5 Star Review GREAT CAMERA

Strengths:

High resolution pictures, even good videos-(If on high qaulity)

Weaknesses:

None that I've seen

Posted Jan 4, 2006 - This camera is great for the price, and in general. It takes awesome pictures so long as you put it on the right settings for the right situations. With a large selection of modes, I'ts something I'd recommend to almost anyone.

4 Star Review GOOD Camera

Strengths:

7.1-megapixel 5 movie modes Automatic face focus

Weaknesses:

N/A

Posted Feb 17, 2006 - The camera is great for its price, especially compared to the price of Canon's and Sony's. The quality is just as good as Canon's and their is just as likely a chance of blurry pictures if the flash isn't on. For travel reasons I like the AA batteries though rechargeables AA last 2-3 times longer than alkaline and are more cost efficient. I recently went to Europe and those of us with cameras that took AAs had an easier time than those that had the battery packs. I am very pleased with the camera, though I am still trying to determine which scenes work best in which lighting situations...but this would be true of any camera. The picture quality is really good. It could be better but I haven't seen a camera that takes a better quality photo. The picture quality is the weakest in darker environments, especiaally if you do not use flash. I've only used the 5MP setting so far so I imagine the 7MP setting would be even better. I wish point and shoot cameras came with speed settings that were equivalent to those you can purchase for 35mm cameras (200, 400, 800), which would help with the picture quality. The zooming capabilities are very nice, as is the AF feature (auto-focus).

5 Star Review Very nice.

Strengths:

Excellent quality photos. Very small and lightweight. Video recording capability. Easy to use.

Weaknesses:

A little **too** automatic - would like to be able to adjust a few settings manually. A little slow between flash shots. Battery life is decent - not outstanding, but not bad.

Posted Jul 19, 2005 - Respectfully, the previous reviewer's rating of 1 is VERY unfair to this camera. Many of the weaknesses listed are not the fault of the camera, but more of the end user's lack of knowledge about how storage media and batteries work: 1. If you use a high speed SD card your wait between shots is decreased. 2. Battery life is VERY dependent on the quality of your batteries. I recommend Sanyo rechargable NiMH (2600 maH). Strong and well charged batteries can also decrease your wait between shots. Those items aside, I am quite pleased with the overall quality and features. The ability to shoot video is SO handy! Overall, colors are well reproduced. Some reviews have complained about images from this camera looking "soft." Actually, this camera does NO internal sharpening. Personally, I find this a PLUS because I'd rather sharpen myself in my photo editing software instead of having a camera apply a set (and irreversible) amount of sharpening. The only real weaknesses are the lack of a RAW or uncompressed image format, but the JPEG quality at high setting looks quite impressive. As well, many settings are made by the camera and can't be changed by the user (such as a true manual focus), but the scene modes and range of features and settings you CAN change allow you to produce some very nice photos. Lastly, the autofocus seems to work very well in most all situations. However, when taking flash pictures there is a delay of about 3-4 seconds between shots. However, the camera does have a continuous shot mode which works well. For the money (can be bought online for as low as $275 now), this camera is a fantastic deal. It's so small and lightweight, but still comfortable to hold. Personally I wish it was slightly larger to make shooting videos a little more steady, but it has a built in video stabilizer that does a good job of reducing jitter. If you want more manual control and a few more features you can step up to the Coolpix 7900. There are too many features to list here, but in this price range this is one of the best cameras (maybe THE best) you can buy and the average user should be extremely pleased. I'd probably rate this 4 stars overall, but I'm going to rate it 5 to help offset that undeserved rating of 1 star by the previous reviewer.

4 Star Review A good camera

Strengths:

Small, lightweight, but still easy to hold onto with one handed shots. Takes clear, colorfull and bright shots.

Weaknesses:

Sometimes the dial to switch modes will turn on its on while in a camera case.

Posted Aug 23, 2005 - I had the camera for a short time before it was stolen. But in the couple of months that I had it, I took some GREAT shots. The camera went with me to DisneyLand and I was able to get some very nice pictures of the floral arrangements all around with the colors coming out bright and beautiful. I did have it in a small camera holding case for carrying and the dial would turn to video or halfway between choices and then I could not take a picture until I noticed the setting change. But other than that, the shutter speed seemed fine for some of the actions shots that I was able to take. The battery life seemed about average. The camera I had prior to this took 4 double A batteries, so taking only 2 made a difference in the weight of the camera, that was nice. I would highly recommend this camera and am planning to buy another one to replace the one that was stolen once I get the check from the insurance company.

