3.5 Star ReviewCanon EOS 40D (body only)

Posted Sep 20, 2007 - THE GOOD: Generally superior shooting speed among dSLRs; first-rate photo quality. THE BAD: Large spot size for spot meter; relatively sluggish low-light focus. THE BOTTOM LINE: Great photo quality and excellent continuous-shooting performance are just two of the Canon EOS 40Ds many attractions in the digital camera marketplace. - Read Full Review

5 Star ReviewCanon EOS 40D Digital Camera Review

Posted Dec 21, 2007 - A year and a half in the making, Canon’s EOS 40D modifies the foundation set by the EOS 30D and 20D, while incorporating elements from the manufacturer’s 1D line. The camera is centered on a 10.1-megapixel APS-C-sized CMOS sensor, paired with a newly developed DIGIC III image processor, which boosts the continuous burst speed up to 6.5 frames per second. Mechanical improvements include a renovated autofocus system with 9 cross-type sensors, and the addition of Canon’s Integrated Cleaning System (dust reduction). Additional weatherproofing has been applied around the base plate and compartment doors, and a large 3-inch Live View LCD screen is affixed to the camera body. Canon also worked in Silent Shooting modes, sRAW files, and a revamped menu structure. The 40D is offered in various kits, ranging in price from $1,299 to $1,799, depending on the packaged lens. - Read Full Review

5 Star ReviewDCRP Review: Canon EOS-40D

Posted Oct 25, 2007 - It's hard not to like the Canon EOS-40D. It's a digital SLR that does just about everything you could possibly want -- and it does them all well. While it remains to be seen how it will compare to new offerings from the competition, the 40D is still good enough to recommend without the slightest hesitation.

5 Star ReviewCanon EOS 40D

Posted Oct 24, 2007 - In many ways the Canon EOS 40D seems a bit behind the market, coming late to the 10-megapixel game. But the image quality speaks for itself: Canon was right to wait until they could do it very well. Images captured from ISO 100 to 800 are essentially no-compromise when printed at 13x19 inches. Canon added a lot of new technology along the way, making the Canon 40D's spec sheet seem pretty flashy. But the camera itself is more about capturing great images for its owner than being the latest bit of bling around someone's neck. Its Live View mode doesn't just provide "gee whiz" flash, it actually helps you focus on that 3.0-inch LCD, and the 40D's new electronic first curtain cuts the noise of capture in Live View to half, great for low-impact wildlife photography. From its 6.5-frame-per-second continuous mode speed to its larger buffer and long list of custom functions, the Canon 40D is built with the intermediate to professional photographer in mind. Of course, it'll serve anyone who wants a reliable, well-built camera that will bring home great shots time after time. See our extensive review of the Canon EOS 40D! - Read Full Review

4.5 Star ReviewCanon EOS 40D Review

Posted Sep 22, 2007 - The Canon EOS 40D is a new mid-range digital SLR camera aimed firmly at the keen enthusiast photographer. Successor to the 18-month old 30D model, the Canon 40D offers a large number of significant features that make it an enticing proposition for both current 30D owners and those interested in a more advanced DSLR. There's a 10.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, 6.5fps continuous shooting mode for up to 75 large JPEG or 17 RAW images , large 3 inch LCD screen complete with Live View mode for framing your image from the LCD, and Canon's Integrated Cleaning System (inherited from the entry-level EOS 400D camera). Auto-focusing has been improved on the EOS 40D, with 9 wide-area cross type points, the DIGIC III engine processes images at 14 bits for more accurate colour, and there's an upgraded magnesium alloy body complete with environmental seals. Announced just over a month ago, today we bring you one of the first in-depth reviews of the Canon EOS 40D. - Read Full Review

4.5 Star ReviewCamera Labs – Canon EOS 40D review

Posted Sep 12, 2007 - Canon had to come back fighting with the EOS 40D, and it’s certainly delivered the goods. The new DSLR may resemble its predecessor from the outside, but features worthy upgrades in almost every department. The key specifications of resolution, continuous shooting, autofocus, weatherproofing, screen and viewfinder have all been improved, and there’s now also the addition of Live View, anti-dust features and full remote control using your PC. In short the EOS 40D handles like a dream, feeling tough, very responsive, and confident to handle just about any situation. But the competition hasn’t stood still either – the Nikon D300 and Sony A700 look set to be the 40D’s biggest rivals. Find out how the 40D compares to these and other key DSLRs in our full review and to see this camera in action, check out our video review. - Read Full Review
