4 Star Review Overall not bad

Strengths:

Plays more file formats than D-Link player I had. With USB connection, you don't even have to bother about playing movies through wireless media player.

Weaknesses:

Only plays wmv9 format files. Even playing the movie from USB hard drive, fast forward and rewind function is pretty pathetic.

Posted Jun 26, 2006 - I haven't used the wirelees media player function yet so I don't know if it is more stable than D-Link I had but I am happy that this one plays lot of files that I couldn't play using D-Link. The moment you click FF, it does a scan and by the time the scan is done, the picture is way beyond where you want it to stop and the sad part is rewind doesn't work in most cases so I am not sure how you can use the fast forward and rewind effectively. Not sure if this problem is related to USB hard drive only. For the price I would expect a little more file format support.

2 Star Review No WPA

Strengths:

It could be a strong product but the interface software was hard to navigate and generally unappealing.

Weaknesses:

Only WEP wireless encryption.

Posted Jun 19, 2007 - I only used this for an hour or tried to set it up for an hour. Navigation was horrible. You have to enter text using a number pad, I found this time consuming and frustrating. The WEP was a deal breaker because I can't set up my entire network that way it is not secure at all. Running a cable was not feasible either due to distance. Sending back.

Strengths:

Terrific array of connections for both audio and video Fairly easy installation lots of formats supported USB 2.0 card readers supported

Weaknesses:

Software still more like beta than you might want (new versions are promised "soon") Some interface elements are a little puzzling (improvements promised)

Posted Mar 27, 2005 - In this relatively new area, the linktheater holds the high ground on price at the moment (sadly), but also does seem to have the most features out of the box, including s-video/composite, and component video (720p and 1080i) outputs, optical and coaxial digital, and analog audio. I don't know how well the wireless part works, but the 100mbit wired ethernet works well. The remote is OK, if basic -- you'll probably want to use a univeral remote, anyway.

Strengths:

Compatibility with different formats is outstanding. Supports DivX and HD streams. Clean and stable user interface for video and music.

Weaknesses:

Internet browsing is not very stable. Radio needs some flexibility to let user define own URI.

Posted Apr 17, 2005 - Remotely plays movies form PC flawlessly. Well designed and intuitive user interface. I've used Roku PhotoBridge before and switched to LinkTheater. Roku was so buggy and unstable, that LinkTheater simply shines compare to it. After all the troubles with Roku, I just love it...

3 Star Review LinkTheater by Buffalo Tech

Strengths:

Easy set-up, great connection options

Weaknesses:

Wireless playback of music always starts with a hiss, music playback option limited to selection from only one folder.

Posted Sep 26, 2005 - I was able to set-up the unit and connect to my wireless network within 45 mins of taking it out of the box. The unit found my network so the only work was to select wireless connection and enter the WEP. Once I had it connected it found the Terastation with the pictures and music files. Navigating to the correct directories was simple, but since you can only play from one directory (will not include sub-directories) you can not store the files by album which is the default method for iTunes. That limits playback to one album at a time. Also the first few seconds of the first song always has some hiss. Once past that error the music plays faultlessly. I like the unit but wish it could read all the directories and allow a selection for playback.

3 Star Review PCP3LWGDVD LinkTheater High-Definition Wireless Media Player/DVD Player

Strengths:

Compatible with many differents files, come with wire or wireless, come with USB port so you can plug external hard drives, USB flash/thumb drives...etc...

Weaknesses:

Did not compatible and did not work with NTSF file systems as in Window 2000 or XP. The external hard drives have to format in FAT32 file systems in order to be recognize by the Buffalo player.

Posted Aug 24, 2005 - It is freeze sometimes. Need to ask buffalo to have some more update in order to play with NTFS file systems. Hopefully will have some more update and firmware from buffalo. Has a small weird look alike HDMI output but it wasn't an HDMI output and don't know what that video ouput is used for ?!?!?!

Strengths:

Very good dvd player. Good navigation. Easy setup. Streams video, music and photos flawlessly when wired to the network.

Weaknesses:

No .ifo recognition to skip chapters. Rewind feature often fast forwards. Unit stops responding to remote after too many forwarding attempts.

Posted Jun 14, 2006 - Overall this is the best unit on the market. This industry still has some bugs to work out, but I would definitely purchase this product again given the added conveniences to my home theater.

3 Star Review LinkTheater High-Definition Wireless Media Player/DVD Player

Strengths:

Easy to set up. Was able to detect the network without problem. The USB connection comes in handy. I have not tried but it was able to detect the device.

Weaknesses:

Only plays wmv9 format files. The server software has few features. The server software for the Netgear I have has more features for creating albums. The remote is not responsive.

Posted Oct 6, 2007 - Connection is stable. The DVD player function well. Weak remote. It has to be pointed at the player to get it to work. I have tried the internet browser for a short time but it did not work well. Other than that the sound and video quality is acceptable.

Thank you for the valuable feedback!

4 Star Review Buffalo Network Media Player

Strengths:

Picture quality (HD), Easy Setup, UPnP compliant

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Sep 19, 2007 - This is a great network media player that i use to play all my digital music & videos on my main tv using the high-speed network. i use it in a wired config although it is wireless-G capable. works very well and picks up most of my media servers installed (Mediatomb, Wizd, Nero MediaHome etc). playback is excellent and very easy to setup and operate. the built-in DVD player is excellent as well. all-in-all a super player for the price.

3 Star Review LinkTheater HIGH Def Wireless Media Player

Strengths:

Easy to set up for basic use. Built in dvd player.

Weaknesses:

No streaming directly from pc to tv/sound system. Software isnt the best.

Posted Jun 22, 2007 - This is a good little system especially if you dont have a dvd player already. It was pretty quick to set up. I am not impressed with the software included. I still cant get the thing to play online radio which it is supposed to do. If you have time to play around with this system and learn all the ins and outs it is great. It is also a little buggy. Doesnt always work perfectly.

Thank you for the valuable feedback!
