The Rebel XSi showcases many new technologies, currently besting the semi-pro camera in the line in several areas. Its 12.2 megapixel sensor exceeds the resolution of the EOS 40D, the new Live View mode uses phase-detect and contrast-detect autofocus modes, and the Rebel XSi's kit bundle comes with a good quality image-stabilized lens. The Canon XSi's redesigned body is simple and handsome, and the grip has a little more room for medium-sized hands. Posted 1 year ago - The Canon EOS Rebel XSi is a very good entry-level digital SLR. It offers very good photo quality (with the appropriate tweaks), lighting fast performance, live view, and a large LCD display. The camera has its share of flaws, though, including soft JPEGs at default settings, redeye, sluggish contrast detect autofocus, and a rather high price. Still, the Rebel XSi is a solid choice for those looking for their first SLR, and thus, it earns my recommendation.

Posted Jun 1, 2008 - The Canon Digital Rebel XSi is an update to last year's XTi that ups the resolution to 12.2 megapixels and adds a handful of other new features, including a bigger 3-inch screen, an improved autofocus system, and optical image stabilization in the kit lens. It's also the first Digital Rebel to feature the now commonplace Live View mode, which provides a point-and-shoot-esque live view of the subject on the LCD screen before shooting. But none of these updates are earth-shattering, and the XSi proves to be an evolution rather than a revolution. And it faces stiff competition from a bevy of new SLRs such as the Nikon D60 and the Olympus E-420. However, it is still a strong competitior, and the updates Canon has made under the hood seem to be paying off: image quality is improved over the XTi, with great color and plenty of detail. Posted May 28, 2008 - The Canon EOS 450D (also known as the Rebel Xsi) is the latest addition to Canon’s entry-level range of digital SLR cameras, which first debuted over 4 years ago with the original EOS 300D model. Times have rapidly changed since that landmark product, with a large number of competitive DSLR cameras from the likes of Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Pentax, and Samsung now available. Canon have hit back with the EOS 450D by taking its predecessor, the 400D, and adding a handful of standout new features, including Live View mode, an increase from 10 to 12 megapixels (which is more than the mid-range EOS 40D model), a larger 3 inch LCD screen, spot metering and SD cards instead of CompactFlash. A few features have also filtered down from the EOS 40D, most notably 14-bit processing for more accurate colour, and Canon are at last supplying an image stabilised kit lens with the 450D.
