EX-Z850 incorporates the eBay Best Shot which allows the user to take photos at a size that is image optimized for display on eBay, allowing picture takers to more quickly and easily create photos for selling items on eBay. eBay Best Shot mode also includes Auto Macro, an ideal setting for capturing images of small items such as jewelry, tags, etc., thus automatically adjusting the focus from acquiring fine details in close up shots to capturing large items from a distance. The EX-Z850 includes the latest version of the EXILIM Engine, featuring the Anti Shake DSP, which considerably reduces the capture of blurred images due to shaky hands or moving subjects, so you only have to worry about which shots to take, not how they will come out. In response to user s high demand, the EX-Z850 s Super Life Battery supports 440 shots per charge, providing convenient, long-lasting usability. Other features on the EX-Z850 include flash functions for a variety of settings and situations, including Rapid Flash, which enables three flash photos in only one second to completely capture a given moment, Soft Flash, which prevents overexposure of subjects photographed up close, and High Power Flash, which ensures that subjects are properly illuminated even when photographed as far away as approximately 39.7 feet. Additionally, when taking high quality long duration MPEG-4 movies, the EX-Z850 instantaneously reduces camera shake electronically. For movies taken in dimly lit environments, the built-in Illumination LED Light provides additional illumination of the subject. minimize

4 Star Review Great Compact Camera

Strengths:

Small size, 8MP, Wide variety of Best Shot modes, Large and bright screen

Weaknesses:

Docking system (need dock to download pictures, no direct USB connection), picture quality (less than expected)

Posted May 17, 2006 - First off, let me tell you that I am in no way a professional or even amateur photographer. I am simply a man who enjoys capturing life moments and some vacation scenery with his camera. With that being said...I purchased this camera as a replacement for my older Kodak EasyShare 5MP camera. It was big and bulky, so I was looking for a smaller camera that I could easily fit in my pocket and carry around. I stumbled upon a great deal on the Casio EXILIM Z850 and thought it would be my perfect camera! The size is definitely what sold me on the camera. I can put it in my pocket and virtually not notice that it's there. Being a male, I don't like to have to carry bags around so this was a great plus. The Best Shot features are bountiful compared to other point and shoot cameras on the market. There is a Best Shot setting for almost any scene I could need to shoot. The zoom is a bit puny, but that is understandable considering the camera's size. One thing that really surprised me, however, was the quality of the pictures that this camera takes. They are quite noisy and tend to be brighter than I would expect using the standard settings (seems like a flash issue). Overall though, the pictures look very good when the image size is brought down to a manageable size. Summary: This camera has a great balance between picture quality, size, and features. I would recommend this camera to my friends.

5 Star Review Casio Exilim EX-Z850

Strengths:

Small size-sturdily built (except for battery cover)-battery life-bright LCD screen.

Weaknesses:

wimpy plastic battery cover.

Posted Sep 22, 2006 - I don't consider less than perfect video to be a fault in such a small camera. If you want great video, get a proper video camera. This tiny camera does most things very well. I remember when cameras weighed 5lb, some of them still do!

5 Star Review Excellent camera

Strengths:

easy menu, Battery life, small size of camera, design, quick shot, steady shot at digital zoom, regular USB cable to connect camera to crandle, excellent charge speed of flash

Weaknesses:

Awfull video, no carrying case, pictures are very much digital feel , nikon 7900 has better quality of colors...

Posted Aug 8, 2006 - Overal it is 5 out of 5 camera in 8 mbpx class for pictures and 2 of 5 for movies, I tried Nikon 7900, different casio's(exz600-terrible in each and every aspect,exS600 -decent, exz750 -the best, I would say even better then exz850). I am very much satisfied with this camera for just everyday use of shoting infinit shots or macro shots.Great camera.

5 Star Review Great little camera

Strengths:

quick shutter speed, nice video, long life on battery

Weaknesses:

Don't like having to use the docking station

Posted Oct 23, 2006 - This is my first Casio camera and so far I'm liking it a lot (I've had 2 Fuji finepix cameras in the past). Love the small size, quick fire up speed, great resolution. I've taken movies and am amazed at the sound quality. Lots of fun to do those. Macro is nice. Surprising how much use that gets. The ID picture feature, which I never thought I would use, has been used a number of times for work things. All in all, a very nice camera and I am enjoying it. Its compact size ensures that it is with me for any picture opportunity that may present itself. I recommend.

