4 Star Review Good pair of scissors if you can get it at a discounted price

Strengths:

It works

Weaknesses:

No smart charger

Posted Apr 9, 2008 - I purchased this power scissors about 1/4 of full price. For the price that I paid, I don't have much complains. It works as it should. You can cut papers, blister packs, and cardboard boxes without problem. I find it's a very handy tool for packaging, since I sell many items on ebay. One thing you need to be careful is that it does not come with smart charger. It just comes with simple AC-DC adapter that you plug directly into the tool. It takes so long time (12 hours) to fully charge the battery. It uses Ni-Cd batteries and it's really easy to overcharge the batteries, shortening the life of Ni-Cd batteries. I always exercise full charge/discharge. Other thing that you need to note, which is true for all scissors whether they are powered or not, is that you need to remove stick goo build-ups from time to time. I use WD-40 for it. Between clean-up, it's a good idea to lightly oil the blade. I use air tool oil, which is always there in my garage. For the price, it was not a bad purchase at all.

2 Star Review Handy for Light Jobs Only

Strengths:

Quick cutting on light materials, cheap, handy when charged and ready to go.

Weaknesses:

NiCd battery (memory effect), not very powerful, only 1 speed.

Posted 1 year ago - This is a nice gizmo to have in your craft drawer, and might make a fun gift, but it's really not the most useful tool in your box. It's fine for cutting wrapping paper or trimming laminated projects, or other light craft work. It's definitely not up to most home improvement or shop projects (screens, etc). It just doesn't have the power. To maximize the NiCd battery's life you should fully discharge it before recharging -- inconvenient to do with a little tool like this. There's no replacement battery pack available either, so when it's dead, you're done for the day! Fun, but mostly just something else to clutter up your drawer.

5 Star Review B&D Cordless Power Scissors

Strengths:

Powerful,Handy,Fast

Weaknesses:

Could be a little more powerful for hard plastic shrink-wrap

Posted May 16, 2008 - Dont pay any attention to the neg reviews on these scissors. No they are NOT power can opener but for clipping coupons and cutting heavy cardbooard the are fast and very handy to have. A welcome for anyone who has fibromialiga. These can be had for way under $10 and I give them 5 stars and after getting one for the home I went right out and got another for the workshop.

Strengths:

Easy to use. Come with complete accessories.

Weaknesses:

Can be hard to use to cut hard item.

Posted May 7, 2008 - People had mix review about this item. I have no problem to cut through hard plastic. You kind need to push it forward. I found it to be very good on fabric.

2 Star Review Power Scissors

Strengths:

they cut nicely

Weaknesses:

big and expensive

Posted May 5, 2008 - I purchased this item and I am regretting the purchase. Not because they do not perform well - its just that they do not perform any better than the $2.00 pair of cordless scissors I purchased at Big Lots. These are simply to expensive to recommend. I would hunt my local Big Lots for a pair of cordless scissors.

4 Star Review Seems useless, but surprisingly handy

Strengths:

Quick to cut, cuts just about anything

Weaknesses:

Very noisy, creates a bit of a mess with certain materials

Posted Apr 22, 2008 - At first, these seemed like the ultimate tool for lazy people. After using them though, they really are very handy. They cut through just about anything that a normal pair of scissors would, and do so without hurting your hands. I'm left handed, and using scissors has always been a problem for me - but not anymore. When the blades move they do make a lot of noise, and they move so fast that a lot of dust gets generated when cutting some paper. It's not a big deal though (although my dog isn't a fan of the noise). The battery has good life, but it remains to be seen how many times it will take a recharge (the manual says to NOT leave them charging all the time).

4 Star Review Good Value

Strengths:

Cuts most things easily, good battery life.

Weaknesses:

Bogged down on heavier fabrics

Posted Apr 7, 2008 - Got these for $5 at Lowes and they are definitely worth that much. If you have a lot of fabric cutting to do with light cotton fabrics or liners these are perfect. Saves your wrists and fingers the work! They do cut pretty fast so they would not be recommended when precision cuts are needed. Also they bogged down a bit with heavier fabrics but I did not expect too much for the price.

3 Star Review Good value, if on sale

Strengths:

comfortable to hold, cuts very well, fast cutting

Weaknesses:

price, only one speed, takes 12 hours to recharge

Posted Apr 4, 2008 - I bought these scissors from a local retailer for about 70% off the retail price of $20. They work great for smaller jobs such as paper and fabric. The blades are a bit small, but they do the job fast and easy. It's comfortable to hold as well. My biggest complaint is at the $20 normal price, I think these are not worth it for the average user when regular scissors cost less then $5 most of the time. But for people with arthritis, etc, these could be very valuable. I would have liked a slower speed as well to cut around shapes.

4 Star Review Good Product

Strengths:

B&D. Works well as mentioned.

Weaknesses:

Needs more torque

Posted Apr 2, 2008 - This is my first Power Scissors. I first thought this as a junk before purchasing, but when I used it, I love it. It cuts light weight sheets, polythene bags very well. If you are planning to use this to cut heavy boards, plastics, just forget about it. It is handy and very useful for my daughter who uses for her craft works - bought one for her too.

4 Star Review When you are just too lazy to cut...

Strengths:

Black and Decker name. Lightweight. Rechargeable.

Weaknesses:

Does not use the B&D interchangeable batteries, so must recharge regularly. Will have difficulty if overused.

Posted Mar 22, 2008 - This item was on clearance at Lowe's. Really cheap. So I had to give it a try. I was disappointed to learn that it does not use the customary Black and Decker interchangeable battery packs like my automatic screwdriver. Therefore, once run down, you have to wait until you recharge the unit before you can use it again. When using it it, it vibrates like an electric shaver while slicing through projects. I really do not have any complaints given the price of the unit and the fact that it will cut through plastic (although you have to manupulate the gadget to catch and start with plastic) that otherwise would have cut my hands up if using a regular scissors. A novel idea to cutting through tough projects although you will not be using it regularly and it will not replace a regular pair of scissors.

1 Star Review Not sure it's worth paying full price

Strengths:

Lightweight, cuts paper easily.

Weaknesses:

Doesn't work on most plastic pack seams and only sort of works on cardboard.

Posted Feb 9, 2008 - I was quite disappointed that this wouldn't cut through the heat sealed seam of the plastic pack it came in. Since that is featured on the picture on the product packaging, I figured it would do it. That's the real reason I bought it. It stalled out and never got a cut through the seam. For plastic packaging, if you cut through the outer seam with a pair of manual scissors first, the power scissors will always cut through a single layer of plastic, and sometimes both layers. I tried it on several different plastic blister packs, and only got these scissors to cut through a seam once. It also stalls out a lot on thick cardboard (like normal box thick), though it will normally finish the job if you pull back and start again. Take it slow though, or it will choke. The only thing these scissors really excel at is in cutting paper. If I had paid full price for this, I would have returned it. I got it for $5 on clearance, so I kept it. If you cut a lot of paper, this might keep your hand from getting tired, but in my opinion, it's only worth $5, not the $20+ it's sold for in stores.

2 Star Review Absolute Piece of Junk

Strengths:

Great cutting for hard to open blister packs.

Weaknesses:

Battery or charger no good. Can

Posted Feb 9, 2008 - I am on the second one of these in a year. Used sparingly, but the battery or charger goes out very quickly. I got this last one the 1st of January and it already will not charge. Same thing happened to the 1st one I got although it lasted maybe 3-4 months before failing in the same way. I
