:

including promotional material and the game Quake II with its expansions, eye-popping graphics, great audio and pretty cool weapons

Weaknesses:

Not very many people playing Multiplayer.

Posted Sep 28, 2007 - You can play as humans or stroggs in Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture-the-Flag modes. The graphics are excellent. You will need a decent system to run it smoothly. If you are a first-person-shooter fan, go get it!

4 Star Review Cool once installed

Strengths:

Graphics, single-user play

Weaknesses:

quirky install, could not get multi-player to work

Posted Sep 27, 2007 - I played a bit of Quake and Doom while in college. I remember the multi-player shoot-em-up fests that we played in the computer lab. I saw this on sale and took a change. First, the bad as I hit it first. I had issues trying to get this installed. I think part of the problem may be because I had Virtual CD software installed (I don't want kids to have to switch CDs). Just had flakey error messages. As an FYI, I tried to install using physical DVD, not a virtual copy. I ended up using a different PC w/o the virtual software and it installed fine. Gameplay in single user mode is great. Love the action. Weapon choices are nice, as is "storyline". It was also nice having Quake II available for more classic play. Gameplay was good, even on hardware the just cleared the minimum. I did have issues where I just could not get internet play to work, I am sure it was an issue on my end and could figure it out when I have time, but not that "easy" to me.

4 Star Review great for 1 person

Strengths:

Graphics, effects (weapons), includes Quake2

Weaknesses:

could not get multi-player to work well

Posted Sep 26, 2007 - If you loved the prior versions, you will love this one. It is a great 1st person, graphics are cool as well. I have an older P4(1.6), but it works well for me. The addition of Quake 2 on the DVD was also a great blast from the past.

4 Star Review Quake 4

Strengths:

Graphics.

Weaknesses:

System hog.

Posted Jul 30, 2007 - Quake 4 Special Edition DVD for your PC. Awesome graphics. Fun game play. If you do not have a more recent system or a weak computer, the game will suck for it. But if you have a good machine, you will have fun if FPS' are your thing.

4 Star Review Quake 4, The BEST FPS

Strengths:

* Very good graphics * Great Single Player campaigns * Great Story Line

Weaknesses:

* Requires a lot of resource to play * Multiplayer games needs a lot to be desired * No bots in multiplayer mode

Posted Jul 30, 2007 - I never really like FPS, preferring Strategy games. However, this got me to start FPS. Graphics are great and story line's excellent. I won't give up Strategy game but this game opens me up to play FPS. I need to upgrade my system to get better game play.

4 Star Review Quake 4 DVD

Strengths:

Great graphics, Smart enemies, Feels great fighting with a squad.

Weaknesses:

Some graphical glitches.

Posted Jul 14, 2007 - Quake is back. Using the brilliant DOOM3 engine (only now you can see stuff) to great effect. Enemies dodge and hide behind rocks and crates and the guns sound very powerful and even include flash lights built it! The squad mechanics in the beginning of the game feel like a futuristic Call of Duty with huge cannons firing in the background and bullets flying everywhere.

4 Star Review Great Single Player Game

Strengths:

I've been playing the Single Player for a while now and really like it. Graphics are very well done.

Weaknesses:

I tried the multiplayer and the other reviewers are correct, it is pretty weak,

Posted Jul 11, 2007 - Single Player is quite fun. Only thing is that gameplay is very linear but then I expected that as most of these games are. I had trouble with certain aspects (missions where you have to guard a teammate), I've found that they sometimes run ahead of you and get killed so you need to take out enemies quickly. You actually have to decide which weapons to use to kill an opponent.

4 Star Review Quake 4 Special DVD Edition (Full Product, PC)

Strengths:

Get Quake 2 and expansions included.

Weaknesses:

Multi-player

Posted Jun 26, 2007 - Quake 4 follows quite nicely in the footsteps of it's predecessors. Single player action is decent as well as graphics. You really should have a high end system to do this game justice. Multi player action didn't do much for me though. Overall still a great title to have in your collection.

4 Star Review Quake 4 Special Edition

Strengths:

Excellent gameplay, storyline. Is basically the game Doom 3 should have been.

Weaknesses:

Short single player experience, multiplayer modes are lacking.

Posted Jun 20, 2007 - Personally, I like single-player games, so the lack of any real multi-player fun was not really a concern for me. Doom 3 was a great engine demo, but Quake 4 (and the team at Raven) really brought the engine to life in this game.

5 Star Review Must-own title for any 1st person shooter fan

Strengths:

It's Quake! Special edition includes Quake II and it's two expansion packs. On DVD media.

Weaknesses:

None that I can see!

Posted Apr 28, 2007 - If there are people out there who never played Quake 4 (or Quake II for that matter), this is a treasure-trove collection at a budget price. Quake 4 is graphically demanding, but most current mid-level video cards do a pretty respectable job with it. It's fun seeing the evolution in graphics quality between Quake II and Quake 4, but the gameplay is surprisingly familiar. Surprised that they didn't through in Quake I and III to complete the quadrilogy, but I can't complain.