5 Star Review Great camera

Strengths:

Small size, 8MP, bright screen, excellent battery life, quick response time, sleek design, durable (I accidentally drop it on a concrete floor, it still works great only with few scratches)

Weaknesses:

high noise at ISO 400 & above, video isn't great (but it is a compact camera what do you expect, so I'm fine with that).

Posted Apr 16, 2007 - Overall I love this camera, had it for 2 years, took it to a lot of places. Before I got the Casio z850 I had the Sony DSC-T7 which is horrible, extreme flash that blast the whole picture, blurred images all the time. Anyway you get my point. I did a lot of research before I bought this camera, it have everything you possibly want for a point and shoot and more. Macro and manual focus works great, nice depth of field pictures. I bought it for $340, it probably sell for a lot cheaper now. It's worth every penny.

4 Star Review Review Casio Z850

Strengths:

Convenient features for a compact camera: rapid on, responsive, bright LCD screen, long battery life, adjustable settings, EX button, easy to use menu system, BS settings

Weaknesses:

Disappointing video quality at HQ mode. Noisy still images at ISO 400 and above.

Posted Apr 10, 2006 - Most commonly used settings such as white balance, image size, ISO and focus, can be displayed in one screen view with the push of one button. Flash is sufficient for most indoor situations, and can fire three times in about a second in continuous mode. There are 30+ optimized "Best Shot" presettings, a convenient feature for P&S users. My first battery charge has given me 300 images plus a few video clips and is still running

3 Star Review TBD- Exilim EX-Z850

Strengths:

Small and Sleek. Anti-Shake works. The extra light is a necessity for shooting pics in the dark. Still pictures come out good. Camera is ready to take pictures almost instaneously when turned on.

Weaknesses:

Difficult to focus. Need to keep holding down and letting go shoot button to get the focus just right. Video mode is inadequate. I believe that part of the camera is made out of aluminum.

Posted Jul 3, 2006 - I would recommend waiting for the firmware update or just try the EX-Z1000, as the video issue is a real bummer. I hope Casio understands that in order to maintain customers and keep them happy, they need to provide the support for their products. A firmware has yet to be released...

5 Star Review Casio Exilim EX-Z850 Review

Strengths:

Compact size, large bright LCD screen, turns on fast, durable quality, 8.1 megapixels, long battery life.

Weaknesses:

Must use cradle to charge and download pictures.

Posted May 8, 2006 - This is a great little camera. It is about the size of an Altoids tin and takes clear pictures. It turns on and is ready to take pictures in about 1 second. I use a 2GB 133x Secure Digital card in this camera and there is virtually no shutter lag. After taking a picture, it is ready to take another in about 1 second. The LCD is bright and easy to see even in bright sunlight. You can take over 300 pictures before needing to recharge the battery. The menus are easy to navigate and I like the added anti-shake feature, which helps in taking clear pictures. It would be nice to be able to charge the camera and download pictures without the cradle, but this is only a minor annoyance. Overall, I would highly suggest this ultra-portable camera. I previously owned (and loved) the 4 megapixel version of this camera. This camera fixes all of the downsides that were apparent in that camera.

5 Star Review Wow what a camera

Strengths:

Full of features, anti-shake, best-shot, Great LCD, Will this battery ever need to be recharged?

Weaknesses:

Wish it would do closer macro shots

Posted Jul 16, 2006 - Bought this camera 2 months ago and took it on a trip around the US. Cradle was stolen from my motel room in Georgia so I thought I'd be dead in the water once the battery died. It's been 2 months and it's still going over 500 pics later. Now if they could just do the same for my laptop. Ordered a new power supply and cradle and they were very reasonably priced. I had some prints made and even the 8 x 10's were phenomenal I will keep this camera for a long time. It's perfect

4 Star Review CASIO Exilim EX-Z850 Digital Camera

Strengths:

High resolution, compact design, long battery life and good movie function.

