4 Star Review good value for price

Strengths:

small, light, compact, easy to use.

Weaknesses:

can't change review time of picture after you take it.

Posted May 12, 2008 - A decent camera for the price. I am used to a Digital SLR, so this was a big change, but I wanted something I could easily toss in the diaper bag and go to the park with and not worry about it getting too banged up like my SLR. A lot of neat features for colors of photos (sepia, blue, b/w, etc) and a large selection of shooting scene modes to make it easy for a beginner.

4 Star Review Nice ultra-compact camera

Strengths:

Size, simplicity, optical stabilization

Weaknesses:

Noise in high-ISO settings, exposure metering with flash

Posted May 12, 2008 - This 8MP camera is small enough to comfortably fit in a shirt pocket. It's quite intuitive to use, and yields very nice pictures under good light conditions. In poor light it's performance isn't that great, though. The image stabilization feature makes taking pictures without a flash a little more feasible, but setting the ISO to 400 already produces significant noise, and any setting above that is practically unusable. Flash photography, as with virtually all small point-and-shoot cameras, leaves a lot to be desired. Other than its low-light performance, it is a very nice camera for its price, and a good choice for someone looking for a reasonably good camera in an ultra-compact form factor.

3 Star Review The Nikon S210 you get what you pay for

Strengths:

Very sleek and thin Good battery capacity Good LCD Good lens for the price Good ISO capablity with little noise up to 400 Great Red Eye fix features Very quick responses

Weaknesses:

Pictures are unfortunately not that great Restrictive Electronic Vibraition Reduction system

Posted May 5, 2008 - This camera is the value leader among the S series in the Nikon line coming in a little more expensive than the L18 model and below S520. In terms of build quality it's very solidly built with metal casing and good tactile feedback on the buttons. It's really a thin camera so you can fit it almost anywhere with ease and as it's very light as well you would have a hard time noticing it there. Unfortunately Nikon decided to cut costs and implement an Electronic Vibration Reduction system instead of their excellent Optical VR on this camera. While this system is much more effective than the simple "Anti-Shake Mode" systems where the camera simply ramps up the ISO while using faster shutter speeds it is definitely inferior to the Optical systems as it has many many restrictions some of which are: eVR will not work if flash fires (Except slow synchro flash) eVR will not work over ISO 800 eVR will not work if Red-Eye Reduction is active This is of course compounded by the fact that the eVR is turned off by default although you can add eVR effect in the review mode if it is possible and shown with an icon. How the system work is rather simple: There is a gyro in the camera body that measure acceleration forces and detects shakes, this sensor then sends the data to the EXPEED image processor which then uses special algorithms to reduce the effect of shake on the final picture and as Nikon puts it "produce beautiful pictures". This is all good but in almost 35 shots I took so far with this camera only 2 qualified for the eVR help. Moving past this, the pictures are generally not that great looking. Metering is very consistant with good white balance detection so consistency is there which is very good for a camera in this price range. EXPEED processor Nikon has put in to this camera is very speedy and makes this camera feel very fast. Overall if you do decide to buy this camera know that you will be sacrificing some functionality for style.

Weaknesses:

Posted 1 year ago - Had the camera for three weeks, the camera acts up with the lens going in and out like its focusing, lens error shows on screen. Sent it to Nikon for waranty repairs, they feed me some crap that the camera was dropped and its not covered under warranty. 160$ Down the drain. NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY A NIKON PIECE OF JUNK! GOOD LUCK IF YOU DO!
