4 Star Review good product

Strengths:

easy to use

Weaknesses:

no instructions. have to delete and reinstall after every use.

Posted Jan 14, 2007 - The product worked very well. Problems with cable connections and having to delete and reinstall to use because it does not recognize modem or cannot find phone. The transfers are quick and easy once you understand what you are doing. Have and would recommend it to others.

3 Star Review Using the Razr v3m with Motorola Phone Tools 4.0

Strengths:

Product works fine once you get it installed correctly. But....

Weaknesses:

No help included to resolve problem with the v3m. Requires trial and error by the owner.

Posted Jan 16, 2007 - But it takes some time to get the installation right if your phone isn't listed on the program, and it is supposed to work with with the program. I Had to reinstall 3 times using different phone names listed because my razr v3m isn't on the list of phones. And if you don't have a name that is accepted the multimedia section of the program won't be available to use.

4 Star Review Mobile Phone Tools 4.0: Great Product, But VERIZON CUSTOMERS BEWARE!

Strengths:

Easy installation and setup. Makes it a snap to import/export address and calendar data and to back up phone data.

Weaknesses:

None, unless you are a Verizon customer. Verizon has disabled all their phones' multimedia file transfer capabilities.

Posted Jun 7, 2006 - This is a fine product. However, I was disappointed to find out that I was unable to utilize a major portion of this software's capability, the "Multimedia Studio". You see, Verizon (which is my mobile service company) has disabled multimedia file transfer for all their mobile phones. You cannot transfer pictures, videos or sounds to/from your computer with this software. This is an attempt by Verizon to force you to use (pay for) their mobile services to do so. Verizon could correct this in an instant by changing the driver software for their phones that they modified to block file transfer.

4 Star Review Nifty software...

Strengths:

allows you to use your own images & mp3 files as art/ringtones on your phone, PDA features on phone much easier to use

Weaknesses:

didn't appear to work w/ my bluetooth adapter very well

Posted Feb 6, 2007 - Works pretty darn well -- you can move your pix, songs, contacts, and calendar entries back and forth from your computer and your phone. You can even splice the songs, crop the pix, and use Motorola's built-in Outlook type interface if you don't have the programs to do that already (granted, they aren't the greatest programs in the world, but functional). Still, it'd be nice if Motorola's bluetooth driver didn't keep trying to overwrite my exisitng driver for the bluetooth adapter when I tried to connect w/ it (I finally gave up & connected via USB). Also, for what the program was, it didn't really seem like it was worth the retail price. I got it for like $10 OEM, which I thought was about the right value.

4 Star Review Mobile Phone Tools 4.0

Strengths:

Easy connection to PC via USB port Can charge phone while communicating with PC

Weaknesses:

Charger cable not easy to connect to data cable

Posted Jun 2, 2006 - This is a good product for communications between Bluetooth and non-Bluetooth activated phones and personal computers. The software that comes with the kit is easy to use, though I had to figure out for myself that I could drag and drop contacts from Outlook to my phone. I liked being able to put my cell phone on charge while transfering photos from my cell phone to my personal computer. However, I find it difficult to plug the charger cable in to the data cable so that it is actually charging - I have to push it in hard and wiggle it until it works.

1 Star Review mobile phone tools 4.0

Strengths:

Weaknesses:

does not work for razor v3m. updates to latest and will not keep the ringtone converter it will back up the phone but that is it.

Posted Nov 26, 2006 - This program is not worth the money, it does not work as advertised it started out with a ringtone converter than it upgraded which I had to do to connect to my razor v3m and I lost the ringtone converter and all it will do is back up the phone book. Don't waste your money.

5 Star Review Mobile Phone Tools 4.0

Strengths:

Ability to download/upload items such as pictures, phone book, ringtones, mp3's, etc... is a bonus in its own. Secondly you can back up your own phone as most providers charge you to back up.

Weaknesses:

I do not really see a weakness. It is a great product if you have the need to transfer information and pictures from your phone.

Posted May 18, 2006 - The mobile phone tools is a great investment to those who utilize their phone to the fullest. Instead of having to text your pictures to your PC and pay the picture messaging fee or to just back up your phone book, the tool pays for itself. I have used this product at work and now am purchasing it for myself.

4 Star Review Motorola Mobile Phone Tools 4.0

Strengths:

Very Intuitive. Easy to transfer photos and sounds to or from the computer. Easy to backup phone info onto computer.

Weaknesses:

Sometimes it can be crabby about connecting to the phone.

