Apple Power Mac Desktop Computer - 1 GHz

Strengths: Fast, OS X is rock solid, beautiful.

Weakness: Too Loud, frequent kernel panics, mouse freezes, and you must restart your computer now screens, whirring power supply, not suited for professional audio use, Poor Support.

This is the second MDD PowerMac that i have, it was a replacement for the first that had many kernel panics, system freezes, and "you must restart your computer now" screens. The computer fan is EXTREMELY loud, sounds like a leaf blower, but that is secondary to the power supply noise that will literally leave the user with a splitting head ache. This machine is not suited to professional audio due to hissing, buzzing and other noise interferences. i have owned many Macs in the past and they have been of superb quality, this machine, however, although fast, does not meet those quality standards. For the premium price, this machine definitely should be absent of the problems noted above. However, in terms of recording DVD, ease of use of the operating system and speed, this is quite a machine, it just obviously needs some more beta testing, and i can't help but feel that i paid to be a beta tester. i would not recommend this computer to anyone under its current imperfections. If you are considering purchasing a PowerMac, wait until January when they should have the kinks ironed out. In addition, all calls to Apple regarding the noise issues are met with denial that this is a problem due to its being such a "fast" machine it "needs" to have all those fans. Definintely don't buy this computer expecting to work in comfort as i am sure it does not conform to acceptable noise standards, nor is it suitable for professional audio.

Apple Power Mac Desktop Computer - 1 GHz

Strengths: Ability to easily handle many applications at once. Easy to network with a P.C. OS X applications. Beautiful design.

Weakness: A little on the noisy side.

I love this machine. I've used P.C.'s all my life and this is my first experience with an apple. Man, I'll I can think is, all those wasted years. I'm in love. It's so easy to use. I didn't realize how hard a P.C. was to use. So the mac's a little noisy. Small price to pay when you consider all of the great apps. and functionality. I wouldn't trade this machine for anything. Too many pluses to list here. If your considering getting away from the P.C., this is the way to go. If you don't want to buy one of apple's LCD displays, no problem, just hook up to a VGA monitor via an included adapter cable. I highly recommend. Apple is light years ahead of P.C.'s.

Apple Power Mac Desktop Computer - 1 GHz

Strengths: Powerfull and fast

Weakness: Too loud and audio noise

I like the computing performance of this machine, but I cant stand the constant loud whining noise the power supply fans make. I cannot believe how Apple could neglect this noise problem when designing the new machines.
Im doing graphics and animation and used to work in a relatively quiet environment. Now I have this noisy computer and it keeps annoying me every day, simply for reminding me every minute that it is there and running. It sat on my desk first, but that is unbearable. So now I keep hiding my designers case computer under the desk . Furthermore the audio is full of static noise due to some ground isolation problem.

Apple has to fix the noise issue before I can recommend it. If they dont, wait for the next generation.

Apple Power Mac Desktop Computer - 1 GHz

Strengths: fast, good multitasking, holds 4 hard drives, up to 2 GB mem

Weakness: a bit noisey

I've had one for 2 years. Have not had a problem w. kernal panics. has crashed twice in 2 years. I have over 500GB of storage on the unit (4 drives), and 1.5 GB ram- it runs fine. No viruses ever. has at least 4 PCI slots- a usb 2 card for 20 bucks is a good investment. Also, OS X runs best w/ > or =1GB ram. I think I will get another 5 years out of this unit.

I have had this machine for 3 years.
It has been very solid and reliable. It does what I tell it to do, mainly word stuff (writing books), very good with image management. Lots of internet use, never a problem with that.
Seems to love running OS 10.3.9, which I use. - 1 GB of RAM makes for plenty of elbowroom for multitasking, which I do a lot.
No major crashes, no kernel panic ever. I have never lost files or applications. A bit noisy but not disturbingly so.
I know there are bigger and faster machines but I love this reliable and quick work horse. It should last for years.
