5 Star Review Canon XSI Digital SLR is awesome

Strengths:

Great photo quality, quick action shots, large lcd screen, comfortable grip, and lots of features such as Live view

Weaknesses:

Slow shutter speed when in Live view, awkward position of iso

Posted May 1, 2008 - First of all, this is my first dslr, so I am not a pro, but I just love this camera. The pictures are soo much better than your typical point and shoot camera. You are able to take continuous action shots, and there is hardly any time between shots. There are numerous features that you can control which I still am just learning about, such as the spot metering and white balance adjustment. What is great is the amount of control you want or just set it to auto and the camera does it all. The only weakness I found was that when you are in Live view mode, the camera is very slow. I thought I could use the lcd screen like my point & shoot camera but found that to be too lagging. The Live View would be good for close up shots or if you are trying to shoot something where you can't really get your eye on the camera. All in all, this is the best prosumer camera I think. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to move up to a dslr.

5 Star Review Awesome Camera!

Strengths:

Picture quality (of course), 12 MP, ease-of-use, SDHC card capability, big LCD screen, compact, and relatively light weight.

Weaknesses:

None that I know of yet. I don't foresee any either...

Posted 1 year ago - I'm a family photographer, taking photos of my kids and family. This was rated #1 Digital SLR in C.R. and it is a great camera. I highly recommend this if you want to go with a digital SLR camera.

4 Star Review EOS Rebel XSi Black Digital Camera Kit

Strengths:

Wonderful image quality and great to be able to work with RAW format

Weaknesses:

The live view is only available in manual settings.

Posted 1 year ago - I had a Canon point and shoot that I really loved--I wanted to graduate to a digital SLR and had heard good feedback about the Rebel series. So, far I am satisfied; but need to get more into the manual features to fully use the camera. I was also disappointed that the live view is not available when the camera is set on auto. I am getting used to using the view-finder to compose and focus, it will take some getting used to.

5 Star Review AWESOME CAMERA

Strengths:

Quick, very minimal lag time, compact for a DSLR, Canon quality, good IS lens

Weaknesses:

none

Posted 1 year ago - My wife has been using a Canon Digital Rebel (first model) and I just upgraded her to the XSi. She LOVES it. The difference is amazing: faster response and wake up time, faster shutter and definitely decreased lag time. It is smaller and lighter. Comfortable to use. We have a 18-55 canon lens but I upgraded to the new IS lens and it probably adds a little to the performance (esp lower light situations) but it definitely doesn't slow things down (which I thought might be a concern). Bottom line - EXCELLENT CAMERA even for a semi-pro photographer!

5 Star Review IS kit lense make the difference

Strengths:

Large LCD screen and live view as well as the IS kit lens. Extremely easy to use for first timers.

Weaknesses:

Price.

Posted 1 year ago - This is my first DSLR and just got back from two week honeymoon in Costa Rica and absolutely delighted with its performance. After reviewing the 800+ pics my wife and I have received so many compliments on the image sharpness and vibrant coloring. One recommendation is a UV lens which ended up making a huge difference on outdoor scenic shots.

4 Star Review Definately a great value and a great camera

Strengths:

Excellent value for the dollar and performance. Better than XTI.

Weaknesses:

Standard lens is useless. Need up upgrade to the IS 17-85mm

Posted 1 year ago - This nwer XSI is great value compared to the Nikon camera. Although the XSI comes with a standard IS lens, the lens is slow and doesn't focus well but it's included in the kit now as Image Stablization. If you are serious in taking great pictures, consider upgrading to a Canon IS 17-85mm lens. The XSI adds many new features including a longer battery life, and it's a lot better in taking clearer pictures in darker light, ISO bottom on the top compared to the XTI. Though the XTI did have a metal body, this XSI has a plastic body and the "on" led is not replaced by an ISO button. It was really worth upgrading for me in terms of image quality and speed. I don't recommend you buy the kit unless you get an awesome deal. I recommend the body with a Canon IS 17-85mm lens upgrade. It's all worth the price. Get a few extra batteries as well. I haven't found a need to buy a Flash unit since the newer XSI built in flash is more than good enough for my pictures. People have said the Nikon models are better but I found doesn't work and feel high quality. I wish they had a video mode but I guess the price would be higher then.

5 Star Review New to Digital SLR? Get this camera! you won't get wrong

Strengths:

Very user friendly user interface, LiveView enable point and shoot like experience for novice photographer. Great picture quality. The IS kits lens work great!