Weaknesses:

The has only 3x optical zoom and reqires cradle to charge battery and download photos. The connection between camera and cradle seems no so robust.

Posted Apr 29, 2006 - It is a nice camera to have. Compact size makes it convenient for travelling and vacations. Pretty good resolution can capture high quality photos. Price is in a reasonable range.

4 Star Review Casio Exilim EX-Z850 Review

Strengths:

Compact size, excellent battery life, easy to use, bright LCD screen

Weaknesses:

Movie quality disappointing

Posted May 21, 2006 - This is my first digital camera. I was looking for something small, easy to use, but yet powerful, with good battery life, picture quality and movie quality. After some research, I found out about the Casio EX-Z750, which seemed to have everything I wanted. Its picture and video quality was excellent, and it looked as a very nice compact camera. However, I decided to get the EX-Z850 as I assumed this would be an "upgrade" to the previous version. This model has very nice picture quality, but unfortunately the video mode seems to be much worse than the previous model. When I looked at the video samples for the EX-Z750 I was astonished by how good the video looked. But with my EX-Z850, the "high quality" mode is terrible and all grainy, and the "normal" mode looks better than the high quality. Apart from the video, everything else is excellent. The picture quality is impressive, and it is amazing how many details you can capture with this little camera. The battery life is excellent as well. I would recommend this camera to anyone looking for a compact digital camera, which is easy to use but yet powerful with features. However, if you are want to capture excellent videos as well, I would suggest you consider the EX-Z750 instead, as the EX-Z850 is not as good in that aspect.

4 Star Review Packed with features

Strengths:

Convenient features for a compact camera: rapid on, responsive, bright LCD screen, long battery life, adjustable settings, EX button, easy to use menu system, BS settings.

Weaknesses:

Disappointing video quality at HQ mode. Noisy still images at ISO 400 and above.

Posted Apr 2, 2006 - Touch either the on/off switch or camera button turns on this camera within a second. There is very little shutter lag. Clean image at ISO 50 and 100, good at 200. In play mode, LCD display images quickly from frame to frame. The 2.5" LCD is much brighter than most models in this class. Most settings are adjustable through a convenient menu system. Most commonly used settings such as white balance, image size, ISO and focus, can be displayed in one screen view with the push of one button. Flash is sufficient for most indoor situations, and can fire three times in about a second in continuous mode. There are 30+ optimized "Best Shot" presettings, a convenient feature for P&S users. My first battery charge has given me 300 images plus a few video clips and is still running. Video setting at HQ produces grainy images with jagged lines, which are worse than the normal quality setting. For still images, noise is visible at ISO 400 and above. LCD screen resolution is not high enough to display the fine details this 8 MP can produce. Overall, a feature-rich compact camera especially suited for those who often adjust image settings. Video quality needs improvement.

4 Star Review Casio Exilim z850 Review

Strengths:

Compact size, 8 megapixels,mpeg4 movie mode, beautiful screen, optical viewfinder, easy menus, battery life, anti-shake.

Weaknesses:

No direct usb connection from camera to computer (must use dock), shutter speed for action shots.

Posted May 2, 2006 - Very satisfied with this compact camera. Smaller than my previous Casio z120. I love the 8 megapixels and movie mode. Gorgeous bright, big screen, viewable in direct sunlight. Menu is easy to navigate and includes some interesting modes, illustration mode is something I am playing with now, it makes everything seem like it was drawn as a picture!! The only thing I don't like is that they got rid of the usb connection on the camera so you need the dock to load your pictures into your computer or to view them on your TV. The batteries are also not AA so you must charge the camera on the dock, they do last much longer than AA however so there is a tradeoff. If you are willing to lug around the dock to view and transfer your pictures while on the go then this camera will not dissapoint you.

Posted Jun 2, 2006 - I wanted a small portable camera and the z850 had the best reviews. Got a good deal on Buy.com and took it on a road trip last weekend. Took over 700 photos on a 2gb card and the battery never needed to be changed. It is a good camera.
