Gateway DX210S SUCKS!

Discussion of Gateway DX210S Desktop

Posted Jul 12, 2006 - After calling and complaining about this machine to the techs at Gateway, from the time I set the machine up, the copany finally replaced the hard drive, which did nothing to solve the problem of the lack of speed, the ability to work in two windows at the same time (not a new idea) the 5 minute desk top load ups, the machine's inability to close programs properly or in less than 5 minutes, the ability to download completely without "giving up", the ability to download from disc's, etc. Instead, the techs at gateway continue to talk to me as if this where my first machine, ask me "what do you have on the machine", "What web sites do you go to" and other questions that are non of their business. They continue to blame me for a problem they already know exists on these machines. So any warranty that Gateway sells you is another crock, because you need to beg them to come fix or replace your machines. Even if you have their priority service plan, which I was suckered into buying. I haven't even asked for my money back, just to replace the machine with one that works and has the capabilities that I paid for, but NOT a DX210S. Do not buy this machine!

XPS 600 vs AlienWare

Discussion of Dell Dimension XPS 600 - Customizable

Posted May 4, 2006 - You can really spec these XPS's out - Dual SLI Nvidia 7900 GTX 512mb etc. Compared to the Alienware PC with the same specs the Dell XPS is a lot cheaper - I personally would love to do a head on head against these 2 - Also Alienware PC's have ti use their own drivers - which would be ok if they would update their drivers ... unfortunately they dont.

Great unit until HD died

Discussion of HP (Hewlett-Packard) Z540 Home Theater PC

Posted Apr 13, 2006 - Loved this media center until my hard disk died last week. Unit is out of warranty, so I'm looking to replace the HD myself. My dead HD is a Samsung SP1614C, I do not know if that is the only brand/model HD used in this model by HP. Also, I can not get the Samsung HUTIL disk utility to run from CD without windows booted? Seems odd that Samsung did not configure their utility for this situation, I know that Hitachi's HD utility does this. Anyway, does anyone know if the Western Digital WD3200JD works as a replacement HD in a z540? As I have to replace the drive, might as well go with larger capacity that 160GB.
