Now, record two shows at once! Record from two basic cable channels, or one basic cable and one digital cable channel, at once. Does not support recording from two digital cable or satellite channels at once. Supports recording from cable and satellite sources only; does not support recording from over-the-air antenna. New enhancements to the Series2 DT DVR include a built-in Ethernet port to make connecting to your home network even easier. A bezel featuring a gloss black center section and real brushed aluminum surround gives the Series2 DT DVR a modern, upscale look. But we know enough not to mess with a good thing: the same TiVo peanut remote that TiVo subscribers have come to know and love is included. minimize

5 Star Review Don't hesitate. Order a Tivo ASAP!!!

Strengths:

User friendly, easy to navigate, ability to record two shows at one time (on regular cable), easy to access via a PC, Season Pass to all my favorite programs

Weaknesses:

Channels change slower than regular tv

Posted Jul 30, 2006 - I've had my first Tivo for about 4 months and love it. Given I haven't gotten to use it much because it's been taken over by my daughter's kids programming it's still the best purchase I've made in a long time. It changes the way you watch tv. You don't have to channel surf to find a good program anymore. You just go to your list of programs and select from the many choices that you've made or go to the list of programs that Tivo "thinks" that you will like. I love the Season Pass feature. Take the plunge...you won't regret it.

2 Star Review dissatisfied customer

Strengths:

works great for 9 months

Weaknesses:

Customer service wait time on the phone

Posted Sep 23, 2006 - My TiVo was wonderful for the first nine months, no problems other than the regular need to download information. However, recently it stopped connecting with the download setup and after 5 weeks of remaining on hold with the customer service folks (who were great to me, just couldn't help)I was told that my TiVo box could be exchanged for $50.00 plus shipping and handling, and when I asked to terminate my service, I was informed that I would continue to be billed for the monthly service even though I would not be using it. Apparently, unlike other companies, the TiVo warranty is only good for 4 months!!!

5 Star Review Tivo Series2 80hr is Great!

Strengths:

Dual tuner, great user interface, great options to connect to home network

Weaknesses:

no HDTV recording

Posted Sep 4, 2006 - Highly reccomend, had Moxi DVR from Adelphia cable before, which was much worse than Tivo, except for the fact it could record HDTV. Tivo has everything else right though, easy interface to work with, and many functions to connect to your home network. 80 hours is plenty of time, but just know this is when you record on the lowest basic quality, which is fine for most things, high quality recording will reduce it down to around 30 hrs. Had great deal with subscription from Tivo so great deal for the money.

4 Star Review Simply Great

Strengths:

Great interface, very easy to use, and very nice to have

Weaknesses:

Only the Tivo monthly service fee

Posted Jun 28, 2006 - Love the twin tuner. Just getting used to having Tivo, but I already love it. The unit is so simple to use, just hook up and go. Considering getting another one to put in a different location.

5 Star Review Dual Tuners Great

Strengths:

More reliable than cable alternatives, ability to upgrade hard drive for mega space (if you know where to look), Many way to search for programming, built in NIC

Weaknesses:

Sometimes thinks reruns are new episode, inability to tell it to just record show on a single channel, can't dual record digital channels

Posted Oct 15, 2006 - I've been using Tivos for years and this is my favorite unit yet, it finally has a network connection built in so no need to use usb to network adapter. The Tivo 2 features are nice such as streaming music/images from pc. I love the ability to record 2 channels at once - I just plug my cable coax in the back (yeah I miss digital - I use the unreliable cable box for that) and then don't have to mess with the rig to change channels. If you only watch digital then skip this unit. I however find it great for catching the regular network television series I watch which my cable box either runs out of space for or for some reason just messes up recording.

3 Star Review The best ANALOG Tivo, but it's days are numbered

Strengths:

Ability to record 2 channels at once; Robust Tivo recording and program search capability

Weaknesses:

Can record from just one cable box or satellite receiver; 2nd tuner is only for analog (non-digital) TV channels

Posted Feb 21, 2008 - I got this knowing that it will be usable for a short time only; a year or two. With rebates, it ended up as free, with me only paying for the annual service. Coming from the old Replay TV service, I dearly miss automatic commercial skip, but there is a way to program 30-second jumps. The dual tuner will become moot once broadcasters and cable companies switch to all digital. The robust programming service is good, but I still prefer the more straightforward Replay display and excellent remote.

4 Star Review Tivo Dual Tuner DVR

Strengths:

Able to record two shows simultaneously*, built in networking, easy interface

Weaknesses:

*Does not support recording from two digital cable or satellite channels at once, lag time in changing channels, no on/off/standby switch, obsolete in a year?

Posted Dec 25, 2007 - Tivo has been around for a while now, and the overall experience is fairly refined. Finding shows to record and customizing the recording schedule and options are very nice. The biggest problem in everyday use is the delay between pressing buttons on the remote and the actual registering of the command. Also, the absence of true on/off/standby and the fact that the internal drive is always humming means the Tivo is not very efficient in terms of power consumption. When analog converts over to digital in Feb. 2009, are you still going to use this? We'll see, but for now this is a nice way to record two shows at the same time.

