Top-notch performance, esthetically pleasing, reasonable cost

Started Feb 5, 2006

Strengths: Sleek, fast, VERY quiet, good cooling, light, terrific price

Weaknesses: I wasn’t ready for the lack of legacy ports (parallel, serial, PS/2)

I have had the Dimension 9100 for about a week now. It replaces an 8200. I still have an XPS B800 (8100) at home. Over the years I have bought about 25 Dells for our office. A combination of Dimensions, Optiplex’, and Inspirons. Since 1997, when I bought the first Dell, I have had one hard-disc fail and one 1394 card shut down the system. That’s it. Both were replaced within 2 days. So, naturally, I went for the 9100. I am not disappointed. It is truly a step up from previous dimensions, although I have not used any of the new Gen XPSs.

Dell replaced two computers for me before replacing one with the XPS400, which the hard drive went on that one so since then they have exchanged 3 XPS400 computers due to the strong odor of wires burning and the a very loud noise as if the fan was falling off. I bought my very first DELL in 2003 and two days ofter having it the hard drive went. I have no faith in DELL and even though they kept exchanging the computers for supposedly new ones I am still having problems with the last exchange of the XPS400, which DELL insists that it is not a Demension 9150, but if you go into system info it is listed as a DXp051, this last exchange even after using it as I was told by DELL the Odor of the wires burning would go away it has not, for three weeks, when I sign on to Comcast I get a message "click here to activate" I have no idea what I am to click because there is nothing there to click. Would I ever recommend a DELL or buy one again NO, It DELL has been a gigantic MIGRAINE HEADACHE to me since 2003.
