Maxis The Sims: Vacation

Strengths: None that I can think of.

Weakness: When it came out, it ran $40 and didn't even offer all it's vacation options (cruise part is unaccessible). It's basically a glorified "Downtown" with 3 types of spots (beach, camping & snowlodge).

I was excited to get it because I had grown bored with the previous expansion by the time it came out but that enthusiasm faded fast. I was greatly disappointed by what little had been offered for the price. In earlier versions, the Downtown section was offered along with other features. In this version, 3 types of trips are it, that's all that is offered (beach but you can't go in the water, snowlodge but you can't ski, camping but you don't cook on the campfire & you can rent a fishing rod but can't catch anything, etc.) Doing the same 3 things over and over gets quite monotonous, and fast. There is a cruise ship on the vacation screen but it is not accessible. I read online that it would be the next expansion program but then Unleashed was advertised and there has been no mention of any vacation add-ons since. Besides, after paying $40 for only 3 new spots to play with, I really didn't want to pay another $40 or even $20 for just one feature to be added on that should've been in the original vacation program to begin with.

But as time went on, as the whole industry shifted to CDs, Myst remained the number one selling computer game month after month, year after year, in defiance of all logic and common sense. This...