Weaknesses:

When the IS is operating the high freq noise is some what annoying. But being say that you can only hear it in a very quite studio enviroment

Posted 1 year ago - This is my first SLR. Been using Canon XT of my friend in the past. I decided to get my own, with my first paycheck. There is a lot of pro review out there about this SLR. So I am just going to share my personal feel about this camera, for the rest of detail information you can just google for it. I am total happy with this camera. It is much more advance then the Canon XT, great features, great picture quality and I just enjoy shooting with it. BTW the sensor is very low noise despite at 12M pixel density. The picture get even better when you hook it up with a 50mm prime lens.

5 Star Review Rebel XSi - another top notch product from Canon

Strengths:

12.2 megapixels, IS lens, live view, 3" display, light weight body

Weaknesses:

maximum ISO setting of 1600, faster burst mode would be nice and a larger buffer for raw capture

Posted 1 year ago - I have always felt Canon makes the best cameras. This one does not disappoint. Many additional features (compared to the Xti). Takes excellent low noise pictures, even at higher ISOs. I especially like the fact that my older lenses from my Canon 35 MM film camera work with it as well. For a first DSLR, this is one camera that has enough features borrowed from the higher end 40D that will allow the beginning photographer to grow into it.

5 Star Review Packed with performance and appealing features

Strengths:

12.2-megapixel, a live view LCD, improved autofocus, new dynamic-range controls.

Weaknesses:

None

Posted May 2, 2008 - The new XSI has everyhing you can dream of! The best feature I like: XSi's 230,000 pixel, 3-inch LCD can be set to function in Live Mode, which permits the camera to autofocus while using the LCD as a viewfinder, without lowering the optical viewfinder reflex mirror! Perfect for macro pictures taken with a tripod. Unlike previous Rebel models, the XSi camera saves image files on SD and SDHC memory cards, which is good as SD cards are much more popular and cheaper nowadays.

5 Star Review LIve view, need i say more?

Strengths:

LIve view, need i say more?

Weaknesses:

You have to buy a new memory car, and extra batteries if upgrading from the xti.

Posted May 2, 2008 - Light weight camera body and a really cute shutter sound when you take a pic. It is a lot easier on the hands for long term use. I have an xti and am really glad i got a good deal on a upgrade. user friendly and the large lcd screen on the back of the camera is GREAT. You need to read direstions on how to use and find live view. remember: You have to buy a new memory car, and extra batteries if upgrading from the xti.

4 Star Review XSi

Strengths:

- better ergonomy than 350D and 450D, - good image quality, - possibility to change ISO settings in viewfinder, - 3-inches LCD, - good autofocus

Weaknesses:

- ISO 3200 absence, - Menu key in uncomfortable place.

Posted 1 year ago - I've used Canon EOS Xt (350D) earlier. 450D is better younger brother of this camera. I'm contented of my XSi beacause I have good quality of photos for a quite good money. Photography is my biggest passion and in future I want to buy more advanced Canon camera, for example EOS 50D. Effects of my work with Canon (and Panasonic earlier) on: www.rafalgdak.pl

3 Star Review Nikon, Please take me back, I am sorry I went to Canon XSI

Strengths:

Good feel on the camera but that is it.

Weaknesses:

material used on camera is very easily scratch. specially around the pop up flash. 2.-image quality in auto mode is terrible, my dinosaur sony dsc10 camera takes more cleaner sharper pictures.

Posted 1 year ago - I have sinned by selling my nikon d50, and crossing over to Canon. I should have never sold my d50. anyways, first of all, I love this web site and I'm gonna to support it by telling all my friends about it. thank you dcresource. about the xsi, stay away from it. for the money, at least you should be able to take clear and sharp images in auto mode but it never did for me. although i am a novice user who understands the mechanics and methodology of photography, no matter what i did (using tripod) the images were disappointing. However, in manual mode and couple of tweaks here and there, the camera worked well but remember for the price, my old d50 took superb pictures in auto mode. i ordered a d80 and returning the xsi because i am coming back to nikon. this will never happen. i will always love nikon cameras. thanks again DC!!

3 Star Review Great camera with good kit lens

Strengths:

kit lens is better than before, 3 inch lcd, live view

Weaknesses:

not worth 300 more to upgrade from xti

Posted May 2, 2008 - bought this for my wife, but she thinks it's not worth the extra 300 to upgrade from xti. It has better pixel which doesn't matter anyway. Live view helps a little but not whole lot. The kie lens is way better than the xti kit lens. Should have waited for sometime till the price come down a little bit.