5 Star Review Awesome camera

Strengths:

Small size, crisp pix, D-lighting feature

Weaknesses:

N/A

Posted Aug 20, 2005 - I spent a few days researching the 7 mp cameras on the market, and I narrowed it down to this vs the canon powershot SD500. I chose the Nikon because of a)it's reasonable price ($278) b)cutting edge technology (D-lighting) and c)small yet charming body style. I am amazed by the high quality pix. I had a Kodak easyshare DX4530 before this camera, which I started loathing because of its weak flash. However, when the toggle button stopped working 3 months after the warranty expired, I decided never to go with Kodak again. The few experiences I've had with the Nikon were positive, so I would definitely recommend this camera to everyone. I'll find out if this one also breaks down 3 months after its 1 year warranty is up.

2 Star Review did not meet my expectation

Strengths:

lots of features,low price

Weaknesses:

poor image quality in low light, long wait between shots

Posted Nov 18, 2005 - I bought this camera to replaced my lost 5MP Canon camera. This camera is thick (1.5")and does not feel comfortable in my shirt pocket. The camera uses 2 AA bateries. Oddly, you can set the types of batery used(Lithium, alkaline or Ni rechargeale) to maximum the life of the battery. It used up the battery after 30 shots with the battery provided with the camera. I replace 2 new Energizer batteries, which ran out after about 70 shots. The LCD screen is tiny, only 1.8". There is a long shutter delay. After pushing the shutter button, I have to hold the camera still for a couple of second to make sure that the picture is taken. Otherwise the picture will come out blurry. This takes all the fun out of shooting. The AF does not work well in low light and indoor condition. Outdoor image quality is good. The red eye reduction works well when the camera can focus. After used up 6 AA batteries on this camera, I returned the camera and paid 10% restocking fee.

4 Star Review A good camera for the price

Strengths:

Compact size, light weight, reasonably good pictures

Weaknesses:

Slow!

Posted Oct 11, 2005 - My earlier camera was Nikon 4100. When I decided to upgrade, I went for Nikon again. A few things that I really like about this camera are: 1. it uses AA batteries which are available every where and are very cheap. 2. It has the "Date Imprint" function which can imprint date and time on the picture right when it is taken. I love this as when I look at a print, I know when it was taken (I take a lot of pictures of my little son. While looking at an album of printed pictures, I can tell how fast he is growing up). Picture quality is pretty decent for a compact point and shoot camera. Only thing I hate about this camera is the slow speed. After a picture is taken (especially when using flash), camera takes like eternity to get ready for the next shot. My 4100 was also slow but I expected that since 7600 is newer model, it should be improved but unfortunately not so. The SD card I am using is not an ultra II card. May be if I put an ultra II card, it will improve. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my purchase.

Strengths:

At 275$ this camera was a great buy! smaller than the other coolpix series.

Weaknesses:

Very Slow, Takes hours to get ready after you take picture, drains our AA Size batter in 20-30 pictures, Pictures are not very good and the menu option is confusing and slow!

Posted Jul 4, 2005 - I am already using Nikon Coolpix 4300 and am quite satisfied with it. So when i wanted to upgrade to a newer camera, I straight away purchased Nikon 7600 without even looking at other camera and that is the biggest mistake i have made. To start with the camera is very slow! After taking a picture, it took like 10 sec. to get ready to take another shot! I can get a pritout by then in other camera! Then the picture output is very poor. For 7 Mgp the results are not even close to 5 Mgp of other camera and the results are not desireable. The camera came with 1 pair of pencil size AA battery whcih got over within 1 Hour of use where i took some 25-35 pictures. I bought another set and that too got drained out pretty fast! There are many other issues which makes this camera not very desireable. Infact I'm returning this camera back to the site from where i have purchased with 10% deduction so that I can buy other camera!

Strengths:

Flash works great

Weaknesses:

very slow, and picture quality is terrible

Posted Nov 9, 2005 - a had exchanged a kodak 6.1mp easyshare camersa for this one, becuase the flash on the easyshare was acting up, and the nikon had 7.1mp and it was smaller and lighter. What a mistake that was. The photos are suppose to be 7.1mp but they don't even look as good as a 3mp. I am going to exchange it again, probably for the same easyshare camera. Although it was a little bigger and the flash was acting up, the photos were much more superb than this coolpix. I am totally dissapointed in this coolpix.
