5 Star Review Good Camera

Strengths:

Picture clarity, 3.0" LCD, options

Weaknesses:

16MB SD Card

Posted Jun 18, 2006 - I recently purchased this camera as an upgrade for my 2.2 MP HP that I purchased A LONG time ago. As it was the first camera I have purchased in the true digital camera era, I wanted to make sure that I was getting a good camera. I researched many different models and found that this one appeared to be the best one in its price range. I was a little apprehensive about not having a viewfinder, but decided to go with it anyway. I have had it a couple of weeks and love it. Don't worry about not having a viewfinder; the LCD is big & bright enough to see your subject. You will need to upgrade to a larger SD card (1 GB) is your best option so you don't have to continuously transfer photos. The battery charges fully quickly and lasts for a long time (I have not had to recharge mine yet). All in all this is an excellent camera for the money and I highly recommend it.

5 Star Review Great camera overall!

Strengths:

HUGE lcd screen, small and compact

Weaknesses:

Controls a bit small

Posted Jun 11, 2006 - Recently upgrading from an SD400, I absolutely fell in love with the huge lcd. Takes great clear pictures and is small enough to go anywhere. My only complaint are the small controls that may be a bit small for some. Overall, great camera! Remember to buy a case!

4 Star Review Just purchased in April

Strengths:

Beautiful details on the design, High ISO 800, 3" screen

Weaknesses:

No viewfinder, more vulnerable screen, lower battery life due to big screen, pricey compared to other brands.

Posted Apr 12, 2006 - Without any reviews to help me on my decision to purchase this camera, I boldly went ahead and bought it. I first purchased the Canon SD600, an upgrade from my Canon S400 which died only after 2 years of use. I still believe in Canon's picture quality though and wish my older camera would still work. The reason for trading in the SD600 to the SD630 model was more vain than anything. I was a little tired of the old boxy design and loved the added details of this model like the curved edge and the textured lense area. The large viewfinder is a plus with the ebony backing, but I'm afraid it will use up the battery much too fast and might get damaged because it's so large. I suggest always carrying an extra battery with your camera, a lesson I learned long ago. The loss of the viewfinder is a concern, but something I'm willing to forgo since I used the screen 99.9% of the time anyways in my older model. I will update the quality of the pictures and the camera's performance as I use it so stay tuned. So far, only a few test shots were taken. Love the high ISO 800 addition for more natural low/indoor light conditions. I wish I could afford the SD700 which has a stabilizer on top of the ISO 800. I hope this model will last me a long time and will help me capture many important events of my life.

5 Star Review Stunnin little beauty!

Strengths:

3" screen,high quality resolution.Userfriendly controls!

Weaknesses:

16mgb memory, but show me one that comes with more----it's a sales pitch 4more!

Posted Nov 27, 2006 - My first digital canon having finally given up my trusted Eos 500-SLR---gettin 2heavy 2take on hikes or pack away when takin 2the air.Totally impressed by the ability of this tiny pack, so much in there when you come 2manual control.Handles easily, userfriendly passage thru'vast menu of possible shootin modes without being overwhelmed.Need to take your time to find out it's potential, however extremely worthwhile to investigate and experiment!

5 Star Review Love this camera

Strengths:

Great screen, stylish design and good size

Weaknesses:

No viewfinder (but who need a viewfinder if you have a 3" screen)

Posted May 22, 2006 - I owned a Canon S230 before this and have always like Canon camera's picture quality. I really love the great 3" screen of the sd630 which is great for taking and viewing pictures. The pictures qualities are very good. The camera only comes with 16M SD card which you definitely need to upgrade it, a 1G or higher SD card is strongly recommended.

5 Star Review great camera!

Strengths:

amazing picture quality, 3.0 inch LCD screen.

Weaknesses:

need a bigger card (only 16M card come with cemera)

Posted May 5, 2006 - I love this camera. Canon has always been my favorite brand for tiny digital point and shoot cameras, because of it's quality and performance. It takes very nice pictures and good videos too. The battery only lasts about 4 hours when you're taking a lot of pictures. I really enjoyed shooting with the Canon SD 630 Digital ELPH. It takes very nice photos with colors that are spot on. This compact camera feels right and can be easily carried for the spur of the moment snapshots. Overall, I highly recommend this cemara, you will love it too!

5 Star Review great camera in pocket

Strengths:

Big 3 inch screen, great image quality in plenty light, solid-built

Weaknesses:

No ois, screen can be sharper

Posted Jun 8, 2006 - This is a great camera for everyone. It's easy to use. You can use it without reading the manual. I really like the 3 inch screen. I compared SD600 and SD630 in store before I made the decision. The big screen makes eyes more confortable, and makes this camera a great device to show your photos to others. The screen is tough and not easy to scratch. I also like the click wheel control, which can adjust ISO, flash and red eye, navigate and delete pictures. Some people complain the missing optical viewfinder. It's really depends on what you like. I would say only in a rare condition that people will use the optical viewfinder to shoot images, so it is really not a necessary part of a digital camera.

5 Star Review Looks great and girlfriend loves it

Strengths:

Huge 3.0" LCD Size and Portability Image quality ISO 800 User-friendly interface Picture editing on camera

Weaknesses:

No viewfinder Need to remove battery to charge Control to switch between modes Hard to use with one hand-only No preset modes.

