When you pick up the compact Photosmart R927, you'll notice two things right off: its giant, bright display (3 inches across) on the back, and how perfectly this camera fits in your hands (you won't want to put it down). The durable, metal-bodied R927 showcases HP's great technology, boasting 8.2 megapixels of brilliant photo power and 24x total zoom (3 x optical, 8x digital). So get ready to dazzle your friends and family! Crystal clear, awesome photos are yours for the taking. minimize

5 Star Review Good replacement to Photosmart r707

Strengths:

Lots of features, large LCD, takes great pictures!

Weaknesses:

No viewfinder

Posted Aug 16, 2006 - I bought this camera to replace an HP r707 that was left outside in the rain. This camera is very similar but with some great upgrades. It has a few more features in terms of "mode" settings, and has a much larger screen which is very easy to see- great for showing others your pictures in-camera, and it's 8 megapixels instead of 5 like the r707. It also seems to hold more pictures in the highest 8 MP setting than in my r707's 5 MP setting. In order to get the highest quality, you have to create a custom setting to select 8 MP **** (4 stars). This has the least compression, but really doesn't seem to add much to the processing time. It does effect the # of pics you can take though- I get about 220 on my 1 GB card, which is plenty for me. Overall it's a great camera- I've only had HP Cameras and haven't had any complaints- I've gone from 3 MP, to 5 MP, to now 8 MP photosmart models and will probably stick with this one for a very long time- as long as it doesn't get left in the rain!

3 Star Review HP Photosmart R927 Digital Camera

Strengths:

Great resolution (8.2MP), sleek body, large 3 inch screen.

Weaknesses:

Some noise, can only be charged though the dock, same with transferring images.

Posted Dec 5, 2006 - Well this camera has lots of good features right off the bat, like the large 3 inch LCD and 8.2 megapixels. The body feels nice in your hand too. The big problem is that to charge the camera or transfer pictures, you have to go through the dock. The actual camera does not have a USB connection, only a port for the dock. The picture quality is a little so-so also, lots of noise. Overall the camera is ok, not very good for someone who is semi-professional.

4 Star Review HP R927 Digital Camera

Strengths:

Good color, very easy to use, large view screen, good pictures (still and video), informative menus and only weighs 8 ounces with battery and card installed.

Weaknesses:

When taking a picture the view screen is very grainy. This is not so when viewing pictures that have been taken. Very hard to hold steady when in telephoto mode.

Posted May 4, 2007 - I have played with the camera quite a bit since receiving it. The only real draw back about the camera I received is the sound level when recording a video. One other thing. You really need to rest the camera on a solid base or use a tripod in telephoto mode. Other than that I am pleased with the camera.

5 Star Review awsome price, great camera!

Strengths:

Instruction & menual in the camera, phtoto editing function in the camera, big & bright LCD

Weaknesses:

very slow in the darkness, fast battery consuming

Posted Apr 9, 2007 - I got this camera for my boyfriend before, he absolutely loves it. The best thing about this camera is that it has instruction in the camera..you don't need to find your paper instruction when you have a question about functions. Also, it tells you how to fix your pictures for better qualities by different settings.. Plus, it has photoshop function in the camera, so that you don't need to transfer your picture to computer..you can just edit your photo right after you took the photo. It has many options and I think it is great function for people who are not familiar with photoshop and illustration. One bad thing about the camera so far is it takes very slow picture when it is dark.. very slow.. but this problem could be simply solved by using your flash or change your setting from night mode to something else.. (also, I think most digital camera has this problem..) Battery consuming is little faster than other digital camera, but when I concern how big & bright the LCD screen is..it is understandable. (I purchased second battery with wall charger) This is great camera for people who want to learn how to take great picture. Also, I think the price is awesome for the quality of the camera.. I am getting one more of this camera for my mom.

1 Star Review Some good features, but some major dealbreakers.

Strengths:

FAST startup time, great in-camera features for cleaning up photos & applying effects to them, gorgeous large screen (with instructions in full english sentences), intuitive interface & buttons.

Weaknesses:

Weak flash, takes dark photos, flash is in awkward spot, requires the included dock (2-pieces, fragile, and requires 3 cables) to charge the battery & to connect to a computer.