Posted Jul 21, 2006 - I am using this utility with a Motorola V557 phone on the Cingular network. The computer is a Compaq Presario P3/850mhz running Windows XP/Pro SP2. I asked about a utility that would meet my requirements when I bought the phone at a Cingular retail store. They sold me a cord and told me to go to the Internet and download. WRONG! It took a bit of internet research (thanks Google) to turn up this utility, but it was EXACTLY what I wanted! I returned the expensive cable to the Cingular store. The utility has an excellent graphical representation of the actual phone, making it quite intuitive to use. The functions that I wanted the most included file (photos & sounds) transfer to/from the PC and a way to backup the phone contact information. All of this was easily accomplished. I still want to try using the cell phone as a modem, but haven't gotten this far.

4 Star ReviewOn the whole, for $20 I'd buy it. It's not perfect ...

Strengths:

Allows you to download images and ringtones to a wide range of Motorola phones. Also allows Address Book and Calendar sync with Outlook.

Weaknesses:

Some bugs - see below

Posted Jul 27, 2006 - On the whole, for $20 I'd buy it. It's not perfect though. Comes with two different USB data cables. Also syncs via Bluetooth with wife's L7 SLVR. Also has drivers to make your phone look like a USB or Bluetooth modem. Some bugs: have to configure Outlook to believe that it talks to an Exchange server to get the sync to work (something that I didn't have to do for Palm/Intellisync Hotsync); Alarms & appt. durations don't transfer correctly to my V180.

3 Star Review Motorola Phone Tools 4.0

Strengths:

Overall I did like the product. I bought it mainly so I could take pictures with my phone and transfer them to my computer which I did.

Weaknesses:

I had to install and uninstall the program several times to get it to work.

Posted Dec 31, 2006 - I had to install and unistall the program several times. The first time the cable came loose from the phone, the second time it could't locate my phone and the third time the tale end of the instructions didn't make sense. I wanted to transfer pictures from my phone to my computer using the file transfer studio and the program keeps telling me I cannot transfer folder. So I have been transfering the photos from my phone with the image studio to the computer. I noticed there is no root folder for my phone in th file transfer studio and the program doesn't tell me what to do so I can make the transfer.

4 Star ReviewIt has been great to have this little addition for ...

Strengths:

Nice feature to be able to charge phone from laptop, as well as sync calendar and contacts from Outlook or other similar tools.

Weaknesses:

No substitute for a Palm or other PDA device. Calendar has limited characters it supports. Interface is a little awkward.

Posted Dec 7, 2006 - It has been great to have this little addition for my Motorola RAZR V3c phone. It is nice being able to charge off the USB port, as well as synchronize my calendar and contacts. I spent some extra time getting my Outlook and phone contacts in sync first, but I think it paid off since now I have a nice clean list in both Outlook and my phone. When I add someone in Outlook, it automatically gets added to my phone on my next sync.

3 Star Review Could be better

Strengths:

Many features. Good User Interface

Weaknesses:

Has trouble connecting with some phones. Drivers not up-to-date, even after product update.

Posted Mar 12, 2007 - This is a good tool for your Motorola phone...if you can get it to work. I have a RAZR v3m for Sprint, which is in the list of phones that work with this tool. However, after hours of searching into why I couldn't connect to the phone, I finally found info on drivers right from Motorola's website. They say to install MPT4.0, and THEN update drivers using their own driver update software. If Motorola endorses MPT, why doesn't it have proper drivers for their phones? Even after doing this, some apps within MPT seem to have trouble running, connecting with the phone consistently, reading info from the phone which should be readable... I had to tell MPT that I actually had a different phone than the one I own in order to get the MultiMedia Studio features of MPT to work. That really shouldn't be necessary The features in MPT that have worked consistently for me are great. I can save files to the phone's external memory card without having to remove it from the phone (although putting the card in a card reader gives you a much faster transfer speed). Adding ringtones is easy with MPT; so is saving photos to your PC from the phone. If being able to interface with your phone through a Bluetooth connection is going to be a selling point for you, you may want to reconsider. I've never been able to get a Bluetooth connection to my phone within MPT. However, connecting via a USB cable is not only faster than transferring through Bluetooth, but you will also be able to charge your phone as you transfer files, this is definitely the way to go. Overall MPT4.0 is a good tool, if you can get all the features to work.

1 Star Review Motorola Phone Tools

Strengths:

It loaded to my phone and PC

Weaknesses:

It shook up other environments unexpectedly and did not work as advertised. Part of this due to Verizon, not Motorola. Documentation for product was not strong enough to determine usability.

Posted Aug 15, 2006 - I believe this product could be useful under different service provider, as Verizon has turned off the ability to use certain features (as I understand it). In my case, it was not a good purchase.

3 Star Review Motorola Phone Tools

Strengths:

It works.

Weaknesses:

It's required.

Posted Jun 28, 2006 - Should be provided at no additional cost with the purchase of a Motorola cell phone (i.e. RAZR/SLVR). The fact that it wasn't an included accessory with my phone will keep me from purchasing Motorola products in the future.
