3 Star Review Hit and Miss.

Strengths:

Fast shots, compact design, ease of use.

Weaknesses:

White spots all over indoor and outdoor night photos, grainy zoom shots, expensive.

Posted Dec 25, 2006 - O.k., why didn't any of the reviewers mention that the flash proximity to the lense causes ghost spots all over any photos taken with the flash? There is even a reference to this in the manual and the user is told this is "normal" and not a malfunction of the camera. Normal to have spots all over indoor and outdoor night photos? Great. This is caused by small specs of dust and lint in the air being reflected back to the lens as a result of the flash being too close to the lens. Sony claims an optical zoom, but if this is the case, why are zoom photos so grainy? I don't buy it. Either it is in fact a crappy digital zoom or something else is amiss with this camera in zoom mode. I researched for weeks before deciding on the Sony, and not once did anyone mention the damn spots all over the flash shots, nor did they mention the grainy "optical" zoom shots. This even though Sony admits to it.

4 Star Review DSC-T30

Strengths:

large screen, slim design, easy to use &antiblur!!

Weaknesses:

lcd gets fingerprinty, no viewfinder

Posted Jul 28, 2006 - price grabber helped me find this camera at the lowest price, so i thought what the heck. I've been waiting for this camera to go down a bit in price b/c $500 was a little too steep for me. Overall though i love the sleek design and its ease of use. I had a sony camera before that was wayyy long overdue for an upgrade and this seemed to be the right one. With 7.2 MP & a large 3" lcd screen [so i dont have to squint] it suits me perfectly. & its still slim enough to carry around tho not as slim as its the other previous T models. Only thing i found was missing was that theres no viewfinder. The n-1 has one as well as the others but this one doesnt. I guess thats why the made the screen 1/2" bigger than the n1.

5 Star Review Review the product (Cyber-shot DSC-T30 Digital Camera - Silver (7.2MP, 3x Opt, 58MB Internal Memory, Memory Stick Pro/Memory Stick Pro Duo)) you recently purchased

Strengths:

Fantastic screen size and clarity. High quality lens = pictures.

Weaknesses:

Almost does too much - will take time to learn every capability.

Posted Sep 5, 2006 - Overall the camera is a winner. Small size but large in capability and quality. Would prefer that it would come with memory stick as the internal memory is inadequate. The 3" screen is ideal for photo shooting (for the sight challenged) and reviewing photos. Highly recommended.

4 Star Review The Fun & Sexy Sony Cybershot DSC-T30

Strengths:

Huge, immense screen, good screen resolution & color. Ability to zoom when in filming mode. Compact, easy to use, and long battery life (3 to 4 hrs for picture taking!). 4 slide show modes add fun.

Weaknesses:

Frequent red eye when taking closeups in dark settings (I don't use red eye stutter mode when taking pics). Circular button pad and buttons near it are a little too closely bunched.

Posted Aug 29, 2006 - I was attracted by the beauty of the screen, the ability to zoom when recording short films, it's compactness, ease of use, and extra long battery life. Overall, this is a very fun to use compact/multi-purpose/travel camera. Start-up time is very quick and charge time between shots is fairly quick. The red eye pops up more often than desired when I'm taking dark candid closeup indoor pictures, but that can be edited out easily with red eye remover. A minor thing, but the circle pad and nearby buttons are not spaced out as well as previous Sony T or P models. I don't know if this is because of the screen configuration or what. The ISO 1000 mode comes in handy when I want to take closeups of indoor still items in macro zoom mode. There is some noise (depending on how well lit the area is), but overall I'm happy with those picture results. If the red eye thing really bugs you (probably due to flash being set too close to the lens), then don't get this camera. If you don't mind occasional red eye, then this camera will serve all your other needs well if you're looking for a compact. Also... the screen does not turn off... so if you're shooting from the hip in a secret location... it's a bit harder to get away with that unless you hide the screen.

4 Star Review Sony Cybershot T-30 Camera

Strengths:

Elegant design. Big 3.0 LCD screen. Has Steadyshot function

Weaknesses:

the software interface is not as fanzy as other brands like Canon/Casio. Camera is still too big compare to its predecessors such as T5, T7 and T9.

Posted May 26, 2006 - Overall, I love its design and the shots it took. They are crisp and sharp. The steadyshot function is pretty cool and it takes moving objects pretty well. However, due to the size of the screen, you can make it dirty with finger prints easily. Sony should work hard on its software interface because black and white is definitly not gonna catch my attention. Nonetheless, i like this camera although it is pretty expansive.

5 Star Review Amazing little camera

Strengths:

Sharp pics, image stabilization, large LCD.

Weaknesses:

Sliding cover, thumbprints.

