4 Star Review A340

Strengths:

Very colorful pictures, easy to use.

Weaknesses:

Lag time inbetween shots.

Posted Jun 19, 2006 - I took this camera to the Philippines and when I showed my friends the pictures they all asked what kind of camera I had. My only bad experience is my wife's daughter used the camera and lost the XD card. I bought a new XD card and I was getting a "Write Error" and "Card not intialized" I formatted the card, same errors. I brought camera and card to Best Buy and they said my options were to send it in for $160 to get fixed or buy a new one and throw this one away. I went home and checked out the fuji website and found out all I had to do is update the firmwear so it would reconize the Type H memory card.

Strengths:

For its price and picture resolution this is an excellent product. Battery life even with AA alkaline cells is good.

Weaknesses:

The lens cover which is also the on/off switch is somewhat inconvenient to use. When turning the camera off it hits the lens barrel to initiate retraction.

Posted Aug 21, 2004 - The camera quick start manual was enough to get to know the essential features. We were up and running within 15 minutes of opening the package. At normal resolution and with flash operating the color quality and contrast seemed to be somewhat below what would qualify as being excellent. Outdoor shots were excellent. There are many features that one has to learn to use by reading the detailed manual. Overall it is a great camera.

Strengths:

Light, easy to use, nice for first digital camera.

Weaknesses:

none yet, but if you want to store pictures with more megapixels, you might want to get a bigger memory card.

Posted Jan 3, 2005 - Great little camera! Haven't had any trouble with it yet. I used it on my trip to New York City, and I got great shots! Its easy to put them on your computer, too! I'm glad I got it.

Posted Oct 16, 2004 - I did a lot of comparisons in teh 4 megapixel arena and this Fuji gives you so many extras for the lowest price. It's a bargain at this price and with technology advancing so rapidly, it allows you to buy now and upgrade later without the big investment.

Strengths:

Weaknesses:

Batteries don't last very long, but they don't in other digital cameras either

Posted Oct 1, 2004 - Overall, this product is great for a first-timer. I have no experience with digital cameras, but I was able to use and operate it easily. For the most part, I was able to perform most functions on the camera, not using the instructions. Great purchase with a great price.

Strengths:

Picture Quality in Bright and Moderate Lighting, Ease of Use, Comfort Grip and Right Size, Battery Life, Price

Weaknesses:

Slow Shutter Speed, Night Shots Blur even with its Night Modes

Posted Jan 27, 2005 - I first owned the Fuji Finepix 3800 and loved it until some lady ran into me in NYC and bumped my camera. It didn't fall to the ground or anything but the lens did not move and I could not turn it on. So why would I buy another Fuji? Basically, I had 3 XD Picture Cards and didn't want to change media. So I bought this entry level Fuji at 4 megapixels (the A330 is cheaper but I figure let's move up.) Overall, the picture quality is on par with the 3800. However, night shots are poor and blurry. I tried the night shot modes and they're no help. The 3x zoom is just average compared to the 6x I had with the 3800. Maybe I shouldn't compare the models since the 3800 is considered more of an entry-level professional digicam. But that's why I like this Fuji so much. At $160, the A340 is a bargain and qaulity of photos are comparable to more expensive cams. The really disappointment is the shutter speed which is verrrrry slow. I'm worried that I won't be able to take rapid-fire shots with this cam. The flash also takes time to recharge so this will also slow things down. Although this cam is not the most stylish, it is very practical and functional. Simply, it works and it works pretty darn good for the price. Lastly, this cam only uses 2 AA batteries and lasts long. I still suggest rechargeables but you can go at least 4-5 hours on the 2 alone with using the LCD viewfinder. This is a camera I would recommend for those who want a good functioning and performing camera.

Strengths:

Easy to use, functional, great point an shoot

Weaknesses:

Doesn't have a recargable battery standard

Posted Feb 4, 2005 - I bought this camera for my daughter as a gift. She was up and running in 10 minutes and taking pictures with ease. I was pleased that the camera is not 100% plastic and seems to be well constructed. It is also very light weight. I have looked at several cameras in this price range and found this one to be an excellent value, and also highly rated by owners on other online review sites. I would recommend this camera for a good starter digital camera or a nice point and shoot to take with you everywhere!