Posted Dec 16, 2006 - This is not a digital camera that I would really recommend to anybody. Although there are a few good features, there are some MAJOR dealbreakers with this camera. Then again, what would you expect from a company that specializes in printers, not digital cameras? First, the good news: 1. Incredibly fast. You can take a photo in less than 1 second of turning this camera on. I have not seen this with any other digital cameras on the market. It is also ready to take additional photos almost instantaneously after taking the previous photos. Very nice speed. 2. Beautiful large gorgeous screen, with full-text paragraphs explaining key features of the camera. This is is so invaluable. Now the bad news: 1. Notice where the flash is located -- it is RIGHT UNDERNEATH the shutter button that you press every time you want to take a photo. What this means is that your right hand will almost always be blocking the flash when it goes off, unless you are CONSCIOUSLY AWARE about twisting your fingers & your hand to NOT block the flash. 2. The flash is NOT POWERFUL at all... it can barely light up an object that is 5 feet away. And unlike most other digital cameras on the market, there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to alter the brightness of the flash. 3. Because the flash is not powerful at all, ALL indoor pictures come out EXTREMELY DARK and nighttime pictures outside are completely out-of-the-question. This has not happened with any of my other digital cameras that I have owned -- this if the first camera that is completely disappointing in these regards. This makes this camera basically unusable to us. We took 3 photos side-by-side with 2 other digital cameras in the same indoor room, and the other cameras resulted in clear, bright photos. Not this one. This one's photos came out dark & unusable. 4. You're not going to believe this, but you can NOT download your photos from this digital camera to your computer without lugging along the 4-piece DOCK that comes with the camera!!! That's right -- you have to log along a 4-piece Dock (one plastic mounting piece, one plastic docking station, and 2 power cables)! I have never seen another digital camera like this before! You can not simply bring along a tiny USB cable to connect this to your computer, so it makes this camera much less portable than any other digital camera on the market. 5. Furthermore, you also can not recharge the battery in this camera without lugging along the 4-piece dock as well. Unless you're interested in purchasing a $80 battery recharger kit for this camera that they sell at Best Buy & other electronics stores, you will be stuck lugging along this 4-piece dock with you wherever you go. 6. If you're planning on using the built-in videocamera to take videos, prepare for your videos to be jerky & dimly lit. Granted, this isn't a dedicated videocamera, but still, I've seen better video quality from other digital cameras on the market. 7. And finally, even if you were to ignore everything else above, it all comes down to how good your photos are, right? Well, unfortunately, this camera's photos are not sharp at all -- all images come out very soft. I can not recommend this camera to anyone, and I'm sad that I bought it for myself.

4 Star Review Nice 3" LCD screen, great quality pictures

Strengths:

3" LCD screen is great for folks with poor vision or who just like a large screen.

Weaknesses:

Battery life is unimpressive.

Posted Dec 4, 2006 - I only considered this because it has a 3" LCD & I needed a digicam with this large screen size. There aren't too many other non-SLR, relatively inexpensive cams with this feature so that automatically limited the field of options. I decided to go with this over a comparable Canon model based on reviews & the fact that I've had multiple HP cams in the past & have never had any issues with them. This cam takes above-average quality pictures. It has a plethora of options available that make taking great photos a breeze, as well as a lot of more advanced options I've not yet bothered to explore. The flash is weaker than average but does not seem to affect picture quality overmuch. My only real complaint is the battery life, which is below average, and the fact that recharging requires the bulky charger. This could be problematic for travelers but is not in my case. I would recommend this camera to anyone who wants a 3" LCD screen, but there are better options if you don't mind a smaller screen.

5 Star Review HP Photosmart R927 - 8.2MP - One of the best overall digital point and shoot cameras

Strengths:

This model is very sleek in design and has, by far, the best overall image quality for 4x6's all the way up to large poster sizes. You'll never guess that this camera takes such great pictures

Weaknesses:

There are definitely a lot of features and if you are not a tech and gadget savvy person, this may not be the best camera for you. It looks simple, but there is a lot more to this camera.

Posted Nov 24, 2006 - This is a camera that has some spectacular photo quality to it. I am a film camera person and swore to never use a digital camera because of the low quality, but this camera in particular made me change my mind. I have used this camera at my friends place and it is quite impressive. With such simple style and design, it appears to be a very plain camera with not much until you get into the many features this camera has. The large screen makes it really easy to view the pictures and the depth of the digital quality makes this a true to life camera. If you are a film SLR user, this camera just might change the way you think about digital cameras. I highly recommend this camera to anyone wanting crisp and brilliant picture quality.

4 Star Review HP R927

Strengths:

Vivid images, larger LCD, dock

Weaknesses:

long processing time

Posted Nov 18, 2007 - The camera over-all is great. It takes amazing pictures and the large LCD screen makes it easy for you to see the picture you have taken. The camera also has a lot of built in photo editing features, like slimming, cartoon, and others. The one major drawback is the long processing time in between pictures. If you only plan on taking still shots of adults then its no big deal but if you need to take a few pictures rapidly this camera will disappoint