Posted Jun 24, 2006 - Really an amazing package in this little camera. Such sharp pictures, great battery life, image stabilization, gorgeous LCD, just all around great. The only cons are -- I am not a fan of the sliding lens cover design, I much rather have a mechanical lens cover. Plus that large LCD is a magnet for fingerprints.

5 Star Review Sony t-30

Strengths:

Very small and easy to use, no brain work needed, great quality with very little work.

Weaknesses:

Price is thru the roof $500 is alot, waiting for price to drop, no spare parts come with the unit, no cradle, case, even extra memory stick.

Posted May 17, 2006 - Overall, the unit is amzaing, nice to view pics while listing to music, very intertaing. I did not even need to use the manual to use this unit, once you use once cybershot all of them are the same.

4 Star Review A good camera

Strengths:

3" LCD, Long life battery, nice simple design, very easy to use.

Weaknesses:

Black colour can have finger marks on it very easy, some nosie for indoor shots, no case, software is not the powerfull and no view finder.

Posted Jun 6, 2006 - I got the black colour and it is very nice but can get marks on it easy. I got my T30 in Hong Kong for $430 US and I got free Sony 1GB MS pro duo, free case, free tripod and a free screen protector ( you will need this because it is a big screen). no one has sound any thing about the view finder!! There is not a view finder so if the LCD don't work then you can not take photos any more this is the main bad thing about the T30. over all it is a good camera to buy in Hong Kong because of the free things

4 Star Review Practical, Versatile and Compact - Sony Cyber-Shot T-30 digital camera

Strengths:

Big 3.0” LCD screen with Steady Shot function and the camera is practical to use. Longer battery life makes life easier. It has nice slid show feature. Nice touch and looking.

Weaknesses:

Too pricy for an everyday camera (I paid $460+S&H $15 on May 3 from B&H). Cover for the battery & memory stick is flimsy plastic. No slow motion replay in movie side. Camera is thicker than I would like to have. The user’s manual could be better written.

Posted Jun 4, 2006 - Overall, it has very nice design and takes very good pictures. No problem to hold or to take pictures. It would have been nicer if it is thinner like T9 or Casio Exilim Ex-Z600 or S600 (no steady shots). Easy to use and produces very good pictures. It made my two weeks South America vacation pleasant. What would you ask more?

1 Star Review A Flaw in Its Auto ISO System

Strengths:

Good photo quality, ease to use, long lasting battery, image stablizer extremely useful.

Weaknesses:

Auto ISO (full auto or program + auto ISO) never uses 80 and 100, even lighting is sufficient, resulting in unnecessarily increased noise level. Besides, big and clumsy body compared with T9.

Posted Jul 30, 2006 - Despite its strength, the camera has a critical design/manufacture flaw in its auto exposure system, that it never uses its available low ISO levels (80 and 100) in auto mode (either full auto or auto ISO), even if the shot is taken in good lighting condition such as outdoor in a clear afternoon. Consequently, the automatic mode becomes useless if one wishes to take a smooth picture of a well illuminated scene, since the lowest ISO level (125) that the camera would automatically chose yields quite noticeable amount of noise (much higher than the optimal 80). I give it 1 star because this auto ISO flaw is complete intolerable for me. Nonetheless, for those who do not mind the noise or prefer manual settings anyway, this could still be a good camera.

1 Star Review horrible camera

Strengths:

none

Weaknesses:

impossible to hold. poor photos. sony is an evil company.

Posted May 24, 2006 - Due to its poor design it is impossible to hold. After one month of easy use it fell apart, (literaly). sony wanted nothing to do with it. takes bad phots, no night shooting at all, and Sony weasled their way out of legitemit warrentys. i will never buy another sony product again.

3 Star Review Almost Very Nice

Strengths:

Large screen, image stabilization, nice pictures.

Weaknesses:

Focus ability.

Posted Aug 28, 2006 - I liked the image stabilization. Compared to my DSC-W50 it would take clearer shots. The large screen is beautiful and great for showing your pictures to others. It is not a super small camera. The body is a bit wide (also compared to the W50). This helps fit the large screen but didn't bother me. I didn't miss a view-finder at all--never used it on other cameras and prefer the design without it. It has the ability to use the zoom while taking video which is nice and not seen in other cameras I've used. The audio quality of the video is very good in loud (night club) settings. I had a Canon before which suffered from distorted sound in loud settings. My main problem with the camera was that of focus while taking video. Several times it would hunt for focus while pointed at a distant object such as trees. The image would alternate between focus and blur. I don't know if it was just my one camera or a design problem. Had to use manual options for fixed focal distance to avoid it. Returned the camera because of this. Also, another minor thing, the lens is very close to the edge of the camera where you want to hold it with a second hand. Many users would get a finger in the edge of the picture until one got used to holding it to avoid such. Never a problem with other cameras I had where the lens was more centered.
