3.5 Star ReviewCanon EOS 50D (body only)

Posted 1 year ago - THE GOOD: Excellent performance and photo quality; solid, comfortable shooting design. THE BAD: Relatively basic feature set for its class. THE BOTTOM LINE: A very good midrange dSLR, the Canon EOS 50D is a compelling--but not necessarily a must-have--choice for Canon upgraders. - Read Full Review

4 Star ReviewBest Digital SLR (dSLR) for Advanced Photographers and Semi-Professionals

Posted 1 year ago - Bestcovery's experts have ranked this the #5 Best Digital SLR (dSLR) for Advanced Photographers and Semi-Professionals and #5 Best Digital SLR Camera Overall. The Canon EOS 50D is a well-built, magnesium body DSLR that exhibits the usual excellent standards and quality Canon has been known for. From the 30D to the 40D and now to the 50D, Canon has been making improvements to ergonomics and handling. The 50D’s controls are well placed and the layout of buttons and menu items make it very easy to get a handle on the various options and controls available. Performance-wise, the 50D is quite impressive. It has a very short powering on time that feels almost instant and its DIGIC IV image processor quickly handles the large files created from its 15 megapixel CCD sensor. Similar to many cameras in this price range and below, the 50D has a hard time dealing with noise at ISO settings above 1600. However, at lower ISO settings, image quality is very good with great detail and clarity. The Canon 50D definitely is a great camera, but if you already own a Canon 40D, the 50D’s improvements may not warrant an upgrade considering how much more expensive it is. - Read Full Review

5 Star ReviewCanon EOS 50D review

Posted 1 year ago - Through a consistent and natural colour reproduction, a convincing dynamic range, excellent frame rate, fine applicable ISO range, excellent reproduction and user-friendly operation, Canon shows what the Canon EOS 50D stands for. It is an all-round DSLR camera for the enhanced hobby photographer who can deal with any branch of photography with this camera. It’s a convincing performance of an unexpectedly introduced EOS D-SLR that will no doubt set the raise the alertness of the competition on alert. The Canon EOS 50D is absolutely a favourite, and worth every penny of its higher price compared to the EOS 40D. - Read Full Review

5 Star ReviewCanon EOS 50D Review

Posted 1 year ago - Many features stand out to make the Canon EOS 50D a great digital SLR camera. What will really catch and hold users is the impressive image quality they'll get from the Canon 50D across the standard ISO range of 100 to 3,200. The Canon 50D's new gapless microlenses allow greater light gathering ability, making for surprisingly detailed images, even at ISO 800 and 1,600. The Canon 50D's 14-bit analog-to-digital conversion doesn't slow the frame rate down, either, as the camera clicks along at 6.3 frames per second. UDMA support gives the Canon 50D the ability to write to the card at 45MB per second, with support for future cards that will allow writing at up to 133MB per second, making followup shots with the 50D quite fast. The addition of face detection gives the Canon 50D the most complete set of Live View features in an EOS camera, and other operational enhancements make the Canon 50D both easy to work with and provide more depth to explore than ever before. Canon offers more than one kit lens with the 50D, and one is definitely better than the other. Click to read our full review of the Canon EOS 50D for more! - Read Full Review

5 Star ReviewCanon EOS 50D Digital Camera Review

Posted 1 year ago - The 15-megapixel EOS 50D is Canon's newest mid-range SLR. Available for $1399 for the body alone, or packaged with a variety of kit lenses, it's the successor to 2007's 40D. After putting the 50D through a rigorous body of tests (undertaken using the 28-135mm lens, part of a $1600 kit set), we came out with an impression of it being a solid, dependable camera, but without any amazing new features. The improved Live View functionality is a pleasant addition, as is the new, 920,000 pixel LCD screen, and the bump up to 15 megapixels. However, the 50D didn't blow us away in any of our tests, instead maintaining a universally average result. The 50D showed itself to be a solid, incremental upgrade in the mid-level Canon cameras. - Read Full Review

4.5 Star ReviewCamera Labs – Canon EOS 50D review

Posted 1 year ago - The Canon EOS 50D is a feature-packed semi-pro DSLR which takes the already capable 40D, increases the resolution to 15.1 Megapixels, quadruples the sensitivity to 12800 ISO, and packs in all the latest features – bar a movie mode. It becomes the first Canon DSLR with a VGA screen, HDMI port and in-camera correction of lens vignetting; there’s even the AF micro-adjust feature inherited from Canon’s pro range of DSLRs. The Live View system has additionally been updated with face detection and the camera still comes with full remote control software for PCs or Macs. It’s an impressive specification and the handling’s great, but the big question is whether Canon’s managed to increase the resolution without compromising noise levels. Find out in our full review at Cameralabs where we’ve directly compared the 50D against its key rivals including the EOS 40D and Nikon D90 – and to see the camera demonstrated in practice, check out our video tour. - Read Full Review

4.5 Star ReviewCanon EOS 50D Review

Posted 1 year ago - Announced just one year after the 40D, the new EOS 50D is Canon's latest semi-pro DSLR camera. With a price-tag just over £1200 / $1399 body only, the Canon 50D is firmly aimed at the prosumer, who will use it as their main camera, and the pro photographer looking for a reliable and relatively inexpensive backup body. The main headline-grabbing feature is the 15.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, which makes the 50D the market-leading APS-C camera in terms of megapixel count. Canon have also massively expanded the ISO range, with a top speed of 12800 matching the more expensive Nikon D700 / D3 cameras, while the new Digic 4 processor promises to maintain the usual high image quality that we've come to expect from a Canon DSLR. A high-resolution VGA LCD screen, new Live View mode with Face Detection, HDMI connectivity and a number of user interface refinements complete the list of major improvements. Is the Canon EOS 50D a worthy upgrade to the 40D and a real competitor to its closest rival, the Nikon D300? - Read Full Review