4 Star Review Make sure to get a Dual Tuner when you buy a TiVo

Strengths:

Dual tuners lets you watch and record two different channels, friendly user interface

Weaknesses:

Graphical interface can make performance sluggish, requires TiVo service and subscription fee

Posted Mar 3, 2008 - Pros: I also have a single tuner Toshiba TS-RX20 TiVo unit. I highly recommend getting a dual tuner model, because once you get used to having TiVo features like the ability to pause and rewind TV, you won't want to go back. I always wanted to be able to use another channel while recording on my single tuner and now I finally can. The TiVo setup process is very friendly and had no problem connecting to my wireless network using TiVo's USB WiFi adapter. Cons: TiVo updated their graphical interface with fancier graphics, including shading and 3D appearances, which has slowed down most everything. It's not intolerable, but is noticeable if you had used the old version. Minor gripe. The other issue is the service requirement. My Toshiba has a TiVo basic service that allows the unit to act like a regular VCR if you don't have TiVo service, so you can manually setup recordings and watch TV. With this unit, if you don't subscribe or should TiVo ever leave the market, you wind up with a great boat anchor or use up landfill space (recycle waste electronics!).

3 Star Review intuitive interface and easy setup

Strengths:

dual channel recording capability. great program search interface.

Weaknesses:

ntsc not astc? ie not digital signal compatable.

Posted Feb 28, 2008 - I bought this 80gb dual tuner from Amazon 3 months ago and have had no problems. The setup was easy with the usb wireless connecting automatically to my network and updating the machine. I'll never use vhs again. Easy to go to TiVo and rig up favorites that record each week only when they are new episodes.

4 Star Review Awesome TIVO, better than the single tuner one

Strengths:

Records 2 programs simultaneously, good capacity !!! I love it, much better than the 40GB single tuner one I had before.

Weaknesses:

Cannot record from antenna / OTA transmissions, thats a bummer.

Posted Feb 17, 2008 - Nice unit, good recording capacity, as always, the TIVO software is a breeze, I love the option of downloading movies from Amazon. Better than the single tuner, allows to record 2 programs simultaneously, although cannot record over the air transmissions which is a bummer, I was hoping to record over the air, but thats ok.

3 Star Review Very cool but sensitive

Strengths:

like their sales pitch says

Weaknesses:

be careful where you place it, ominous feedback from the support forums

Posted Jan 15, 2008 - Got this brand new series 2 direct from Tivo and loved it immediately. Three weeks into ownership, while watching live tv my picture started to pixelate, then froze. The sound went dead and I could only get the picture moving again by switching channels and coming back again. That would unfreeze the picture for a minute or two, then the same thing happened again and again. Not a frequent occurrance but one you could count on every last time. I went onto the tivo support forums and saw other users with the same unit complaining about the same thing. One recurring response coming back from Tivo said their hard drives were failing and users should upgrade their hard drives or replace the whole unit. I wasn't about to go that route without trying some simple fixes... I moved my tivo off the cable box and into its own spot in the wall unit and the problem hasn't come back. I posted this story to Tivo's forum and one of their monitors said that it must've been overheating but I should also be prepared for my hard drive failing either now, or soon. I didn't like the overtone, as if they were telling me, "OK so you think you resolved this but it's a matter of time until you have to come to us for this repair, so be prepared for the inconvenience". Just be aware of my experience before buying--considering how frequently they posted that failing hard drive response, that must be a rampant problem with these. Keep them off your cable box and off the tv if you can.

4 Star Review excellent DVR

Strengths:

dual tunner, quick setup

Weaknesses:

some picture quality

Posted Jan 6, 2008 - Easy to setup - just some button clicks needed. awesome to be able to record two programs at the same time. picture quality drops when an A/B comparison with the signal coming through the Tivo.

5 Star Review dual tunner tivo

Strengths:

easy play, dual tunner

Weaknesses:

lag time, not easy upgrade HD

Posted Jan 6, 2008 - It's easy to use for everybody in the family. The features of Tivo are amazing. My only complaint is lag time between programs. 80 recording hours are not enough, and still don't know how to upgrade HD

5 Star Review great Tivo

Strengths:

record two programs at the same time

Weaknesses:

extra money for wireless adapter

Posted Jan 6, 2008 - we have used it for 2 months. Tivo service is great. setting up the unit is easy. recording two shows at the same time is big plus. However extra money is needed for wireless adapter. All in one, we are happy to have it.

4 Star Review We love Tivo

Strengths:

Dual tuner is actually a big deal, very nice. Great remote, very convenient

Weaknesses:

No HD... it'll be a pain when the signal goes HD next year

Posted Dec 28, 2007 - My family uses the Tivo all the time. We originally had a single tuner, but once you go to the dual tuner, you'll never go back. It's especially helpful if you want to watch a show while recording another. I'm hoping that the HD Tivo drops in price over the next year... it'd be nice to have all the convenience of Tivo with the nice HD picture.
