4.5 Star ReviewDCRP Review: Canon PowerShot G11

Posted 2 weeks ago - Canon did something very unusual in the world of consumer electronics: instead of raising the resolution on their newest camera, the PowerShot G11, they actually went in the other direction -- by nearly 5 million pixels. While less-informed shoppers may be put off by the fact that the best Canon compact is "only" 10 Megapixel, the truth is that the resolution is more than enough for almost everyone, and the improvement in image quality is well worth the "sacrifice". The G11's superb image quality combined with its performance, rotating high resolution LCD, manual controls, and expandability make it a top choice for those looking for a full-featured compact camera. - Read Full Review

5 Star ReviewBest Canon Digital Compact Camera

Posted 2 weeks ago - Bestcovery's experts have ranked this the #1 Best Canon Digital Compact Camera, #1 Best Digital Compact Camera for Advanced Photographers, and #1 Best 10MP - 13MP Digital Camera. Canon’s PowerShot G11 is the newest member of the esteemed Canon G-series. While the G10 was considered by some to be one step forward and two steps back, the G11 is definitely a large step forward. New additions include a swivel LCD screen viewfinder, film speed improvements, and a better auto-mode. A significant difference between the two cameras is that the G11 has a 10 megapixel sensor whereas the G10 has a 14.7 megapixel sensor. This decrease in resolution might seem like a negative to many, but the truth is that lens quality, dynamic range, image noise, and high ISO performance are just as important of factors in determining image quality. The new 10MP sensor delivers superior high ISO performance with very low noise and excellent detail, and the Canon Powershot G11 has excellent image quality overall. While the G10 was a great camera, many complained about its low-light performance. The G11 has made great strides in decreasing noise in low light shots and produces superior images to the G10, largely due to its new sensor and better high ISO performance. The wide-angle (28mm) 5x optical zoom lens is very high quality as well and equipped with an optical image stabilization system to reduce blur. The G11 is designed for advanced photographers and offers a full range of manual modes, as well as support for shooting in RAW. However, the camera is also easy to use and the auto mode does an excellent job choosing optimal settings in most situations. This camera is a step above the rest and the best compact digital camera for advanced photographers. In fact, many have considered the G11 to be the midpoint between point and shoot cameras and DSLRs, and that is a fair assessment. The G11 combines excellent image quality on par with many lower-level DSLRs with the size and ease of use of a point and shoot camera. If you want to take excellent photos but don’t want the bulk associated with a DSLR, the Canon G11 is the ideal choice. - Read Full Review

4.5 Star ReviewCanon PowerShot G11 Review

Posted 2 weeks ago - Giving ear to your most ardent supporters is always a good idea when planning new products, and that's just what Canon did with the Canon PowerShot G11. That change in focus brought back the articulating LCD that was sorely missed by many G-series fans. Canon also took a bold step and reduced the resolution from 14-megapixels to 10, all in an effort to make the Canon G11 a better low-light camera rather than an unnecessarily high-resolution design that struggled to strike a balance between noise and its suppression. Our printed results show that Canon succeeded in reducing chroma (color) noise in the Canon G11's images well enough to produce images of about the same size, but with less noise and less blurring from noise suppression overall. Lens quality is still quite excellent, with minimal chromatic aberration and excellent sharpness in the corners, also likely a result of the switch to a 10-megapixel sensor. The Canon G11 is a joy to use, with its manual EV compensation and ISO dials, articulating LCD, and extremely capable design. 4.5 Star ReviewCamera Labs – Canon PowerShot G11 review

Posted 3 weeks ago - The PowerShot G11 essentially takes the earlier G10, adds a handful of new features and reinstates some from earlier classics. In the former camp, the G11 now features scene detection, new Low Light and Quick Shot modes, along with an HDMI port, while in the latter category we can finally welcome back a flip-out screen, not seen since the G6 back in 2004. The headline feature though is its low light capability with Canon taking a sensible reverse-turn on its earlier obsession with Megapixels. It works too, with the G11’s lower resolution allowing it to perform better than its predecessor, while boasting a top sensitivity of 12,800 ISO at a reduced resolution. But unlike previous years the G11 is now up against two new compacts with DSLR sensors, the Olympus E-P1 and Panasonic GF1. In our full review of the G11 at Camera Labs we compare the image quality of all three and see if it’s worth spending the extra or sticking with an old enthusiast’s favourite. If you’re after a high-end compact, you’ll want to check it out! - Read Full Review

4.5 Star ReviewCanon PowerShot G11 Review

Posted 1 month ago - The PowerShot G11 is the latest version of Canon's compact camera range for prosumers and professionals, offering a DSLR experience in a pocketable body. Interestingly Canon have reduced the number of megapixels on the G11 in a bid to improve image quality at higher ISO speeds, and they've responded to customer feedback by re-introducing the vari-angle LCD that was missing on the previous G10 model. With a price-tag of £569.00 / €659.00 / $499.99, the Canon PowerShot G11 is one of the most expensive digital compact cameras that money can buy - Gavin Stoker finds out if it's also one of the best... - Read Full Review
