Posted Dec 23, 2006 - This is a super good desktop system. Very fast speed, easy to use. Lots of room to add additional equipment. Love the access for camera devices. I would recommend this system for the expert or beginner.

4 Star Review The a1600n is a great value

Strengths:

Quiet, AMD processor runs cool, expandable memory

Weaknesses:

None that I know of

Posted Feb 26, 2008 - I got this at Christmas 2006 as HP offered a coupon for a free Vista upgrade a month later. Coupled with the seasonal rebates available we took the plunge on this computer and haven't been sorry. Although I've never run Vista, I would take it for as drive if I ever had a fatal crash of XP. Or just go back to XP as both program discs came with it. The 9- in-1 Memory card reader is a pleasure for photo fans and connectivity is all one could ask for with 2 fire wire ports and 7 USB ports front and back. The HP packaged software is mostly disposable stuff you'll want to uninstall but I would have really appreciated the inclusion of some Microsoft Office Suite tools such as Word Perfect and Excel. Other than that, memory is expandable to 4 gigs if needed, the machine runs fast and cool and I've been happy with it.

4 Star Review HP (Hewlett-Packard) Pavilion Media Center a1600n Desktop

Strengths:

Lots of inputs. Very good soundcard. Room for memory expansion.

Weaknesses:

Dvd burner not the best.

Posted Feb 25, 2008 - This unit represented our first really good computer, the first being a used e machines unit. After a few months of research we settled on this unit primarily for the AMD dual-core processor. The 200 gig hard drive and 2 gig memory which can be doubled operates like a breeze. The AMD chip is cooled by an isolated fan and runs so quietly I have this unit hooked to my stereo system by coaxial cable and music run from the hard drive or cd/dvd is indistinguishable from my hi-fi. The Samsung -Toshiba DVD burner did fail after a very short time but HP replaced the unit promptly. (I removed it) My only suggestion would be to replace the dvd burner with a quality Pioneer unit as I did . No problems for almost a year with that one. We haven't found the need yet to increase the memory but that option is there if needed. The computer came with the Vista upgrade from XP with the discs mailed some time after. I run too many programs that are XP specific so I probably won't ever use Vista with this machine. We're happy.

4 Star Review Great PC and excellent deal for the money!

Strengths:

This PC is super quick. I put a lot of music and pictures on it from my old computer and it still has plenty of hard drive space, and is super quick in terms of memory and processor speed.

Weaknesses:

Don't know of any

Posted Jan 31, 2007 - I have had this computer for 15 days so far and don't have a single complaint about it yet! I am using this for pictures, music and basic office applications. However, this PC does not come installed with a TV tuner so you would have to purchase that separately if you wanted to record digital cable TV. I don't even have digital cable so I didn't want the TV tuner anyway so this PC is perfect for me and is an awesome price. HP is and always has been a dependable brand.
