Buyer Beware - HR10-250 is not Compatible with DirecTV HD Local Channels Plan

Discussion of DIRECTV HR10-250 200 Hour DIRECTV DVR w/ TiVo

Posted May 2, 2006 - DirecTV is currently converting local channels to HD. Some people can receive SOME HD Network feeds (if you qualify), but as the actual local channels come online, you will be disconnected from these feeds and will need an equipment upgrade to 5-LNB dish (Ku/Ka Bands), and MPEG4 capability (HR10-250 is MPEG2). Presently DirecTV does not have a DVR that will operate with the new satellites for locals. The H20 (non-DVR) receiver will work. We have already experienced this transition in the Washington DC area. There is no other information on what other HD programming will be transitioned to the new satellites that I can find...but I wouldn't be surprised to see some Premium channels show up there as well. We have 2 of these units, one purchased recently. I would recomend not buying one of these units until DirecTV gets their act together.
