Overall good camera
Strengths: Image quality, compact size, large LCD
Weaknesses: AA batteries; unable to zoom in on pictures and save them as adjusted on the camera, must do it on PC.
Summary: This camera has excellent image quality. Although it uses Memory Stick, black Friday sales had memory sticks at very reasonable prices, comparable to SD memory. The dial selector for different picture modes is easier and faster than having to scroll through on-screen menus.

Sony DSC-S700
Strengths: Small size, uses only 2 AA batteries instead of more expensive proprietary batteries, 2.4 inch LCD screen, 7.2 megapixels, and very easy to use
Weaknesses: The video quality is not the greatest, uses more expensive Memory Stick Pro Duo cards (but these are continuously dropping in price)
Summary: For the price, this is a great camera. It takes really nice pictures, and like most Sony cameras, it is really easy to use. I would recommend investing in a decent set of rechargeable AA batteries, however. The camera starts up quickly and has a lot of nice features. This camera is a great value.

great high resolution pictures
Strengths: full featured compact sized with nice
zoom and features.
Weaknesses: slow response between shooting pictures.
Summary: as with all sonys memorysticks are required and
cost is more than other memory cards. the thickness
of the camera is a little more than others. the
nice resolution, price and ease of use makes this sony
digital camera a good value! the quality of the
body seems a little below what one would expect from]
sony. inspite of these problems the pictures are good
and the prints turn out very good.

Sony DSC-S700 Great camera great price
Strengths: easy to use, pocket size, uses only AA batteries, 2.4 inch LCD screen, 7.2 megapixels
Weaknesses: Slow response time between pictures, movie settings are lacking
Summary: The Sony DSC-S700 camera is easy to use entry level camera.
With 7.2 megapixels, users can enjoy taking high quality pictures and printing pictures at home.
The camera uses 2 AA batteries which are widely available. Rechargable batteries are recommended.
The camera does have a movie mode, but don't expect high quality movie clips.
This is a great affordable camera and great for new users or point and click users.

Great Camera - Great Price
Strengths: Picture Quality
Weaknesses: Weight
Summary: The DCS-S700 takes great pictures right out of the box. I added some additional memory and was able to take many pictures during a vacation. The camera took the pictures quickly and were very crisp and clear when uploaded. Great camera for the price.

Sony CyberShot DSC-S700 Digital Camera
Strengths: Compact, easy to use
Weaknesses: Memory stick
Summary: It is a compact, easy to handle camera with internal memory and large 2.4" LCD. But as all sony stuffs, it uses memory stick which is always expensive. So unless you already have a memory stick on hand, don't buy this. Or you have to pay a lot extra for the memory.

Value for Money!
Strengths: Price, Solid, Stable
Weaknesses: No digital zoom
Summary: Great Camera for the price. So far I have not had any problems with it and it takes great sharp pictures. It does not have digital zoom though, but I don't use digital zoom anyway, it makes the picture less sharp and may even get pixelated. This camera is easy to use turn it on point and shoot. I believe the Sony DSC-S700 is a great camera for the money and a wonderful gift for the amateur photographer in your family who just wants to capture the moment.

Very nice camera
Strengths: Extremely easy to use, manual is not needed for experienced amateur. "Green" icon shots are easy for anyone. Prints of outdoor shots are excellent+.
Weaknesses: Startup could be faster. Flash photos are slightly overexposed even when set to "-". Background indoor shots sometimes underexposed, "slow synchro" not good. Macro shots not focused well.
Summary: "Disappears" in cargo pocket. Batteries are not a problem. Screen difficult to see outdoors--common for camera type. Limited user adjustable features are extremely easy to use. Battery/card cover accidently opened one time, batteries popped out. Sony Picture Motion is easy to use. Weaknesses listed above are minor.

Ok camera not the best
Strengths: 7.2 Pixel, 2.4 LCD, AA batteries.
Weaknesses: autofocus, slow timing, bulky, built in memory
Summary: Eh not much to say about this camera, it isn't the best out there but was able to buy it for $120 on sale, retail was $230 back then. The 7.2 megapixel with the 2.4 LCD bright screen and are the only really great things I like about it, my girlfriend likes the fact that it uses AA batteries but i'm not so found of that. As others said the timing between pictures is slow, and autofocus is horrible. Most of the camera's built in memory is 32MB why this one is only 24MB is beyond me. 3 out of 5

Excellent shots for the price
Strengths: Excellent shots, portability
Weaknesses: Optical zoom, Memory usage, battery backup
Summary: Bought this on thanksgiving at a very nominal price for my dad. Works best in daylight. Night mode does not work that best. Ecellent shots with image stability. No shake and red-eye. However, at max zoom in night mode, the images are little blurred and have lot of shake. Well, that seems common with all portable cameras at this resolution. Much better than a similar spec Fuji or Cannon. You must have a huge memory stick to store the data in for 7 mp pics. Batter goes out soom with continuous flash.

CyberShot DSC-700
Strengths: compact 7m plus pix
Weaknesses: Very poor contrast. Extreme shutter lag. No viewfinder.LCD display useless in sunlight
Summary: This was suppose to be an upgrade over my DC-240 Kodak purchased 9 years ago. (1.3 MP). The old boat anchor produces a much better photo. Contrast is very poor, center point focusing not accurate, LCD display is totally useless with even the smallest amount of sunlight outdoors. Shutter lag is absolutely objectionable. Video function can only be described as a childish toy. As a gift it was a nice gesture but doesn't even come close to the 10 year old Kodak. Shame on Sony for putting their name on this!

Good, cheap camera
Strengths: Its very cheap. Small size and big screen.
Weaknesses: You get what you pay for.
Summary: I got it as a gift. Person wanted a small, compact digital camera. This is a great basic camera to snap pics of friends and stuff. Do not expect to get DSLR quality shots, but for the money, I am happy.

good in picture, weak in video
Strengths: picture quality is good, many functions to set, especially good in room.
Weaknesses: video quality is poor, if you want a somehow reasonable quality for your home video, avoid this camera.
Summary: Generally speaking, the picture quality is the same as the previous models of sony I had, and it is superior than the same level canon's. Especially good is for in house picture, sony made improvement, now I can take in-house picture without flash, but still in good quality. However the video quality is so poor, 320x240 is such poor resolution that you can not even see clearly from the laptop.

Good bang for the buck
Strengths: Size, resolution, ease of use, non-proprietary batteries, large LCD screen, decent zoom
Weaknesses: Doesn't use SD cards
Summary: 2008-01-05 17:57:33 This camera packs a lot of value for the price. It's a great choice for beginners who want something compact that will fit in a pocket and that will also take good pictures without a lot of fuss and fumbling. The ability to use AA batteries is a huge plus in my opinion, as AAs are widely available (get AAs that can be recharged). I wish it used widely available and very common SD memory, but I understand why Sony wants to promote their own format.