Posted Jun 15, 2006 - I bought this camera for my girlfriend and I must say I am very satisfied with this camera. I didn't get use it ask much as I would have liked, but for the short time I did get to use it, I was impressed. I have not owned a Canon camera before, but i was impressed by the quality when using some friend's old SD400 cameras. I have been using a Casio Elixm Z4-U for over 3 years, but the quality of pictures at night was very dismal. Not true about the SD630, infact, some pictures were too bright. One thing I missed on this camera that was on my Casio was the very easy to use pre-stored camera settings. There were over 20 default settings on the Casio that were very easy to access. Maybe I didn't play with the SD630 enough and judged it unfairly, but I did not find these options. I have not used this camera for a whole day yet, so I cannot give a rating about the battery life. Overall, if you want a stylish point-and-shoot camera with good image quality and never use the viewfinder anyways, this is the camera for you.

4 Star Review like this camera a lot.

Strengths:

huge screen, easy to use, canon brand guarantee

Weaknesses:

battery life, no viewfinder

Posted Feb 6, 2007 - I am happy with my recent purchase. I bought it to replace another canon powershot and am very satisfied with the ease of use, the great pictures it takes and how compact it is. Of course you will need to get a memory card with lots of capacity and it might be good to get an extra battery since the battery lifetime is not so good. But these are things most of us buy extra anyway. What I am concerned with is the fact that it has no viewfinder. One would say it is not needed since the screen is a huge 3", however a viewfinder is great for those VERY sunny days when you can't see anything in the screen. It is not the perfect camera, but I got used to liking it a lot.

4 Star Review Decent camera

Strengths:

Nice pictures, good quality image on Macro feature

Weaknesses:

No battery monitor

Posted Jan 15, 2007 - The pictures come out with good quality, but I can't believe there is no indication of the battery charge level, so you never know when the camera will die on you (you do get a couple of minute warning that it's time to charge the battery). I called Canon thinking I was just missing something in the myrid of options, but I was told no compact cameras have that feature. Maybe this is so for Canon, but I previously had a Sony that did.

3 Star Review Good camera but comes with problems

Strengths:

Large LCD, 6.2 MP, many options when takng pictures, beauiful design

Weaknesses:

horrible pictures in lowlight setting

Posted Dec 19, 2006 - True this camera is a beauty to just look at. The large LCD makes it much easier to see your pictures. There is no viewfinder but this wasn't a problem for me because I take pictures using the LCD. The curves in the camera lets it rest comfortably in your hands. I was surprised when no one listed one large problem this camera has. This pictures are absolutely horrible in a lowlight setting. They come out blurry and indistinguishable. Although this camera is beautiful I was actually much happier with the picture quality of my old 3MP SD200 but I guess the LCD won me over. *PLEASE BUY A LCD PROTECTOR FOR ALL THE POWERSHOT MODELS. THEY BREAK EXTREMELY EASILY. INSURANCE WILL NOT COVER THE BREAKAGE. Da' products" have any LCD protectors that are affordable and easy to put on.

4 Star Review Great camera for family

Strengths:

Nice 3' display, great color, stylist look, Ipod like buttons

Weaknesses:

advertised as widescreen compatible, it's actually not when being hooked up with my HDTV.

Posted Jun 13, 2006 - I owns different Canon camera (sd450, sd500 and this sd630). Although this camera is not as strong in megapixel as my sd500, I still have to say that this is one of the best. The wide + large screen is the most catching feature in this camera. Very nice for family use since you dont need a 7 megapixel for your album at all.

4 Star Review Great screen...not so good pics

Strengths:

Stunning screen...Canon reliability, and STUNNING SCREEN!

Weaknesses:

Photo quality a little less that in previous PowerShot cameras

Posted May 17, 2006 - I owned the SD550 7.1MP camera, but fell in love with the screen on the SD630...I figured that I would not miss the picture quality of the 1.1MP less....but it really does make a difference, and the pic quality is a little worse than expected. All in all it is a wonderful camera with 6MP When reviewed on its own merits, it is a wonderful camera, but when compared to others in the family, it is just OK..

5 Star Review "In" way to take pictures

Strengths:

Small size, big screen, Stylish looks

Weaknesses:

No viewfinder, picture is not as sharp as of SD500 or SD400

Posted Jun 27, 2006 - I bought this to replace my SD400, it's only a little larger, but the big screen offers great improvements. Though this is 6M pixel, compares to 4M of SD400, but I found the picture quality is actually not as crisp as SD400's. Also, lack of viewfinder is a little bit tricky when you taking pictures on the sunny beach. After all these, it's a great camera, and you'll be proud to pull it out and shot some since views.

4 Star Review Wonderful camera,

Strengths:

3" lcd, 3x zoom

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Jun 16, 2006 - I got this camera about a week ago now and I couldn't be happier. The 3 inch screen is wonderful. It really helps you take better pictures. If you're worried about not having a view finder, you shouldn't be. This screen is large enough and bright enough that it is easily viewable, even in the sun. The sacrifice of the view finder is well worth it for the screen. Viewing the photos on the camera is really nice and you can even program it to make slide shows with different transitions. I haven't been worried about scratching the screen because I got a sturdy case for it for less than $10. The different shooting modes make it easy to take great photos of whatever you like or if you are a little more experienced, you can adjust the settings yourself. If you're worried about the lack of image stabilizing, I haven't missed it yet and I've been taking lots of pictures. I have never come across a camera I have enjoyed using as much as this one. It is well worth the money.
