Nikon, Please take me back, I am sorry I went to Canon XSI

Started 1 year ago

Strengths: Good feel on the camera but that is it.

Weaknesses: material used on camera is very easily scratch. specially around the pop up flash. 2.-image quality in auto mode is terrible, my dinosaur sony dsc10 camera takes more cleaner sharper pictures.

I have sinned by selling my nikon d50, and crossing over to Canon. I should have never sold my d50. anyways, first of all, I love this web site and I'm gonna to support it by telling all my friends about it. thank you dcresource. about the xsi, stay away from it. for the money, at least you should be able to take clear and sharp images in auto mode but it never did for me. although i am a novice user who understands the mechanics and methodology of photography, no matter what i did (using tripod) the images were disappointing. However, in manual mode and couple of tweaks here and there, the camera worked well but remember for the price, my old d50 took superb pictures in auto mode. i ordered a d80 and returning the xsi because i am coming back to nikon. this will never happen. i will always love nikon cameras. thanks again DC!!

I had a Cannon AE1P for many years and then someone stole it out of my truck. I have not replaced it yet and want to go with the XSi. Thanks for the positive feed on your experience.

The AE1P did a great job both closeup and distant shots. Never a problem until the Thief needed drugs and took it. He took me for almost 3K in equipment. I wanted to cry.

This is something that kind of annoys me about people who buy a DSLR. Although I am a novice in the DSLR world (never took classes, have only read books and played with the settings) the whole point is to bring the camera out of the Auto mode and work with the other more manual settings. Go with a canon G10 if you want something that takes great Auto pictures (and it also has a manual mode just in case). Otherwise, start getting out of the Auto settings and start experiencing a great camera! You’ll get the hang of it. In the beginning it’s difficult to guess the settings but after some time you’ll pick up the pace and become faster. Having a DSLR and only using it in manual mode is like having a Ferrari and never going about 35mph.