Posted Dec 30, 2004 - Good optical zoom, A good camera for a starter.should come with more memmory atleast 256 mb so that we can store more pictures. Also the auto focus takes bigger background instead on zooming the object on focus, but the clarity is pretty good and it is easy to use

Strengths:

Compact, easy to use, good looking, only needs 2 batteries, fast startup, good flash control, lens protected by sliding cover, dust resistant

Weaknesses:

Hard to get a shot that isn't blurry, tends to shoot dark

Posted Jan 1, 2005 - I had Fuji cameras for work (2.0 megapixel A210?) and it was a great camera. Bought this one and although i like alot about the camera, it really hurts it that you have a hard time taking a shot that isn't blurry. I really like alot about the camera, but this really spoils things... so much so I may trade up to a Canon A85. Thats too bad - the A210 was a great camera... will give this one more time but feeling like itsa goin back...

Strengths:

Fast

Weaknesses:

Otherwise a mediocre camera

Posted Jun 8, 2005 - This camera is definitely not for the pro user, and not for the novice either. It uses XD cards, which make it fast, but there are better XD cameras. It doesn't have enough features for pros to be interested, and it's barely enough for the novice user. This is not to mention the high cost of XD media, which greatly outweighs their benefits to the average user.

4 Star Review Good Camera

Strengths:

Great for the price, many features, easy to use.

Weaknesses:

You may need to update the firmware in order to use some of the newer xD Cards, but other than that no porblem. The cover being the on/off switch isn't a problem.

Posted Jan 2, 2006 - This is a great camera. Extremely good for the money. I bought the store demo, and I am perfectly happy with it. Great features, including the web cam feature which is nice. Also has a cable to connect it to a TV! 4MP, 3x optical zoom, and under $150 that is GREAT!

5 Star Review I love this camera!

Strengths:

Durable, surprisingly good image quality for the price, good battery life, easy to use menus

Weaknesses:

Pretty slow recycling time after flash, not great with low lighting without flash, lens cover can be pretty irritating when closing the camera

Posted Dec 26, 2005 - This was my second digital camera, and so far my favorite. It has survived my daughter (now 2) playing with it, countless drops, bangs, and beach trips. A couple of months ago I had to upgrade the firmware to support the m series xD chips, which caused some minor irritation but is now working perfectly. I have had a lot of fun with this camera. I've gotten some stunning photographs with it, especailly some breathtaking shots while visiting Alaska. I've also gotten some adorable spontanious portraits of my kids. Again, low lighting is my biggest beef with the imaging. It also has trouble accurately displaying some shades of red (supersaturates them), but I've only noticed that on two occasions, and was using the flash both times. My second biggest complaint about this camera is the time it takes to reset for the next shot. Granted, I'm only complaining at times where I'm trying to get a quick series of action shots, but I've also used much slower cameras. The casual user probably wouldn't notice this issue, to be honest. On the whole, this is a wonderful camera that I'm planning on keeping for a long time, even though I've just upgraded to the E900. I have a feeling that this will continue to be my everyday camera, and am already teaching my daughter to use it herself.

4 Star Review Fuji a340

Strengths:

Bright, saturated colors. Good sharpness and shooting performance.

Weaknesses:

No continuous shooting mode, weak flash, doesn't have a good wide angle (starts at 38mm)

Posted Sep 15, 2005 - This is a nice digital camera for a beginner. With 4 megapixels and 3X zoom, you have a good deal of flexibility taking and printing your shots. Photo quality is quite good. Pictures are sharp, with bright, saturated colors. Actually, the colors are brighter and saturated then the should be at times, but this usually makes for pleasing (if slightly inacucurate) images. For a beginner this may be a good thing. The 3X zoom lens starts at a not-very-wide 38mm. Taking wide scenery photographs or large group photographs may not be possible. The flash isn't very strong - you may get 10 feet of flash coverage. AS a result, this isn't a great camera for indoor use; it is much more suited for outdoor daylight pictures.

4 Star Review Good camera

Strengths:

Compact; inexpensive

Weaknesses:

expensive flash card

Posted Sep 5, 2005 - I’ve had this camera for about 4 months. I absolutely love it. It’s one of the best inexpensive cameras I’ve ever had. It’s compact, yet it still has optical zoom. And it uses only 2 AA batteries. Only thing I like the least is that it uses xD card which is relatively expensive compared to CF or SD cards.
