Ultimate PVR experience for newbies as well as techies
Super simple user interface combined with the flexibility of being able to extend the functionality using a PC backend.
Occasional slowness in response. The directional buttons on the original remote seems to have a mind of its own.
Posted Oct 29, 2007 - I've had this PVR for a couple of weeks now. I bought this to upgrade from my Series 1 that I've had for about 8 years. I do not use this box for HD (although it is capable of it), I transferred my grandfathered Series 1 lifetime subscription to this box. For networking I did not purchase the Tivo branded WiFi card, instead I'm using an old Ethernet-WiFi bridge device that I had from an earlier purchase. Strengths of this box: Super simple User Interface. Flexibility to add functionality with the Tivo Desktop PC S/W running on a PC in your home network. I actually use the Open Galleon server on an Ubuntu PC. You can set up your PC with your home videos, photos etc. so you can watch them on your TV instead of on a computer screen. Podcast and videocast functionality is included and it works great. If you have a decent internet connection you can even start watching these downloads as soon as you start the download. Amazon Unbox movie and TV show downloads are available and especially useful if you happened to miss a TV episode. You can buy the latest episodes for about $2.00 each. Yahoo traffic, weather and photos functionality is included on the box. I'm so impressed with this box that I cannot really think of any real weaknesses.
