Bye Bye Samsung

Discussion of Samsung CLP-510 Laser Printer

Posted 5 months ago - In December 2008, I stupidly bought a Samsung printer. From day one, the paper jammed. Problem got progressively worse. I called Samsung Canada Customer Service or rather I tried to. Busy busy busy. If i got through I would be put on hold and/or transferred only to be cut off - again and again. And every time I was asked to repeat all information. It took two weeks before I reached someone in "Tier Two" Customer Service. The significance of reaching that level

does it print with empty color cartridge (and or no color toner), Can it be used as black and white only?

Discussion of HP (Hewlett-Packard) LaserJet 2605dn Laser Printer

Posted Feb 24, 2008 - does it print with empty color cartridge (and or no color toner), Can it be used as black and white only? i brought a printer in the past that did not allow for black and white printing if the color cartridges were empty. Even when only one of the colors were empty, i had to replace all of them. When i decided to only use black and white, the color still magically vanished. Replacing the color was quite expensive (similar to this printer) If anyone could answer this question, it would be great. thank you.

Can't seem to get this thing clean. Prints look like they have a parchment background.

Discussion of HP (Hewlett-Packard) LaserJet 2605DN Laser Printer

Posted Mar 2, 2007 - HP does not support this printer on a Mac very well. I could not have been more pleased when I first got the 2605dn, but lately it prints this background on every page that looks like I'm trying to simulate parchment. The only help I've found from HP's documentation is to move the cleaning lever (above the black toner cart) back and forth 5 times. No help. My black toner is low, but still shows several copies left. Has anyone else run into this? How do you fix it? Thanks.

Epson Customer Service and Printer Quality - F

Discussion of Epson Stylus C88+ Inkjet Printer

Posted Feb 6, 2007 - I used to be an adamant advocate of Epson printer ever since my first Epson dot matrix printer purchased in 1986. I swore to use no other printer and was quite pleased with the first line of Stylus Printers. That was then. Now, they have given me nothing but headaches and I can not for the life of me get their support staff or customer service to return emails, their method of online support. My most recent Epson, a Stylus C86 was sent as a replacement to my C84 when it refused to print after 11 months. After almost exactly the same amount of time, my C86 started failing with eerily similar problems, while I continued to pump bad money after bad in new Epson print cartridges, nearly $300 later. Every cleaning seemed to consume approximately 5% of the print cartridges available ink, yet nothing would improve the print quality. After searching briefly on the web for solutions to my problem I discovered hundred, if not thousands of others with the same printer series experienced the exact same problem... http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/search/forums?q=Stylus+C86 Apparently, a tube that primes the print heads is notorious for clogging on all these models and it appears to occur somewhere between the 11th and 13th month of operation. While Epson MUST be aware of this issue, they refuse to acknowledge they know of it, and if you reference them to the above link they will ignore you. There is even reference on fixyourownprinter.com to a alleged class-action lawsuit. I'm not interested in joining so I can substantiate those claims. I can, however, attest to the fact that I experienced the exact same symptoms with this printer series as a number of posters to fixyourownprinter.com. Wasting but-loads of money on printer cartridges, trying to get resolution from Epson to no avail. Save your money, buy a Canon, HP, or any other printer. Stay away from Epson, at least until they publicly acknowledge and address these problems...

Roll Media

Discussion of Canon PIXMA Pro 9000 Inkjet Printer

Posted Sep 29, 2006 - Does anybody know if this printer will be able to take roll media enabling you to print large panoramas? My printer at the moment isn't meant to take rolls, and as a result you can only print a maximum length of 60cm. Any ideas on the Pixma9000?

It configured and worked right out of the box!!

Discussion of HP (Hewlett-Packard) LaserJet 1022n Laser Printer

Posted Sep 28, 2006 - I swear, first time I ever bought a network device that configured and worked right out of the box and a cake walk through the wizard setup. Test print was perfect, and my first wireless print was PERFECT. So far I love it. I can sit in my , yep, recliner chair, listening to some Todd Rundgren while I type this commentary and then, print without wires, from across the room. How cool is that! Now I do have windows Media Connect, but I am not sure if that is related in anyway. That program serves a MediaLounge server from D-Link. Anyway, I am so happy and I got it new for 55 bucks off HP retail. Diggin' it.

Pass on the Kodak 500. Poor quality & unreliable

Discussion of Kodak EASYSHARE 500 Photo Printer

Posted Aug 4, 2006 - Went thru 2 of these thru the return process at a cost of 34.00 total in shipping for repairs to New Jersey. Kodak will not pay warranty shipping even though new unit bought on line never worked out of the box & the one they sent back, a used but"factory certified" replacement had several fatal flaws, still waiting for a refund. Kodak customer service on defective units is very discouraging. I guess they should know. JMG

Posted Jul 30, 2006 - First one bought new and worked well for three months then got a carriage align error? Got another in from epson, a referb and after the test page the same error cropped up, these errors are definitely in the printer/s because you cannot even print manually from the printer.

Unable to print via Print Server

Discussion of HP (Hewlett-Packard) LaserJet 1020 Laser Printer

Posted Jul 20, 2006 - I just got the printer 2 days ago and tested from my PC. The print quality was really good and comparable to higher-end and more expensive ones. The only major con of this printer is that it uses PC (with Windows only) to render printing, and send the raw data to the printer using HP proprietary protocol via USB cable. After installing the driver, I noticed there were 2 virtual USB ports created. These two ports were proprietary ports and unconfigurable. Print server could not use the port. That's the reason why this printer is not for people who want to network their printer thru print server. I think the only way to make it networkable is making the USB-connected PC share its port. But then, this PC has to be up and running Windows all the time to make the printer available. For the same reason, printing process is very fast, because half part of the printing process is done on the PC (which in general nowadays is much faster than even RISC processors usually deployed on various laser printers). From a few tests, I could see the printer started to print a second after I press print.

Fatal Flaw

Discussion of Brother MFC-8860DN All-In-One Laser Printer

Posted Jul 19, 2006 - I have had several Brother MFC's throughout the years. All of them have had a by-pass where one could feed either an envelope or a sheet of labels through the front of the machine, open a door in the back of the machine and then print with a straight paper path so the envelope doesn't get rinkled and the labels don't start to come off the carrier sheet, which is especially important if one uses Stamp.com's labels where the same sheet of labels may be printed on up to 10 or more times as one uses up the each label. Other than the foregoing DESIGN FLAW, its a good machine but for me, this is a FATAL FLAW so I took it back to Office Depot. It was interesting to get the reaction of a couple of techs at Brother as they too couldn't believe the engineers forgot this critical function! I will just have to be satisfied with my MFC-8440 until they come out with a new 30 page per minute duplexing machine with the old by-pass capability.
